That’s so sad.Sad

I channel her nearly every day going round saying: “I’m sooo cold!”

RIP.

LondonWFuck · 10/04/2021 19:06

By which I mean the poster who came on here whose Google is apparently broken. MN needs an edit button. I'm too pissed off to formulate posts properly sorry.

Bagamoyo1 · 10/04/2021 19:07

What breaks my heart is that the amount of public money that will be spent on a lavish send off for a 99 year old royal would probably have saved Nikki and many like her. Sorry to make it political but cases like this always make me reflect on the priorities of spending.

LolaSmiles · 10/04/2021 19:07

She was on Big Brother in 2006 and is a good example of how attitudes have changed towards mental health and eating disorders. It was very clear she had issues - she was prone to screaming fits and meltdowns, but everyone and particularly the press thought it was hilarious entertainment. If it happened today, there would be great concern for her mental state and discussion on whether she should be on the show in the first place
I was thinking something similar. At the time I found it entertaining but when you look back at the early BB years there were people on there who probably shouldn't have been.

I think it was someone who'd been linked to BB or celeb BB who commented about the lack of support for contestants and how it was a whirlwind with very little consideration about mental health. I wish I could remember who it was now.

Slub · 10/04/2021 19:08

Only was a couple of weeks ago her mum was on This Morning talking about how they'd managed to raise money for specialist treatment and I was hoping Nikki would get the help she needed to get well again.
Very sad news.
RIP Nikki 💐

AbsentmindedWoman · 10/04/2021 19:08

I never watched Big Brother but even I know who Nikki is (and her famous "who is she?!" catchphrase) because my friends watched it so I had exposure. I

t's really uncomfortable seeing clips of Nikki having those meltdowns from BB now - I dunno, she just seems to be so unstable and immature, yet it was passed off as humour.

It's part of the shocking and brutal way young celebrity women were treated back in the noughties, I think. Reactions like Nikki's were considered part of an amusing personality that captured an audience, just harmless entertainment.

EmeraldShamrock · 10/04/2021 19:09

Anorexia is one of the biggest killers as a MH disorder.
It is rarely about losing weight it takes a serious level of exercise before you become weak.
The level of control over your body is powerful when everything else is out of control.
As a recovered anorexic like recovering addicts it's one day at a time you need to focus daily.
I've no doubt lockdown played a part but I'd think her problems came long before the pandemic.

itsgettingwierd · 10/04/2021 19:09

Just saw this and looked for thread.

So sad. Poor woman had a troubled life with her anorexia.

Her mum said on This Morning a while ago she'd had a relapse because gyms were closed and she was a fraid to eat if she couldn't exercise.

Laytwir024 · 10/04/2021 19:09

I really hope it brings awareness to the many people suffering from eating disorders. Social media has a lot to answer for. It makes me so angry.

bunniesanddaisies · 10/04/2021 19:10

It’s absolutely tragic. She did actually have quite a lot of help, though. I don’t think anything would have prevented it killing her, unfortunately.

ItsMeMarg · 10/04/2021 19:10

@Bagamoyo1 that's just not true. The funeral isn't a lavish state one and is being attended by 30 people. He is a member of the royal family so of COURSE the funeral must reflect that - a lot of the cost comes from the security required. But it was made clear that there was to be no extravaganza during these times especially so really, your comment is not factual

littlepattilou · 10/04/2021 19:10

@pippitysqueakity

Anyone remember Lena Zavaroni? Many years ago, similar life. Battled endlessly, died anyway. Anorexia is an killer. So sad.
Oh gosh yes! Lena was SO talented. A real belter of a voice. I was gutted when she died. She was around 10 when she won Opportunity Knocks, and I was about 6 or 7. I loved her, and even though I was very young when she won, I remember her on there, very vividly. She died in her mid 30s...

Then there was Karen Carpenter of course... Again, only in her early 30s.. Again, anorexia. So, so sad.... Sad

DateLoaf · 10/04/2021 19:11

Oh bless her.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 10/04/2021 19:11

Absolutely awful.

Living alone and no gyms open. Another coronavirus victim even though she died of anorexia.

TheGumption · 10/04/2021 19:12

Oh gosh aren't you so superior, not knowing who she is 🙄
I feel so sad for her and her family. I know she struggled with this for so, so long. It's desperately sad that treatment never worked long term for her.

Hmm Seriously?!
bunniesanddaisies · 10/04/2021 19:12

I don’t think any amount of money would have saved the poor woman, to be honest.

Her poor mum and sister Sad

Sarahtrue11 · 10/04/2021 19:13

I read Nikki's book. Very sad.

Anorexia is such an awful thing.

littlepattilou · 10/04/2021 19:14

@corcaithecat

I’m sorry to hear that some poor young woman has succumbed to Anorexia and died, but I haven’t a clue who she is, even after googling?
Don't worry, no-one cares that you don't know who she is.
corcaithecat · 10/04/2021 19:15

@pippitysqueakity @Crunchymum

Yes, I remember Lena Zavaroni because she was my era and presumably those condemning me for not having a clue who Nikki is have all heard of Lena Zavaroni, no?

I’ve never watched Big Brother or that Jungle programme because I think they are just horrible programmes that are not at all entertaining.

I’m sure they actively choose vulnerable people who are easily exploited because they crave attention, for whatever reason. Hopefully, in a few years time, we’ll have moved on from this type of entertainment just like we have moved on from the Carry On films.

bunniesanddaisies · 10/04/2021 19:16

corcaithecat

She was on Big Brother in 2006.

The Wikipedia page says ‘ Nicola Rachel-Beth Grahame (28 April 1982 – 9 April 2021) was an English television personality, model and author. She was a contestant on the seventh series of Big Brother UK in 2006, in which she finished in fifth place, and later went on to star in her own reality series, Princess Nikki.’

ElsasFrozenVerucca · 10/04/2021 19:18

That's really sad, I always really felt for her. You could see it did impact on her behaviour in BB though, she reminded me of other young woman I've met who had those kind of issues and were always seen as 'girls' not women IYSWIM. Like their mental illness, eating disorder or whatever other issues kept them permanently in an adolescent like state. I don't know what we can do to help women with these issues though, because in one way her time being a well known celebrity may have exacerbated her condition and made her vulnerable, but at the same time it might have given her joy and positive experiences and prolonged her life compared to struggling with an eating disorder without another purpose. It's so hard to know.

MrsSnitchnose · 10/04/2021 19:20

Aww bless her. I was really hoping she was going to get well Sad

MagentaRocks · 10/04/2021 19:21

She was 7 when she first started having problems with eating. She had a lot of help over the years, or at least attempts at help but nothing took for her. I have a friend who asked her GP for help because of her anorexia and was told that until she was on a drip there wasn’t anything they can do. Totally shocking.

AbsentmindedWoman · 10/04/2021 19:22

Eating disorders are fucking ruthless.

Does anyone know, did Nikki ever have a period of respite from it at all during her life? I see on this thread she had written books about her struggle - at that point, was she hopeful she was in recovery?

I say this as someone in recovery myself for many years, very thankful, but always aware of how lucky I am - there but for the grace of God go I.
