such sad news.

Nuitsdesetoiles · 10/04/2021 18:39

This is so very sad. Sad eating disorders have rocketed in lock down, I've seen it clinically first hand. Just got someone I was working with to the level of being able to buy their own ingredients and meal plan with support in the shops then bang, only singles allowed in shops and all the hard work unravelled.

80% increase in referrals for ed and calls to beat Helpline the ed charity. Anorexia thrives in isolation. RIP Nikki I hope you find peace.

Pearbear · 10/04/2021 18:40

Such sad news, I hope she she finds her peace now.

The photo of her on the fundraising page was heartbreaking to see.

Bluntness100 · 10/04/2021 18:40

I also feel really sad about this she was so young.

Looking at the images taken of her for the go fund me campaign I habe to say sadly I don’t think her body could have survived that, she was dreadfully, dreadfully, dreadfully ill.

The whole thing is very sad indeed.

@LittleDoritt

The NHS provision to battle anorexia is disgraceful in this country. It's devastating that she didn't get the help she needed. I know her family's pain all too well. My sister was refused NHS help as she had a BMI of 16.6 which wasn't considered low enough for anorexia treatment. She died of multiple organ failure brought on by anorexia, just a bit younger than Nikki, and the hospital refused to apologise in any way for failing her so badly.
That's terrible. I'm so sorry for your loss.
GabsAlot · 10/04/2021 18:41

very sad i always felt she shouldnt be on tv on bb in particular it did nothing for her mental health

but i guess you cant stop an adult doing what she wanted rip

ChristmasSexyTime · 10/04/2021 18:41

Oh bless her.

Hers was the last series of BB I watched. It all went a bit bananas after that. Such a memorable character. Covid19 has had so many impacts to people with mental and physical health problems. Heartbreaking.

corcaithecat · 10/04/2021 18:42

I’m sorry to hear that some poor young woman has succumbed to Anorexia and died, but I haven’t a clue who she is, even after googling?

I bet it is purely down to funding..Or rather, lack of. Long term treatment is needed, residential care and masses of therapy &c.

So sorry for the loss of your sister.

Watchingthetelly · 10/04/2021 18:43

She was such a fabulous character. I’m really sad to hear that.

EmeraldShamrock · 10/04/2021 18:43

What a tragic death.

megletthesecond · 10/04/2021 18:43

She was so funny on BB. Poor woman.

I'd seen they were fundraising for further treatment for her. Eating disorders are wretched things.

Bigfatpicnic · 10/04/2021 18:45

@Sarahtrue11

AW so sad. How old was she
38 I believe
Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 10/04/2021 18:45

Her mum was on This Morning last week and said that the gyms closing because of Covid really contributed to her spiralling out of control, because not being able to exercise as she normally did made her eating much harder to manage. I think a lot of people (probably myself included being absolutely honest) were a bit Hmm at the idea of gyms being so important, but here we are.

KeyboardWorriers · 10/04/2021 18:45

@LittleDoritt I am so sorry about your sister. Really sorry. I suffered from anorexia and I will never forget seeing my family so worried.
Mental health provision in this country is awful.

My heart goes out to her family and friends.

sonofbobandflo · 10/04/2021 18:46

Don't look at the crowdfunder page, I've been told the photo is awful. Poor woman to have died like that and to have her photo posted online.

Mrsjayy · 10/04/2021 18:46

this is such a shame I watched her mum on telly the other week this had been a life long illness. Poor NikkiSad

anon12345678901 · 10/04/2021 18:48

I really liked her on BB, I hadn't read about the Go fund me last month and just saw the pictures linked. She looked so poorly then. Such a shame she couldn't get the help she needed Sad

RuthW · 10/04/2021 18:48

RIP
That has made me really sad.

That must have been devastating. I'm so sorry for your family's loss Flowers
Youcanleaveyourhaton · 10/04/2021 18:48

Oh no that’s shocking. I had read about the fundraising for her treatment so knew she was very ill.

Gyms are incredibly important to mental health as well as physical. It was such a shame they closed them. I can understand how she spiralled with them being closed.
Bluntness100 · 10/04/2021 18:50

I think though it would have been very hard for her to survive the condition she was in, the images she released, the back one particularly, were so distressing to see, she can’t have been more than four stone.

Her body sadly would have simply stopped functioning. It’s just devastating that mental illness can kill like this, and she is another Covid victim. Her mother said she was lonely and isolated as she couldn’t work or travel to see her friends due to lock down. And she couldn’t go to the gym and was too scared to eat if she couldn’t.

There are so many Covid victims that are not recognised as that, and peoooe who want lockdown to continue need to give a thought to people like Nikki.

ilovecarbs90 · 10/04/2021 18:50

She was on Big Brother in 2006 and is a good example of how attitudes have changed towards mental health and eating disorders. It was very clear she had issues - she was prone to screaming fits and meltdowns, but everyone and particularly the press thought it was hilarious entertainment. If it happened today, there would be great concern for her mental state and discussion on whether she should be on the show in the first place.
