Indy Sage are just a bunch of people annoyed that no one wanted them on Sage,

Grin

Against my better judgement I just looked at a thread about the Indian variant. Goodness, what is it with some people?

flower11 · 14/05/2021 11:15

I say that's good news keeping fingers crossed for you.

Loki I have thought the same about the Kent variant and India. They only want to hear what fits their narrow agenda.

I have stopped wearing a mask to drop dd she is anxious, so am I and I find it helps her to see my face and expression and fully communicate with her. I wear it at the other gate when drop ds as have to que there to drop to class door and in closer proximity to people.

@LivinLaVidaLoki

I loathe the way independent sage are revered over there *@MercyBooth* I can't even put my finger on why. They are generally touted as a group holding the government to account, questioning their data and showing that we all need to be in lockdown. Now. Forever. Yet any scientist that questions it at the other end of the spectrum, not predicting covid caused global annihilation if we don't all glue ourselves into our houses, are labelled as "not credible at all", "conspiracy theorist", "right wing with an agenda".

Since when did a group of people on Mumsnet become the authority on which scientist has the more credible background, or their political leanings and even that they know better than them because they've looked at the data on Worldometer is just breathtakingly arrogant.

I keep reminding myself that a significant proportion of MNers think there is a direct correlation between the temperature and UV/ sunburn. It helps with perspective.

I have a feeling that the average MNer is also more risk averse than the average person. (See also threads on car seats - if they were representative of the population they'd stop making FF car seats due to low demand - not that I'm against extended RF seats!)

BogRollBOGOF · 14/05/2021 12:05

It's the earnest pledges to keep children rear facing until 25kg that amuse me... DS has only recently reached 25kg and was able to relinquish his HBB by that point at the cusp of being 9/10.
He's got a long torso so has often been too long to fit comfortably in a seat, but not met the minimum for the next stage!

He came food shopping with me this week and asked if he could sit in the front. There was no real reason to decline in the absence of DS2 to fall out with Grin
It was rather nice having him next to me, and he didn't even undergo internal decapitation Wink

It's my mission to spend minimal time in the house today. I have gratuitously browsed in IKEA Grin I really noticed the smells of different departments. I've never enjoyed eau-de-rug department so much Grin

I’m only just tall enough not to need a booster seat myself!

Can I have a little GP surgery whinge please. I’m not one for going to the doctors and never have been but was struggling and after much arguing with the GP I was given HRT. The prescribed dose helped for a bit but then I had to increase it. Obviously I then went through the gel quicker. I’ve called my surgery 56 times over the last few days and either the line is engaged or they don’t answer. You can only book “on the day” appointments at bang on 8am, there’s no queuing system or online booking. They won’t respond to emails, I can’t get a repeat prescription without speaking to the GP and I can’t get through on the phone! I start work at 8.15 so can’t just ring repeatedly until I get through. Apparently the system works well for them so they won’t be changing it!

No surgeries in my area are taking on new patients so I can’t even move practices. It’s so frustrating.

Whinge over.

110APiccadilly · 14/05/2021 12:52

DD is still in a stage 0 lie flat (I have my own weird risk aversions and we're ultra careful about SIDS and sleeping positions - there has been a SIDS death in the extended family which has made me a bit paranoid - but at least I know I'm paranoid!) But she's shaping up to have a long torso as well (as do I) so I imagine we'll have similar issues with seats.

I remember when IKEA in Cardiff reopened after one of the lockdowns - all my Cardiff friends were going there for a trip out!

DrRamsesEmerson · 14/05/2021 13:37

I feel your pain @Iheartmysmart. I'm trying to get my Mirena coil replaced. My GP doesn't do them any more. The local FP clinic has basically done nothing since January and has a waiting list to the moon and back. I'll probably be menopausal by the time I get to the top of it. Weighing up whether to go private or just leave it on the basis the one I have in isn't actually causing me any trouble.

Iheartmysmart · 14/05/2021 13:44

@DrRamsesEmerson Sorry you’re suffering too. It’s so frustrating. I know what you mean about going private and I could probably afford it if I stopped buying wine but why should we. It’s basic healthcare at the end of the day, something we’ve not been able to access for over a year.

e mail them and ask how you can lodge a complaint with the practice manager, stating what you have done to try and get through to them. It works.

Our surgery said on FB book for second jab. well you cannot phone in, so I went to surgery spoke through intercom was told nope could not do it that way either, so no phone, no direct contact e mail instead. Someone kicked off on FB and was told to come to surgery and speak into intercom. I give up. I did e mail and got an appointment. Their phone queue system just kicks you off every time.

I am private health care, the waiting lists there have gone nuts, the NHS has grabbed them for cancer and urgent ops, so my urgent referral for an MRI, eight weeks and waiting. OH been on private health care waiting list for urgent op. for 14 months now.

Iheartmysmart · 14/05/2021 15:02

@justasking111 Thank you! I emailed them again with a screenshot from my phone detailing how many times I’d tried to get through. Just had a call back and now have a phone appointment in a weeks time.

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties with private health care as well. It really is a nightmare isn’t it.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 14/05/2021 19:52

After reading "Basically, they should put May 17'Easings' on hold until further notice"
And the amount of agreement over there.......I'm never going over there again.....

A WEEK!!!! that is still disgraceful. The NHS have told all gps to start running their surgeries properly as from Monday...

justasking111 · 14/05/2021 20:05

That baby seat thing was funny. I chipped in with my bit about convertible not taking isofix so it was forward facing for grandkids courtesy of the Halfords fitter. Well someone took umbrage at that, I was a bad granny. [laugh]

Iheartmysmart · 14/05/2021 20:28

I know it’s still disgraceful but a face to face routine appointment pre-covid was usually a 3 week wait so I guess it’s an improvement!

Have to confess that I was kind of hoping Boris was going to say he’d ordered some giant perspex domes like in the Simpson’s Movie to isolate the areas of concern.

ISaySteadyOn · 15/05/2021 08:07

That's cruel. Utterly cruel.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/05/2021 11:13

Utterly inhumane, for so many reasons Sad

Both of my births ended up in theatre and neither were easy recoveries for different reasons, but the key thing that stopped DS2's birth from being as traumatic as the first was communication, having a MW who did her best to get me comfortable and who got down to me to talk gently into my ear to tell me what was happening.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 15/05/2021 11:45

Can I a reeeeeaaallly stupid question?

Everyone's shitting their pants as cases of the Indian variant have doubled or trebled or whatever in a week. But case numbers are still the same. Its been here since Feb and hospital numbers are declining. Why is everyone losing their marbles? Why is this a reason to lockdown again?

Also Why do people keep spouting shit about how it won't hurt to delay the opening on Monday just a few more weeks? On top of being closed, do any of them have the faintest fucking idea how much it would have cost to get ready to reopen?

WouldBeGood · 15/05/2021 11:54

To be honest, @LivinLaVidaLoki I’m now convinced there is no intention to lift lockdown at any point.

And that the ups and downs are designed to mess with our heads.

Over a year on, the goal posts change again. Once again, no evidence to justify it.

TabbyStar · 15/05/2021 12:09

There are definitely more people saying they're done with it all and not following rules anymore. We've had so many variant scares that I don't think people believe it's going to amount to much.

This. If it's not deaths here (never with any context), it's deaths elsewhere, if not enough deaths, it's cases (why on earth do cases matter, especially now everyone even remotely vulnerable has been vaccinated), if it's not cases here, it's cases somewhere else. If it's none of those things, it's variants. All of it absolute and total nonsense. No idea why and my nerdiness precludes me from believing in 'conspiracy theories', but jesus this is clearly never going to end and there is absolutely no good reason for the madness... Therefore I have to assume that the reason is bad.
LivinLaVidaLoki · 15/05/2021 15:43

Also....Next time I see "just because you can't doesn't mean you should" I'm just gonna scream "WELL I CAN, SO I WILL...SO FUCK OFF"
