Also was on a bus and saw a waft of turquoise and pink coming out of a hotel - yep Barbara Cartland!

Also saw Bryan Ferry and Naomi Campbell's mother at a ball. No Mr Ferry didn't dance with me. Never even looked my way (swine!).

Christopher Dean

I saw a footballer in restaurant erecting to ear with his wife and children. Bless him, he patiently signed autographs and chatted to all comers! No idea who he was but he was quite patient and friendly.

Same restaurant and a woman walked in by herself and sat down. She has ‘something about her’ and caught my eye (the way she was dressed, her flawless skin, nice hair...). No idea who she was but teenage girls were falling over themselves to go up to her (again she was patient and friendly). Youngish, butterfly tattoo on her wrist... maybe off the twilly?

Saw Ken Livingstone on the tube.

PaperMonster · 08/04/2021 19:08

Oh I forgot, I saw Rick Astley in McDonalds when he was just starting to become famous. I am that old!

toffeebutterpopcorn · 08/04/2021 19:09

That rolling stone singer - in a video shop - I muttered swears at him (big fat feet in my way, he barged into me and he wasn’t looking were he was going).

I may have also called him a lazy sod (he had a chauffeur waiting outside with a huge rolls Royce). I didn’t see his face but clocked he we was a bloke with big feet and a chauffeur.

DH ‘you know who that was don’t you?’

I also saw Lulu as well both waited to cross the road there. She has the shortest mini skirt on and high heels and I thought ‘she’s a bit old for that - she’s older than my mum!’ (I know, wear what you like - but it was a very short skirt...). I didn’t clock who she was - or she would have got a ‘hey hen, I hope yuv goat some nickers oan!’

DH ‘you know who that was don’t you?’

Oh oh also - Bernie Eccleston! And his (very tall) ex wife in the park. He had dogs with him and ds (was small) loves dogs so went to ‘talk’ to them. She was really lovely and chatted to him and let him pat the dogs. Ernie stood further back with a face like a skelpt arse. As ever, on the way home ‘she was a nice lady - wasn’t she beautiful? I thought her husband was a bit of a grump...’ DH ‘that was Bernie Eccleston’

toffeebutterpopcorn · 08/04/2021 19:11

Oh and I saw the singer from led zeppelin. I recognised him (we had watched a very recent gig of his on tv the night before).

DH wasn’t there and he was gutted (he still doesn’t quite believe me as my track record for recognising people isn’t great).

NiceTwin · 08/04/2021 19:12

Dale Winton - very tall and very good looking in the flesh.

ErniesGhostlyGoldTops · 08/04/2021 19:14

We sat next to Mark Ruffalo and his partner in a London restaurant once and it was two years before I realised who he was. I don't watch much telly. I knew he was famous but I didn't have a clue who he was.

Beakind82 · 08/04/2021 19:15

Katie Hopkins - at a agricultural show. Exchanged a few words, actually very pleasant

Alex from Blur
David Cameron

Elderflower14 · 08/04/2021 19:19

Amanda Donohoe often...
Peter Purves often...

Matthew Horne on the underground.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 08/04/2021 19:19

Simon Pegg (very baggy jeans with lots of chains)
Rob Beckett (quite short)
Sandi Toksvig (dungarees and teeny tiny)
Roger Black (red puffa jacket and very tall)
Kerry Katona (very smiley)
Charlotte Hawkins
Flavia Cacace and Jimmy Mistry (Flavia many times as I used to live near her parents)
Roger Taylor
Julie Walters
Penelope Kieth
Michael Buerk

Elderflower14 · 08/04/2021 19:21

Rick Wakeman at the local railway station often too!

LyndaSnellsSniff · 08/04/2021 19:25

Oh and Alan Carr! (Taller than you’d think)
Robin Windsor from Strictly

CHISistoast · 08/04/2021 19:28

@BrownEyedGirl80

No but I live in a South Yorkshire town so not likely unfortunately
I bet Sean Bean can't have strayed far from Sheffield so there is hope!
FredaFox · 08/04/2021 19:32

Loads of times, I live in Manchester so seen plenty of Corrie folk, see Freddie Flintoff a lot, seen Noel Gallagher. They are always filming stuff though I missed Tom Hardy in costa when he was filming peaky blinders.
My mate saw Dave Grohl once, I was jealous of her!

Coachee · 08/04/2021 19:33

Loads and loads - fairly typical occurrence when living and working in central London.

Most notable - working in John Lewis on Oxford street as a student I served John Major, Jude Law, Martin Kemp, Sadie Frost, and Patsy Palmer.

Met Sean Connery and Richard Gere filming on location in my home town.

Saw James McAvoy and Ann Marie Duff shopping in Budgens in Crouch End. We were always spotting various East Enders cast members in our local pub, and a walk on Hampstead Heath would usually result in a celebrity spot.

We stood behind P Diddy in the security queue at Heathrow once. DH chatted to Pharrell on a ferry trip in Sydney.

I miss those glamorous days - celeb spots are thin on the ground where we live now, and never go anywhere exciting enough to bump into anyone remotely famous.

CHISistoast · 08/04/2021 19:38

@bendmeoverbackwards

Adam Ant in London, early 80s. I was about 11 and a huge fan. I was with my much older sister and we walked back past him to see if it was him. It was and my sister asked for an autograph, he obliged! I was over the moon.

Also saw Pauline Collins once in John Lewis Brent Cross.

I once served Joshua Rozenberg (legal correspondent) in John Lewis in Oxford Street, he returned two pairs of trousers 😂

But the most memorable one was seeing my beloved Victoria Wood in Brent Cross. She was going down an escalator and I was going up. I smiled at her. I did consider going back down and speaking to her but I didn’t want her to feel hassled. I really regret it now. RIP Victoria 😢

Love your name and RIP indeed. I'm being literal and sticking to the street, and saw Sally Dynevor in Wilmslow clutching the hand of a small girl and I'm going to call Phoebe. Less on the street but a public walkway: Jack Whitehall crossing the concourse at Euston.
Chunkymenrock · 08/04/2021 19:39

Emma Watson in a pub in Wales.

Cookie79 · 08/04/2021 19:41

A long time ago David Beckham in Manchester- he quietly walked out of the Kendal’s car park and into the side door to Daisy and Toms. Head down, not attracting attention. Reported next day in tabloid as having burly minders with him and people being pushed out of way etc - total lie.

Mark Owen lived in our village back in the day so wasn’t uncommon to see him at the cricket club minding his own business. Think an actress from Corrie lives round here too.

Oh and tenuous on the famous but they do go on this morning I suppose and were in it with the local vicar a while back too - the Speakmans - their house used to be a pub - can’t help but think “I got pissed in your house in the late 90s”.

Vindicated2021 · 08/04/2021 19:47

My friends (S&T we shall call them) used to live in Richmond and one Sunday morning S was in the kitchen making the coffee and looked out the window to see T talking to a guy at the gate. S walked back in with the papers and S said "Ooohhh do you know who you were just talking too?!" T said "He's the guy I walk up to the corner shop with every Sunday to get the papers. Very nice chap"

Turned out to be John Hannah. A very lovely guy. T didn't have a clue who he was even when told his name! 🤦‍♀️
