I saw George Sampson once.

OP posts:
PaperMonster · 08/04/2021 16:24

Oh, the actor David Ross paying for car parking at his local hospital.

LinzerTorte · 08/04/2021 16:49

Saw Paula Yates and Michael Hutchence having afternoon tea at the Pump Rooms in Bath. I only looked twice at them because they were both wearing sunglasses indoors; I probably wouldn't have noticed them otherwise. And I walked past Victoria Wood on the Strand in London (but only saw her because my mum pointed her out to me; I'm notoriously bad at recognising famous people).

mathanxiety · 08/04/2021 16:51

Tina Turner on Oxford Street.
Michael Jordan in Chicago.

They didn't see me 🙂

pinkmoomin · 08/04/2021 16:53

Simon Callow sat reading paper on tube
Rob Brydon in Space NK
Sean Bean drinking pint outside London pub
Rick Ashley in street
Gail Porter at Lego Land
Mo Farrah running in park
James Norton in airport departure lounge
Bill Bailey cycling in Kingston
Kevin Clifton in JD Sports

Linford Christie walked past my Dad & I while we were waiting for my Mum to come out of a shop in the West End.
We sat behind Lee Dixon & his family at a concert.
I walked smack bang into Russell Howard as I was leaving a cafe in Camden as he was walking in.
Craig David tried to chat my mate up when we were both at uni (I think she told him to piss off cos she wasn't interested)
Saw Ioan Gruffuyd at the theatre (he's quite tall)

I've also met plenty of celebrities at conventions/events or after a stage performance but that's not really chance encounters!

costco · 08/04/2021 17:08

I used to live in North London:
Jude Law
Sean Bean (served him a pint of lager)
Charles Dance
Robert Webb
Ed Miliband
Liam Gallagher & Nicole Appleton
Sharleen Spiteri (spelling?)
AA Gill
Prince Andrew (in CHinawhite's)
Goldie
Clive Owen
David Bailey
some Germany footballers I didn't know names of

Deathraystare · 08/04/2021 17:11

Paula yates and Bob Geldorf in tube station having a barney. She turned round and gave me the coldest stare! She was wearing a foul leather dress the colour of 'flesh' plasters.

Macaronirabbit · 08/04/2021 17:11

My DM saw Cliff Richard at a church service once, when we were tweens/teens. She came home really excited and said we'd never guess who she saw and it was v exciting. We had a few wildly optimistic guesses of which celebrity it might have been. I was so disappointed when it was only Cliff! 😂 (although at least I disnt feel I'd missed anyone that I actually would have been interested to see!)

costco · 08/04/2021 17:12

@amusedbush argh I'm jealous of your selfie with Jason Isaacs!

PollyannaWhittier · 08/04/2021 17:17

I saw Gordon Buchanan walking down Whiteladies Road / Clifton Triangle / Park Street a few times when I was at Bristol Uni. Presumably going to / from BBC natural history unit. He was quite rude to some students who went up and tried to speak to him on one occasion.

amusedbush · 08/04/2021 17:17
@amusedbush argh I'm jealous of your selfie with Jason Isaacs!
I'll be honest, I didn't even realise where we were but my feet were killing me after walking around London all day so I sat on the nearest wall. DH went to have a nosey in the window to see who was being filmed and nonchalantly told me "Jason Isaacs, apparently. Never heard of him..."

I shot off my seat like I was on fire and ran to the exit BlushGrin

toffeebutterpopcorn · 08/04/2021 17:18

Yea but I have a terrible eye for people - so it goes from either yelling ‘hi Fred, how’s your mum?’ (thinking they are a friend of a friend) or not having a clue. DH is good though but he always recognises people I wouldn’t know anyway (oh he was political editor on the economist on 1986, or that was the minister of transport in 200, or he was the CEO of BP in 1972 - or authors - who recognises authors??)

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 08/04/2021 17:23

Ainsley Harriot in Debenhams desperately trying to be noticed.
Stephen Mulhern in Costa being too loud.
Dan Snow in Sainsbury's

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 08/04/2021 17:27

Tyson Fury in the bank

Angel2702 · 08/04/2021 17:27

I bumped into Robbie Williams in an alleyway in London.

Olderkids · 08/04/2021 17:36

David and Victoria Beckham in the Trafford Centre. David was holding a very tiny Brooklyn, looking at trainers while Victoria sat munching a very large bag of crisps. Bet she doesn't do that now!

NeedCoffeeToSurvive · 08/04/2021 17:40

I used to live near Johnny Depp and saw him occasionally walking around town

dotdashdashdash · 08/04/2021 17:46

I was once at train station and said to a friend "that's John Thaw" my friend looked at him said "nah, John thaws dead". Turns out it was a friend of my dad's Grin

SnugglySnerd · 08/04/2021 17:49

Various footballers, managers and cricketers plus a few TV pundits. They stay in a city centre hotel when playing in my city and so sometimes see them walking about outside. Have seen some of the cricket commentators in the pub too.

JaninaDuszejko · 08/04/2021 17:55

Jeremy Paxman in Oxford. He was shorter than I expected.

MIL met Stephen Fry in Peru (he is very tall apparently). She told him off for being surrounded by the international press and said he had to meet some real Peruvians and so got a photo of him with her friend (taken by the press photographers!).

toffeebutterpopcorn · 08/04/2021 17:58

I wouldn’t know any of them... I did see Hatie Katie and Eddie Izzard (not at the same time). Funnily enough I didn’t ‘see’ who they were at first as they just caught my eye.

Katie has the coldest eyes - that’s what made me look again and Eddie was doing a ‘look at meeeeee!’ stalk and caught my attention (I just pretended not to notice, as I always do to people why try to get attention).

Did you overhear what they were arguing about?
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/04/2021 18:17

DH is convinced he saw Billy Murray ( Johnny Allen from Eastenders/Don Beech The Bill ) in M&S in a long black leather coat . I saw this bloke and thought "Nah he;s not tall enough to be a copper "

I do realise its not real Grin

Peter o'Toole - at an airport the tannoy called him and he wafted gracefully (this was over 25 years ago )

Deathraystare · 08/04/2021 18:39

@mermaidsariel

No I didn't hear but was fascinated by the foul dress that stuck out at weird angles.

Justcashnosweets · 08/04/2021 18:40

I once saw Christian Slater in a department store in Edinburgh, I was so thrilled, I was a big fan in the 90s. Then I looked out the window of the shop, and saw Dev from Corrie signing an autograph in the street. It was a real moment 🤣
