I saw George Sampson once.

Many years ago, I was in Scarborough and saw Jimmy Saville "jogging" in the street, along with 3 minders. I could have walked faster than that shuffle. I carried on past him and ignored. I don't know about vibes from him, but I certainly got vibes from the minders, they seemed like they were itching to get aggressive with someone.

LucyCC · 08/04/2021 11:21

Tom Hardy in the actual street
Chris Hemsworth also in the actual street
Stormzy in the park with his dog
David Attenborough, also in the park (but not with Stormzy or his dog)
Roy Hodgson in Waitrose
Rob Brydon at the tip
Fearne Cotton in a coffee shop
John Hannah in the same coffee shop

HeronLanyon · 08/04/2021 11:22

lucy bonus points for ‘the actual street’ Grin

I walked past Bruce Forsyth and Dublin airport. Also when I was a teenager I stayed in a holiday village in fuertaventura and one of the guys from the very popular at the time East 17 was there too with his girlfriend. It was only a handful of apartments with a small shared pool. One day I saw a £5 note (or equivalent, pesetas I imagine) on the bottom of the pool and swam down to get it and showed my friend at the poolside. Bonus to 13 year old me in 1993 ! Later when leaving the complex we walked past him and his girlfriend and he said to me 'you took my fiver'. I was over the moon that A, Brian Harvey had spoken to me and B, I had his fiver. I think I still spent it though 😆

midnightstar66 · 08/04/2021 11:27

@LucyCC what kind of dog does Stormzy have?

PaperMonster · 08/04/2021 11:34

Princess Diana in Salisbury. A Coronation Street star whose name I’ve forgotten in Manchester. Another Corrie star whose name I’ve forgotten, at a funeral just before Covid happened.

PaperMonster · 08/04/2021 11:35

@TurquoiseDragon I saw him too, but just couldn’t bring myself to type his name. He was on his own though.

ladywithnomanors · 08/04/2021 11:39

Mark Owen at a train station
Ralf Little in a pub
Maria from Coronation Street at Manchester airport

toppocket · 08/04/2021 11:39

John Hannah in my local Waitrose (he left his dog tied up outside).

Ben Kingsley on the street outside the ritz waiting for a cab (I was waiting for one too).

howmanyhats · 08/04/2021 11:40

I saw the actor who plays Phil Mitchell in a motorbike shop years ago.

My initial feeling was that he was someone I knew quite well from real life, and was just about to greet him as I would any friend I'd just bumped into, but luckily I realised who he was before I said anything.

I knew exactly who he was, but had he been someone less well known to me and I hadn't worked out who he was so quickly, I'm sure I would have gone through with greeting him as if an old friend.

I bet famous people get random people thinking they're an old friend all the time!

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/04/2021 11:47

I forgot one John Rhys-Davies at Heathrow.

LeeluTheNarwhal · 08/04/2021 11:48

I couldn't actually name any of them but we were once staying one night at a hotel the same time as a bunch of the "strongest men" competitors and ended up at breakfast the same time as them. It was one of the budget hotels with the free as much as you can eat breakfast buffets and I've never seen a hotel have to top up the sausages and eggs as much as I did that day. They were all lovely and friendly though and a couple of them played peekaboo with DD while they were waiting to go back for more food.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 08/04/2021 11:50

Used to see loads years ago when I worked close to Covent Garden. To name a few:
Graham Norton
Darcy Bussell
Michael Palin
Rick Parfitt
Marc Almond
Vivienne Westwood
Mel Giedroyc

We used to have a 'celeb spot' tally chart in the office.

HeronLanyon · 08/04/2021 11:50

howmanyhats I once turned a corner in Islington just minding my own business - a pub door burst open and Phil Mitchell strode towards me with that ‘look’.
I was honestly startled and I confess worried. For a moment I was completely confused (I may even have thought id stumbled onto east Enders’ set or perhaps that he was ‘real’ and something was ‘going dahnnn’.
Turns out they were doing a lighting/blocking check for later filming.
No idea why he needed that hard man look on ! Grin

HeronLanyon · 08/04/2021 11:58

EastofEdna · 08/04/2021 11:59

Sean(n) Walsh - tube at Camden
Michael Palin - coming out of the British Library
Jo Wood - coming out of a Tesco Express, Camden
Sean Evans, restaurant in Liverpool - we were all a bit star struck for that one

All of them teeny tiny - except Sean(n) Walsh.

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2021 11:59

Status Quo filmed the video to “The Wanderer” in my school playground at break time.

Passthewinebottle · 08/04/2021 12:03

Denise Van Outen on Regents St
Dermot O'Leary at a festival urinal
Neil Buchanan on a tube

Passthewinebottle · 08/04/2021 12:06

My friend has a good one, he met his all time favourite musician, Liam Gallagher, walking down a random side street in Orlando.

knackeredcat · 08/04/2021 12:08

@expectopelargonium

StreetCat Bob in Covent Garden.
Me too, @expectopelargonium Smile

Mostly airports for me -

Jedward in a hurry in Heathrow
Keith Duffy and a chap who played a character called Patrick Tussel (had to google him) in Belfast City Airport in 2005, the latter gave me a cheeky smile Grin
Jodie Marsh queuing near us in Stansted around 2004 - I'm only 5' 3" but she is TINY
The former footballer Marco Van Basten in Utrecht - I did a double take trying to remember who he was, plus he looked good Wink

Yes, it was in Islington I saw him too! Motorbike shop (or was it a general car and bike shop I forget) at Highbury Corner. It's not there anymore.

He looked pretty cheerful! Perhaps buying bits for his scooter makes him happy?

drigon · 08/04/2021 12:16

Think I saw Mikhail Gorbachev and his wife - Riasa?- in London in early 1998. They both wore dark glasses and I'm sure it was him due to the birthmark on his head. Quite a surreal sighting!

WhatTimeDoYouCallThis · 08/04/2021 12:20

Lucy Worsley - I looked at her sort of 'Oooh are you?!' and she grinned at me as if to say 'yes I am!'. She was wearing an interesting hat, of course.

peak2021 · 08/04/2021 12:32

Quite a few on the tube.
