Rick Mayall on Ladbroke Grove, Jamie Cullum in a bike shop (another one who gave me a lovely smile) and Paddy Ashdown on the tube, who laughed at one of my jokes.

A very famous Hollywood actress who needed A&E services for her child. Didn’t want to wait. Thought she looked familiar, but couldn’t place her. She got a long spiel about being referred to social services for child neglect if she decided not to wait. Colleagues who could hear all of this through the curtain were quietly dying laughing when I came out and informed me who she was. Same rules apply. She’s not special because she is Hollywood and her child definitely needed to wait for treatment.

A few years ago when on a weekend break visiting Powerscourt outside Dublin we saw Terry Wogan. Dh did a radio programme on a local community radio station and got his Autograph for the station.

The Royal Family when we used to live in Windsor. Regularly saw Prince Charles, Princess Anne ( especially riding in the Great Park we had a gate into from the garden )and Prince Andrew. The Queen and Prince Phillip as we went from school to welcome them home from trips to the Commonwealth, Africa etc.

We met Lord Snowdon and Princess Margaret in the Great Park one winter. He stopped to ask what the snow was like. I was tobogganing.

Some of the most famous Prime Ministers, Premiers and President in France. We were asked to wait and we were right on the corner when a cavalcade drove out and right past us including the President.

AC/DC before they were famous played at our school several times.

Some actors on the launch that our friend has. Some of the cast of Emmerdale were on one day from a long time ago.

Victoria Beckham in Mango in the Trafford Centre. It escalated quickly, the shop was shuttered, 100’s waiting outside as it turned out David Beckham was also there (in charge of the kids).

Loads of others, but that’s the one with the best story.

See this is what I imagine must drive you potty if you’re a well known celeb. I can well imagine the crowd gathering outside and news travelling fast, people stopping to see what’s going on and adding to the numbers. I think it would be bloody scary.

I saw Darren O'Briain in the street at the Edinburgh Festival. For an instant I didn't recognise him - well, I knew I knew him but kind of thought it was just someone I knew rather than a famous person. Without thinking I just said "oh hi!" as if he was some guy from work. He gave me a withering look like I was some sort of deluded fan... oh, the horror!

Sometimes it's only later when you realised who you've just seen, I was at the traffic lights when a car pulled up alongisde and I knew the face but couldn't place him. Realised later it was Prince Harry.
