Have you ever fallen asleep holding something

I have CFS/M.E and quite often doze off reading with the book in my hand. I've dropped my phone on my face many times whilst in bed. I've also launched my tablet across the room once and smashed the screen when jolting awake. Drinks have been spilled on me (and one on my laptop Shock).

I seem to have made quite the habit of it lol

Yep. Usually a glass of red wine.

swapsicles · 07/04/2021 21:05

I usually wake up when my phone/book/kindle hits the floor or bath water tbh 😁
Weirdly fell asleep with chewing gum and still had it in the morning, certainly lost it's flavour by then!

Missingthesea · 07/04/2021 21:05

Yes, usually half a cup of tea.

eosmum · 07/04/2021 21:06

Yep, DD2 aged 6 weeks. Very scary was sitting on the edge of the bed and DH came into the room and just caught her before she rolled out of my arms. Also regularly books and kindle.

thenightsky · 07/04/2021 21:06

My friend was Type 1 diabetic and often woke up with haribo milk bottles stuck to her face!

Whysotired · 07/04/2021 21:07

iPad, the bloody corner of it hit my eye and I had a black eye for a week. That was fun to explain at work the next day.. Blush

Children when feeding. Especially dd2 who didn't sleep.

PickAChew · 07/04/2021 21:11

I've often been woken up by Y kindle landing on my face.

I normally grab a tissue, before I go to sleep, so I can deal with the inevitable annoying nose tickles without havi g to sit up. I often wake up still holding it (with an achy hand)

Once fell asleep after the Christmas market, in my husband's car as he drove us home. I'd had a tray of cinnamon sugared churros I'd obviously just finished. I must have been in between sleep and awake with it in my hand resting on my lap, my arm did that jolty thing your legs sometimes do when you're dropping off.... Jesus, the mess! Sugar all over the front seats Grin

MarshaBradyo · 07/04/2021 21:30

Yes my dc

vampirethriller · 07/04/2021 21:31

A cheeseburger.

SusannaMorvern · 07/04/2021 21:31

My phone usually, it wakes me with a jolt. But I always sleep clutching something - item of clothing, corner of quilt, teddy bear - I can't sleep otherwise.

Hellocatshome · 07/04/2021 21:32

I have dropped books/phones on my face regularly. However my worst one I wasn't holding anything but I fell asleep while sitting on the toilet and only woke up after I smashed my face on the sink and broke my nose.

I read this as Yankee Candle for a minute and thought wow that sounds painful.

It’s usually a glass of wine for me. I have been known to keep it upright for the duration of the snooze.

A few weeks after giving birth, I resorted to eating a bowl of cornflakes in the bath. So tired, multi tasking when I barely had a minute to myself. Fell asleep and woke to a bath full of floating cornflakes, they all stuck to me when I stood up, it was pretty much the last straw.

MrsBungle · 07/04/2021 21:35

Yep my kindle whacks me in the face most nights!

Sickoffamilydrama · 07/04/2021 21:36

DD now 13 unfortunately a few times she spent months of feeding every 2-3 hours and wouldn't take a bottle, I'm surprised her & I survived that time!

Eyevorbig0ne · 07/04/2021 21:38

Yes. When I started a new really difficult job, I would fall asleep holding a hot cup of tea. I burned myself a few times.

pastaparadise · 07/04/2021 21:38

Reminds me of ds1 - fell asleep mid apple in his high chair Smile

paishebek · 07/04/2021 21:38

As others have said, my newborn quite a few times whilst feeding. I started cosleeping whilst feeding instead to make it safer.

Queenoftheashes · 07/04/2021 21:38

Fell asleep on the first train of the day out of Waterloo with a can of beer in my hand. Woke up and I was still holding it but has dripped beer all over the floor and all the commuters were diligently ignoring my rough behaviour.

Some moons ago, my brother came home fairly worse for wear (late teens) and made a bacon sandwich.

My mother came down in the morning to find our Labrador gazing adoringly at said sandwich. And also standing in a puddle of drool.

She could have stole it at any point and he wouldn’t have been any the wiser.

yankeedoodlecandy · 07/04/2021 22:00

Yes my DS.
I was feeding him in bed and dropped off literally for a second, he was absolutely fine but it scared me so much.
