Have you ever fallen asleep holding something

I have CFS/M.E and quite often doze off reading with the book in my hand. I've dropped my phone on my face many times whilst in bed. I've also launched my tablet across the room once and smashed the screen when jolting awake. Drinks have been spilled on me (and one on my laptop Shock).

I seem to have made quite the habit of it lol

My best mate fell asleep in bed after a rather raucous night out (with me Grin). Unfortunately she'd picked up a kebab on her way home and taken that to bed with her and had barely had a mouthful before she conked out.
She sent me a photo of the fallout the next day. It was carnage of epic proportions! Grin

My mouthguard, I can't go to sleep without it in, but I regularly wake up without it in my mouth, but holding it in my hand (as though I am about to pop it back in at any point)

I was getting quite frustrated until, my lovely dentist pointed out that even if it was only in for two or three hours, it was two or three hours of less clenching of teeth and it could only help.

PugInTheHouse · 07/04/2021 22:24

My kindle, my phone and I used to regularly spill coffee on myself sat in bed drinking it. DH used to find it hilarious, he never bloody stopped me doing it even if he noticed me falling asleep! I don't drink coffee in bed any more!

anotherexhaustedpigeon · 07/04/2021 22:25

Yes! Have fallen asleep draped over a motorboat engine house, draped over DDs cot, often doze off at traffic lights, at the dinner table, in any yoga class in any position on the floor, under a hedge once. I'm well known in my group of friends for it.

WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself · 07/04/2021 22:28

I regularly clatter myself in the face with my Kindle.

I’ve definitely read that dentists are repairing lots of chipped teeth thanks to nocturnal attacks by phones, iPads and Kindles.

@eosmum

Yep, DD2 aged 6 weeks. Very scary was sitting on the edge of the bed and DH came into the room and just caught her before she rolled out of my arms. Also regularly books and kindle.
Did a similar thing . When DD was the same a couple of weeks old I fell asleep feeding her , woke up and assumed I’d lost her in my duvet, searched and panicked then heard her snoring in the Moses basket on the floor ! She went in her Moses basket in her cot after that.

Loads - most recent was when I dozed off with a coffee and my laptop on my chest. It was a misdirected police call so I struggled to, very disoriented, clutching my coffee and my laptop.

I just said 'yes?' very sleepily to the police then they realised they'd got it wrong. They were asking if there was a disturbance and I said no, I'd just fallen asleep whilst watching a movie.

QueenPaw · 07/04/2021 22:35

I woke up once, very very hungover drunk
My friend rang me and said I was adamant I was in a bed, in a house and when she asked if it was my own house I said "no, it's the police" laughed, and hung up Confused
Anyway I found myself covered in blood so got in the shower only to discover I must have fallen asleep holding a tub of chilli sauce
The taxi driver had left my shoes outside with a note saying "Cinderella" and my neighbours car I had obviously fallen over and also covered in chilli sauce BlushBlush

jellybe · 07/04/2021 22:46

Yup, normally a book or my kindle as I read at bed time. My DH often removes it and my glasses.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 07/04/2021 22:51

Usually my kindle.

I used to sometimes wake up holding DH's hand - even if we had settled down to sleep facing opposite directions Grin

FrangipaniBlue · 07/04/2021 22:52

Regularly drop my phone on my face, usually reading MN in bed Grin

KatherineJaneway · 07/04/2021 22:53

Glass of water.

Jocasta2018 · 07/04/2021 22:56

Thanks to a new mix of anti-psychotics, I once woke up in the early hours to find myself sitting up in bed, the light on, my glasses still on straight & my book on my chest.
I can't remember the book & we altered the meds mix!

ThePontiacBandit · 07/04/2021 23:07

FinallyFluid I had orthodontic headgear for over a year. I’d often wake up to find I’d pulled it off in my sleep and flung it on the floor!

I sometimes sleep with ear plugs and take them out in my sleep. Then occasionally I dream I have sweets in my hand and put them in my mouth. I wake with quite the start to the vile taste of foam earplugs and ear wax!

hazandduck · 07/04/2021 23:17

Oh god I’ve fallen asleep with a cup of tea on new expensive white bedding before! First use of it! DH was happy 😬 It was when our second Dd was about 2 weeks old, I’d held off using it to avoid my waters going on them and ruining them. Ended up downstairs at about 2am like a zombie handscrubbing at the tea stain with vanish and whatever else to stop it setting because DH had told me again and again white bedding was a bad idea because I would ruin it...

Also as a child especially I always fell asleep with pens in my hand. Everything was ink stained. It still happens sometimes now. Again, to DH’s despair! Always drawing in bed (they are those sketchy type art pens that just leak on everything.)

BitOfFun · 07/04/2021 23:26

Not generally, but since I've been on pain medication, I do regularly fall asleep holding something- a melted chocolate bar, a balanced cup of tea, even wine that I haven't quite spilled.

Knittingnanny · 07/04/2021 23:36

Newest grandson ( 7 months) is very taken with grandad and is often handed to him to have a nap on. They both end up asleep after a few minutes. I put lots of cushions around them but so far no accidents!

NoseOfJericho · 07/04/2021 23:45

Often fell asleep with a book.

Progressed to falling asleep while holding my cat. She insisted on being in my arms at every opportunity, I would often wake, still sitting on the sofa to find I had missed the end of the film I was watching, still holding a small cat, front paws on one arm and back paws in my hand.

Chocolate, in the days when it was real chocolate and not palm oil bars with a dash of chocolate and tons of sugar. I used to put the (small) bar in my mouth and let it melt. It would melt and fall off as I fell asleep, and continue to melt on my clothes as I slept.

SpongeCakeAddict · 08/04/2021 00:12

Chocolate, cheese, and a few days ago I woke up with the Marmite tub.

picknmix1984 · 08/04/2021 03:29

I fell asleep standing up one night when I was a student nurse. One minute I was reading my notes in the middle of the bay in the dark the next I was picking myself up off the floor. Nothing 4 strong coffees didn't sort!

avamiah · 08/04/2021 03:32

My phone in bed .

CtrlU · 08/04/2021 03:43

My vibrator; often with dead batteries
