He was only 54, I loved him in Friday Night Dinner.

@Bloodypunkrockers

So sad in this house.

We hinged watched today in his honour

Bugger off

Hinge watched?

In commemoration of dad’s annual hinge oiling evening, I’m sure.

Quaagars · 07/04/2021 00:48

In commemoration of dad’s annual hinge oiling evening, I’m sure.

Lol, who says they can't be spontaneous?!
Local Chinese rather than Paris lol (Bloody Val)

Bloodypunkrockers · 07/04/2021 01:09

Red currant GrinGrin

Exactly that.

Shitting autocorrect

Giggorata · 07/04/2021 01:15

Definitely shit on it, bambinos. ☹️

He was brilliant in Chernobyl, too.

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/04/2021 01:27

@penguinpostcard

So sad to hear this news. Had only just finished listening to the radio adaptation of the book Meet Me At The Museum - it's still on BBC Sounds for a couple more weeks. He was perfect in it.
Oh, he was wonderful in it wasn't he? www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000tcnr

Do give it a listen if you haven't already. 10 x 15 minute episodes.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 07/04/2021 07:56

@SnarkyBag thanks for posting that. God he was funny. What a terrible loss. Sad

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 07/04/2021 08:26

I hope someone in his family is a mumsnetter and sees this thread. It’s such a great tribute.

Bythevennel · 07/04/2021 08:54

Aw man he was just bloody brilliant wasn't he. I only discovered FND recently and me and ds have been binge watching it ever since. He totally made the show. It really cheered us up and is the first program to make me proper laugh out loud in ages. We were sat watching it yesterday when I heard the news Sad. So very young too. RIP the comedy genius.

CherryValanc · 07/04/2021 08:58

If I was in any way tech-savvy I'd love to piece together a montage of the vast arrange of roles he played. Hopefully, someone who knows how will at some point.

He was an incredibly talented actor within such a wide range

bonfireheart · 07/04/2021 09:14

For those only familiar with his FND role, I would really recommend watching some of the other great work he's done:

RedcurrantPuff · 07/04/2021 09:32

I’d heard he was fabulous in Chernobyl, we don’t have sky or cable tv so not sure where I can watch it.

bonfireheart · 07/04/2021 09:44

I think Now TV have Chernobyl and they have a free trial so am going to sign up on Sunday and binge watch :)

SnarkyBag · 07/04/2021 09:47

He was so brilliant in Chernobyl that it was only a couple of weeks ago I found out it was him! I still would have had no idea if someone hadn’t pointed it out.

halfbakedkate · 07/04/2021 09:54

So so sad. FND is part of our family fabric. It's one of only a few shows we all love and watch over and over together. We can't drive past a Mercedes without saying it is a very fast car, eat a roast without it being a lovely bit of squirrel or drop anything without shouting shit on it.
I agree with the poster who said they hope his family know how much he meant to them and draw some comfort from that. We all shed a genuine tear yesterday. He will never be forgotten.

IntermittentParps · 07/04/2021 09:54

Redcurrant, yes, as bonfireheart says, Chernobyl is on Now TV. I watched it with a free trial.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 07/04/2021 10:36

i think you can buy Chernobyl on Prime

peak2021 · 07/04/2021 11:48

I think that the number of responses and fond memories on this thread says a lot about how talented and admired Paul Ritter's talents were.

spiderlight · 07/04/2021 11:51

As soon as I recognised him in Chernobyl, I wanted him to say 'It's boiling'!

bonfireheart · 07/04/2021 12:03

@peak2021 the comments on twitter, in newspapers all are a testament to the man he was and the life he lived, that's a real legacy to leave behind when people speak so fondly of you.

Cocolapew · 07/04/2021 12:33

How lovely at how many people bond with their teens over FND.
My DD first to discovered it years ago, and told me and DH to watch it. We still Shalom each other now.
Martin was a fantastic character played to perfection.

HebeMumsnet · 07/04/2021 12:54

FND had just started when I was heavily pregnant with my first baby. I laughed so hard at the Mercedes episode I broke my waters. They were probably on their way out anyway, as was the day before my due date, but I like to blame FND and Paul Ritter was the best character in it. So sad he's gone. We need a 'lovely bit of squirrel' or a 'bare chest' emoji.

FaceyRomford · 07/04/2021 12:59

He was great as DCI Stanhope's somewhat sleazy pathologist Billy in "Vera". So sad.

OhWhyNot · 07/04/2021 13:01

Oh the Mercedes episode

I know the restaurant conversation off by heart

Any mention of a Mercedes and I’m giggling inside

tf23 · 07/04/2021 13:07

Loved him in FND. He was by far the funniest character. Really sad.

He was also brilliant as the cctv expert in the BBC program The Capture (about cctv manipulation).

We will miss Martin....

RedcurrantPuff · 07/04/2021 13:15

Thank you I’ll try and get it look on now or prime for it

I haven’t seen anyone post anything other than absolutely lovely comments about him x
