My amazing new post-covid life. Anyone joining?

MinnieMous3 · 30/03/2021 20:43

Sitting on my arse for a year in a house I hate in an area that depresses me has given me the kick up the bum to make some badly needed changes to my life. Some of them are mundane stuff, some life changing stuff, some trivial stuff!

Does anyone fancy joining before I embarrass myself by writing a sort of post-pandemic bucket list only for nobody to reply? Blush

Hoping we can keep in touch, check in around Christmas time and see how much of it we have ticked off...

Wurrg · 30/03/2021 20:46

Yes! What's your list?

Grilledaubergines · 30/03/2021 20:48

I would love to make so many changes but am too scared to bite the bullet. If I were ballsy enough, I’d sell my house, change my job, move area, cut a few ties, get my head straight. If I leave things too long then the most will pass, I know. But fear of the unknown is my block. I am so full of admiration for people who just go for it and push forward.

WiseOwlOne · 30/03/2021 20:48

Yes!

Grilledaubergines · 30/03/2021 20:48

Moment*

WiseOwlOne · 30/03/2021 20:50

Ive no big problems but i have a few areas that could be less ..... fraught!

EssexLioness · 30/03/2021 20:51

This is a lovely idea! Will have a think about what to add to mine but one is to start volunteering. I also started a new hobby in lockdown and have signed up to a related diploma course starting in September. Also to get to a healthy weight: lost 2 1/2 stone, about 1- 1 1/2 more to go

MinnieMous3 · 30/03/2021 21:51

Phew got some replies Grin

In the process of moving house, so all being well that will ticked off 🤞🏻 I hated this house before covid, and the lockdown put it all under a microscope. Sooooo hoping to be moved by summer as I can’t face another heatwave with no garden 😫

Need to lose the stone I’ve put in over lockdown and plan to do this by:

  • sea swimming at least once a week
  • finding a new yoga class
  • taking up a new fitness class - not sure what yet

Want to get a tattoo I’ve wanted since I was 16!!
Want to dye my hair - blonde is too high maintenance so going back to my natural light brown/auburn colour
Going to save up for Revitalash because my eyelashes depress me

Feel like I spend way too much time on Mumsnet scrolling through shit on my phone, so I’m going to take up knitting again. Once I’m back up to scratch I would like to knit for a local NICU or charity.
Want to read a new book every month. Not fussy about what but I want to finish Wolf Hall
Need to kick my chocolate addiction because it’s getting out of hand

Also need to be better organised... I’ve been chaotic my entire life and it has to stop.

You next Grin

Fab list of goals @MinnieMous3! Yes I need to stop scrolling through my phone. I’ve also got into the bad habit of watching shit daytime tv since lockdown too. I waste so much time every day.
I’m planning on taking a walk every evening after dinner now the weather is getting nicer

motheroreily · 30/03/2021 23:15

Oh yes me please can I join? This past year has made me realise how isolated and lonely I am. The only time I interact with people is at work and it doesn't look like my office will reopen. I'm scared when lockdown is over my life will be exactly how it is now. I also watch loads of daytime TV. I sit working in the living room with the TV one and watch Netflix in the evenings and weekends. So need to expand my life more.
In terms of goals. I'd like to take up a new fitness class. I need to make some friends not sure how to do that!
I love the idea of seaswimming every week.

Confusedmeanderings · 30/03/2021 23:20

Hmmm... Lets see ...

I want to be more organised, so I'm planning to keep a digital bullet journal.
I have a small business, but I tend to work at it as and when the mood takes me. That means I don't really have a work life balance and I'm not as productive as I could be. I need to have a better working routine.
There is a lovely nature reserve near me, Great for bird watching. I want to make time to visit each week through spring and summer to see how the bird life changes.
Over lockdown, I've let myself go a bit, living in leggings and not wearing make up. Definitely need to lose some weight too!

I think that's enough!

folloyourarro · 30/03/2021 23:23

I've moved house and lost a stone so those are ticked off my list!

Next is finding a new job, not happy where I am, want the next grade up, hoping to utilise our new location and home office to work somewhere further away but flexibly. 5 applications pending, one more to do.

Matilda2013 · 30/03/2021 23:24

Oh I can join. I moved home before lockdown because of a bad relationship I was still trying to fix. That ended completely in lockdown so I now need to focus on me Smile

I'm looking to be more fit. I have exercised regularly since January but I've had a bad week this week. Also looking to hopefully buy a house at some point hopefully in the summer. Not sure how possible this is as a single person but I plan to try.
Also.. If allowed I would like to try date again when we can meet new people. Turned 30 during lockdown and my life just isn't what I expected at this age and I'm scared it will get away from me.

Ohpulltheotherone · 30/03/2021 23:26

OP use dark caster oil on your eyelashes.

It’s really sticky so only do it at night! I dip an old clean mascara wand into my jar and apply like mascara.

It’s known for its hair growth properties and I’ve had much better results with this on my lashes and brows than the chemical growth serums online.

I bought a huge Jamaica organic virgin dark caster oil from Amazon for about 9£ Grin

Libraryghost · 30/03/2021 23:43

I have ticked off 1 bucket list wish this year. I have full eyebrows after 20 years of overplucking! They look shit, badly need shaping professionally but at least I have eyebrows now. The most important thing I am going work on is my patience or lack of it. Since covid struck I have been very irritable and snappy.. I am trying chill and let things go.

NurseButtercup · 30/03/2021 23:57

Yes, I'd like to join in! I've got a really long list. I used to have loads of different hobbies, but I stopped waaaay before lockdown because of a change in my income.

I'm going to try all the activities I've been curious about for ages, but talked myself out of. These include:

  • Learn to sew - book a course & buy a sewing machine.
  • before lockdown there was a bi-monthly rollerdisco that I wanted to go to, but I talked myself out of, I'm going to see if that restarts.
  • swimming lessons - I'm not a confident swimmer and in 2022 onwards, I want to go on boat trips & jump in the sea like everyone else.
  • practice yoga & meditation every morning.
  • Redecorate my entire house rearrange furniture, upcycle some existing furniture. Also visit charity shops for furniture upcycling projects.
  • change my eating habits - lose weight drink more water.
  • join a walking club.
  • Go to live music venues more often.

I've got quite a lot to fit in phew...l

CaptainCaveMum · 31/03/2021 00:24

Oh yes.
I never do new year’s resolutions but this is the right time of year and the right year to make changes.

  1. Have more alcohol-free days and weeks
  2. Exercise - find a new one I like (and can do with arthritis) or just walk a lot more (and get back to a healthy weight in the process)
  3. Spring clean and keep the house tidy afterwards
  4. Clear out my wardrobe and re-fill with clothes that make me feel good
  5. Finally stick with meditation as a daily practice
  6. Finish my book (writing, not reading)
  7. Catch up with old friends
Crazybunnylady123 · 31/03/2021 01:08

I need to join. Im stopping breastfeeding soon and I need to do some things for me.
Loose weight being the main one, do more exercise.
Eat better.
Take my hobbies further and make time for them.
Redecorate my kids rooms.
Sort out my garden.
Get a hamster Grin
....that’s a start anyway!

Lavanderrose · 31/03/2021 01:28

@motheroreily this is me to. I’m scared that after lockdown my life will still be the same and I definitely want to make some friendships!!

Count me in.

  1. Save and not spend my entire pay check
  2. Learn to drive
  3. Try and meet new people
  4. Focus on my interests and get some fun hobbies
subbysammiexoxo · 31/03/2021 01:43

My life has possibly changed for the better because of covid, was in a fairly abusive relationship for 5 years which ended before christmas, I went back to uni to finish my degree, moved to London which I have always wanted to do, I'm seeing someone new that treats me as an equal not as a carer or as a maid, new friends (wasn't allowed any in my relationship), health getting better, overcome my drinking that occurred because of the abuse I recieved, dressing how I want to going where I want to and starting a great new role in the summer.

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 31/03/2021 07:43

I've managed to gain a stone in this year of lockdown so am now 2.5 stone heavier than I want to be.

Once back to work soon I won't have time to pick so number one on my list is to shift the extra.

Number two is to enjoy the outdoors more. We live in a fantastic place with beaches woods and lovely walks nearby and we've made the most of it for the last year so want to keep it up.

I've also promised myself a better work life balance once the rush settles down. It's been a rollercoaster of a year but I've had so much more time with my dc and now my dh as he swapped roles at work so we now see him a lot more at home and it's been fab.

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 31/03/2021 07:45

@subbysammiexoxo
I'm loving your post.

Bloody well done to you for changing all those things.

I love posts like yours as a reminder that to change things for ourselves we need to step out to do so.

The very very best of luck in your new life you bloody deserve it

Lostinthewilderness · 31/03/2021 07:51

I’m going to push to work from home once Covid ends. Saves me hours (3.5 hours a day) commuting with the stress that entails (train delays) and working in a noisy crowded office which I hate.

It has meant I can get involved in evening activities, eg the cycling group I joined last summer has just resumed group rides. For the first time ever I actually have something of a social life & I am fitter and mental health is better.

My job is one where it is easy to measure productivity & my output has increased significantly during Covid WFH so hopefully my boss will agree!

Itsalonghaul · 31/03/2021 08:23

YAASSSS! Love these threads, thanks op for starting one.

  1. I have started working out for an hour a day, I want to keep it up
  2. I have started my G&T with cucumber and mint, I want to keep this up
  3. I want to swim in the sea so badly
  4. Finish my house overhaul, just two rooms to go!
  5. I am horse riding/galloping with my dc this summer as much as I can
  6. Set a fixed routine for walking my dogs

I have now got my new wardrobe for spring summer, need to add finishing touches. Shoes, bags and earings.

Beauty and hair apps all booked in the coming weeks to get ready for summer.
Need to find a light and natural tan to ready my legs for summer dresses.
I have already overhauled my diet, it is super healthy now and that is going well.

I feel a burst of happiness with this list, and even if I manage some of the things on there it will be a great thing.

Good luck everyone! This is likely to be a summer to remember and we need to be ready to enjoy every moment :)

Itsalonghaul · 31/03/2021 08:24

subby you are a total inspiration.

MinnieMous3 · 31/03/2021 08:55

So many great posts on here. It’s interesting most are to do with well-being/self care.

Subby, 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Sounds like you’ve ticked off your list already! What a transformation. You must be very proud of yourself. Turning your life around to that extent isn’t easy.

Catching up with old friends is another good one for me- I’ve really only been in proper contact with 4 or 5 friends throughout covid, there are a few others I need to check in with & hopefully see soon.

Well, I’ve ordered hair dye, so hopefully that one is being ticked off in the next few days. Super worried it’s going to go bright orange 😬 any tips?!

With Easter round the corner I’m not sure how manageable the chocolate one is right now - i think that one will have to be started fresh in May...

My project for the next month or so is to clear the garage, sooooo much junk in there and it’s stressing me out now. It will take a few days at least so may need to book some time off work, I feel weekends are about to get quite busy.

Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine today 😎🍹
