My amazing new post-covid life. Anyone joining?

MinnieMous3 · 30/03/2021 20:43

Sitting on my arse for a year in a house I hate in an area that depresses me has given me the kick up the bum to make some badly needed changes to my life. Some of them are mundane stuff, some life changing stuff, some trivial stuff!

Does anyone fancy joining before I embarrass myself by writing a sort of post-pandemic bucket list only for nobody to reply? Blush

Hoping we can keep in touch, check in around Christmas time and see how much of it we have ticked off...

At the beginning of the first lockdown I found out that 'D'H had been having an affair. I have chosen to work on the marriage through counselling etc, but I am also going to look after myself a bit more. I have friends, but I want to expand my circle a bit, so I have just joined a book club and also signed up to an interior design course. I am also doing a type of meditation in the evenings with my son, and I need to start exercising. This is the hardest for me as I don't stick to it. Good luck everyone

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/03/2021 09:14

Yes! I'm joining in.

I need to

  1. Lose weight and keep it off! At 5'4 and over 11st I am overweight.

  2. more tattoos. I'd like at least 2 more this year.

  3. Exercise. I don't have much time to go to the gym as a single parent but I can exercise at home.

  4. do as much socialising as possible with friends and family!

Notjustanymum · 31/03/2021 10:39

Thanks for this thread, OP, lockdown has been quite kind to me, but I think it’s time to rejoin the real world again!
I lost 1.5 stone last year, but put 0.5 back on since February (miserable weather!), so will go back on the diet. Goal is to lose another 5 or 6 stone (1at a time😉).
Continue with yoga daily.
Start riding bike 2-3 days a week
Go swimming as soon as pools nearby are open again.
Budget properly and start saving again
Negotiate with work to wfh most of the time once all restrictions are eased.

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 31/03/2021 10:40

I’ll join. I’ll post later when I’m back from work x

Member984815 · 31/03/2021 11:41

I moved precovid, lost 3 stone in lockdown . I want to do something to better myself been a stay at home parent a long time and feel I've properly hampered myself . Just don't know where to start

folloyourarro · 31/03/2021 13:11

Eeek following on from my previous post I just found out I've got an interview for the role I was most eager for! It's a head of department for a government dept, I'm so thrilled to have even got an interview!

Matilda2013 · 31/03/2021 13:19

@folloyourarro that's a good start! Well done 😁

Thank you 😊 April 12th

SimonJT · 31/03/2021 21:20

We have kind of done a years plan of things to do, some are personal goals, some are just fun things.

I think I can remember most of them.
-get married (april!)
-kit out our camper conversion
-run a marathon
-complete my next level in BSL
-have a big night out and get absolutely off my tree
-go to a music festival
-spend as many weekends as possible at grandmas
-learn Swedish (well start)
-start the adoption process for number 2 (this time next year)

QpopTYUIop9 · 31/03/2021 21:44

Love this thread - I need to think about my list - lots of what others have said (exercise and lose weight)

Itsalonghaul · 02/04/2021 07:29

So I am doing okay so far. Healthy food consumption going well, but I have been drinking wine because it is Easter, so maybe need to stop now for two days and save myself for Easter Sunday.

I have booked in the last of the house repairs, ordered festoon lights for my garden, and my last tip run is booked for Wednesday. I would have decluttered 15 years of stuff by then. Every single room is done. Two bedrooms to accessorise and the house is now ready for the summer.

So focus needs to remain on:

Healthy eating
Daily exercise no excuses
Course work completed
Putting together summer wardrobe over the weekend

Happy Easter everyone, we have some time now to get things done/finished or started :)

Lemons1571 · 02/04/2021 08:46

Lose even more weight. Have got rid of over 5 stone in 7 months, but still nearly 3 to go. I’m a bit addicted to eating so little now. Then emerge fabulous post pandemic and really progress my career.

MinnieMous3 · 02/04/2021 09:16

Some great progress being made! I can’t claim any myself, my eating has been bad this week - way too much chocolate and caffeine. Pointless tackling the chocolate before Easter so that one will have to wait.

Off to the coast for Easter - hoping to do my first sea swim 🥶 even if i just get my shoulders under...

Just hoping my house move goes through, everything will be so much easier to tackle once we are out of this tiny box!

Happy Easter everyone 🐥 🌱 🍫

Hello, OP.
We hope you don't mind but we're going to move your thread over to Chat now.
Happy Easter, all.

Needhelp101 · 02/04/2021 15:17

I love these threads too and am jumping in!

Mine are:

Alternate yoga/swimming/weights - one of these a day
Write two more books
Drastically reduce my drinking
I'm doing Denise Duffield-Thomas's Money Bootcamp for the second time (it really works, God knows how, but it does. I was doing brilliantly after my first time and then my life spectacularly fell apart and it all went wrong. Now I'm back on it and things are picking up again, thank God)
Continue with 15 mins of Italian a day through Duolingo (with a view to holidaying there when we finally can)
Continue to declutter and Ebay the house
Continue planting tons of stuff in the garden and the house

Needhelp101 · 02/04/2021 15:18

Oh, and lose a stone, obviously :)

I wish I could go sea swimming!

Dora4759 · 02/04/2021 15:49

*Attend counselling
*Finish writing the draft of book no.2
*Join at least 2 groups related to my hobbies/interests (currently don't belong to any groups even pre-covid and thinking of 3 groups I would like to try).
*Take up volunteering
*Get my low scale business off the ground
*More exercise - possibly swimming more often (wish I lived near to the sea for this too) but a local pool will have to do.
*Widen my social circle in general and hopefully make one or two lovely friends.
*Eventually...probably a few years down the line... I would like to return to college to study for an MA. Educational courses in general that are of interest to me not for the sake of a qualification.
*Try to discover more of the things that I might find fun.

MirandaWestsNewBFF · 02/04/2021 17:41

Yes! Love this and definitely joining in.

I kind of started the process already as I set up my business in lockdown, which has been a HUGE step towards living the life I want.

My list is:

  • getting back to a healthy weight - I lost half a stone in March and there’s loads more where that came from
  • learning about makeup and developing a new style that suits me - I’ve always been very low maintenance but I’m not happy with that look any more as I get older
  • getting the house totally redecorated and done up! This year I’m looking to redecorate the hall, stairs and landing, get the flooring redone throughout the downstairs and get my bathroom gutted and redone.
subbysammiexoxo · 03/04/2021 00:24

thanks for all the kind responses to my post on the first page, my new goals are to keep trying to loose weight, get my degree done and more importantly start travelling as soon as I can either solo or with friends etc

Confusedmeanderings · 03/04/2021 03:59

Progress so far:
Being organised - well I've set my digital bullet journal up but I haven't actually used it!
Better work routine - not yet!
Taking more care of myself - so I did manage to style my hair properly today and wore some earrings, does that count?

goldpendant · 03/04/2021 08:44

Apart from the house OP your list is almost identical to mine!

Great thread x

ilovebagpuss · 03/04/2021 09:42

This is fun, lovely to read everyone’s goals. Spring always makes me think of change and improvement although I don’t always do it! My list would be:
Get kids happier and confident again
Find another job (employers threw me to the wolves re Covid)
Decorate a few rooms
Loose a stone or 2 I am back on the 5:2 thread 1 pound down. It’s a very friendly chat if anyone wants to try 5:2
Travel (anywhere please)
Find an outlet to help others and volunteer somewhere locally.
Good luck Flowers

BookWorm45 · 03/04/2021 12:06

Love this thread, very timely as we move into spring and the country takes tentative steps to move away from full lockdown.
My list so far is:
Save / invest money for our future aims;
Improve social connections - build up new friendships, need to work out what groups etc I could join
Nutrition - eat only what my body needs , which is less now that I'm older
Exercise - aim for daily exercise as a routine I really want to do for myself and my body's strength / flexibility

Already down the path of tidying / decluttering whole house, we did a lot of that during the pandemic year.
