DPD are shit (again)

I'm so sick of DPD. If a retailer made it clear that they used DPD to deliver, I'd shop elsewhere.

Parcel due in a 1 hour time slot. Noticed about half an hour after the allotted time slot that the parcel hadn't arrived. Checked in the app, it said it had been delivered and there was a photo of the parcel sitting just inside a front door that looks nothing like my front door. DPD are investigating. The retailer are claiming that it is my responsibility to take it up with DPD - this isn't the case, I have a contract with the retailer, the retailer have a contract with DPD.

Enjoy the £100+ trainers dear parcel receiver (you could sell those trainers on eBay). Why else would you accept a delivery that isn't yours? Thankfully I paid on credit card and the pair of trainers are over £100, so I have got section 75 as an option.

I tried to buy a bag a few months ago. "Delivered by DPD" again. They took a photo of the middle of a random road and claimed they couldn't find my address. I live in the suburb of a city, on a standardly numbered road. The parcel ended up going back to the retailer and I got a refund.

DPD's job is to deliver parcels and they just don't seem to be able to deliver parcels. No other delivery company seems to have these problems 😠.

I had this with them before Christmas. they delivered an Iphone to a neighbour 3 door's away. Got a photo of unknown door etc.
After many calls back and forth they told me which house it went to and I had to go round and get it back. I was in the whole time so no idea why.

About a week later I got an iced biscuit in the post with the DPD logo on that had 'Sorry Sparkling' iced onto it. Shock

JayAlfredPrufrock · 30/03/2021 20:14

Always been great for me. Which is highly unusual as my postcode takes you to a completely different place.

Dugee · 30/03/2021 20:15

Did they tell you which neighbour they had delivered to? I don't mind going round and asking but I'm not walking the streets looking at the bottom of each door to see if it looks like the photo.

Yes they told me the house number. After a discussion about the garden having pink flowers. Hmm I did actually notice the flowers when going round but it was a long drive and they were near the door.

This picture is the same as the biscuit I got-

LazyYogi · 30/03/2021 20:19

I think it depends on the culture and staff at your local depot. DPD are great where we are.
Yodel and Hermes are shite.

My husband made up some big signs with arrows pointing towards the house that he hammers into the verge if we are expecting a DPD delivery.

Dugee · 30/03/2021 20:20

Thanks @Sparklingbrook

I'm wfh so was in. I actually moved downstairs and worked from the dining room today, so that I would miss the delivery (I know some ring once, give it about 5 seconds and then disappear, claiming you weren't in).

I'm not sure how much more clear ours could be. It's a road of semi detached houses and they are chronologically numbered. There are no roads with similar names nearby.

@Sparklingbrook

Did the parcel receiver explain why they had signed for a parcel that wasn't theirs?

DPD used to be fabulous here but since the start of 2021 they are now my most hated delivery company. We now get our deliveries from a different depot (double the distance away) and deliveries are invariably late (as in the next day or even 2 days later). Or, on the one occasion when they delivered on the day expected, we weren't in and they dumped £300 worth of stuff from ASOS on the front step in full view of the road. Despite the fact I'd completed the form and asked for them to use the back door. I hate them.

No. I don't know the neighbour at all. I rang the bell and asked if they had a parcel for my house number and they gave it straight to me.
We do take parcels in for each other up this street so I would imagine she would assume we were out and was doing us a favour.
I have no idea when she would have brought it round if I hadn't knocked.

MadeForThis · 30/03/2021 20:33

I worked in retail and once had a customer come in as a dpd parcel hadn't arrived. I phoned dpd and was given a mobile number for the driver that had the parcel. When I phoned the driver she said that she had went home early but as she lived close I could come to her house and pick up the parcel.

Unbelievable. But unfortunately true.

It's the Warrington depot in this case.

Well I went round to 4 of my neighbours about an hour ago. None of them have my parcel, so god knows where it is,

I wonder if DPD have trackers on their vans and will be able to work out where their driver dumped my parcel.

I was expecting a DPD parcel to be delivered at work. There were people there from 8-6 that day but nothing was delivered. Imagine my surprise when I looked up the tracking and it showed a photo of our building plus the car of someone who had left a year earlier. I suspect they hadn't been anywhere near us let alone attempted delivery, probably got the photo from Streetview. They did deliver it the next day.

LolaNova · 30/03/2021 22:12

The parcel I was meant to get today hasn’t show up. Had an email last night saying that they had it and I’d get a text with a time slot this morning for delivery today. Still waiting for the text.

Bluntness100 · 30/03/2021 22:16

Did you actually speak to dpd? When this happened to me once, it was an iPhone 11 that went awol. They used their trackers and could see rhe driver had not been near the property, Dpd claimed under their insurance, the retailer was refunded and I was sent a new parcel.

In addition during the investigations the police were brought in and the driver suspended. Dpd were on it properly hard.

So if you’ve not called them, call them, as they know exactly where their drivers have been.

On a seperate note did you post on your local face book a pic of the door it was delivered to?

Becca19962014 · 30/03/2021 22:21

My parcel last month was handed to my "neighbour". 56 miles away from where I live. Didn't stop them and Amazon asking me to check with my neighbours to see who had it Hmm in the end I got through to someone who I got to look at the order and they agreed. They said they would put in a complaint with DPD and, actually did. I got another one, not sent via DPD (says a lot) and for free with postage.

I had one demand access to deliver parcel in building - despite a shielding notice on the door which he said didn't matter. I shut the door, though I should have done so much sooner than I did.

MadisonAvenue · 30/03/2021 22:23

I’ve always found DPD to be reliable (hope that’s not now going to be a case of famous last words) but our usual DPD driver is so bloody miserable. We used to have a lovely one who always had a quick chat but now we’ve got this sour faced one who just grunts at you.

LoveFall · 30/03/2021 22:25

Funnily enough, I ordered Easter chocolates for our English family (from Canada) and just got a message saying DPD ran into problems with the delivery. I am pretty sure they were home. I hope it gets delivered!

CandidaDoyle · 30/03/2021 22:31

I think it depends on your local depot. I'm always happy to order if I know it will be delivered by DPD - our local driver Mitch is a proper grafter and I also relax when I get a notification to say he's delivering.

TNT on the other hand.... the retailer may as well just chuck my order in the nearest dustbin - it will save the endless calls to TNT to find the parcel later on.

Good luck tracking down your trainers

Dugee · 30/03/2021 23:25

I'm going back to the retailer tomorrow to inform them that I'm going to claim a charge back / section 75 from my bank.

My contract is with the retailer, the retailer subcontracts to DPD (the contract between the retailer and DPD isn't my issue).
