DPD are shit (again)

I'm so sick of DPD. If a retailer made it clear that they used DPD to deliver, I'd shop elsewhere.

Parcel due in a 1 hour time slot. Noticed about half an hour after the allotted time slot that the parcel hadn't arrived. Checked in the app, it said it had been delivered and there was a photo of the parcel sitting just inside a front door that looks nothing like my front door. DPD are investigating. The retailer are claiming that it is my responsibility to take it up with DPD - this isn't the case, I have a contract with the retailer, the retailer have a contract with DPD.

Enjoy the £100+ trainers dear parcel receiver (you could sell those trainers on eBay). Why else would you accept a delivery that isn't yours? Thankfully I paid on credit card and the pair of trainers are over £100, so I have got section 75 as an option.

I tried to buy a bag a few months ago. "Delivered by DPD" again. They took a photo of the middle of a random road and claimed they couldn't find my address. I live in the suburb of a city, on a standardly numbered road. The parcel ended up going back to the retailer and I got a refund.

DPD's job is to deliver parcels and they just don't seem to be able to deliver parcels. No other delivery company seems to have these problems 😠.

Sounds like youll be successful.
They can chase with DPD and get their money back from them. No one should during lockdown be told to go around neighbours anyway.

It's a hassle though. DPD are a professional parcel delivery firm. They should be able to deliver a parcel to a house that is clearly numbered, in a city suburb (sat nav gets you to our road with the post code, all the driver had to do was read the numbers on the doors).

It is a hassle I know I've been through it.

But really it's worth it, the more who do so and pressure for refunds the more these companies will need to do their jobs properly. I live rurally but there's no excuse because I always put delivery instructions on my parcels.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 31/03/2021 02:05

Our local DPD delivery driver is absolutely fab. It's Hermes that are an utter joke where we live. We had a parcel delivered by them recently, the guy knocked on the door and within a minute he was chucking it into my garden waste dustbin.. that was full of grass! Shit him up when I opened the door and shouted HI! 😁 even funnier when he then had to fish it out of the bin, brush away the grass and hand it to me. Lol.

Bluntness100 · 31/03/2021 09:15

I honestly don’t know why you don’t just call dpd.

BarbaraofSeville · 31/03/2021 09:26

I wonder if DPD have trackers on their vans and will be able to work out where their driver dumped my parcel

Don't know about the vans, but if the driver has location data enabled on their phone, that will show where the photo was taken, I thought that was the whole point of their 'taking a photo as proof of delivery' - an easy, hopefully reliable way of proving where and when the parcel was left, should there be any issues. Ask them for that information.

We've always had great service from DPD (and Yodel and My Hermes as it happens). Deliver on time and all the drivers are lovely. UPS and DHL not so much.

Spied · 31/03/2021 09:31

@Bluntness100

£6.00 a minute is one reason I'll never call againShock.

They are absolute rubbish ***

Dugee · 31/03/2021 12:53

@Bluntness100

Because my contract is with the retailer. The retailer need to understand that they will lose money if they don't start insisting on better service for their customers from the delivery firms they subcontract to.

bitheby · 31/03/2021 12:59

DPD are very reliable where I live. The app is really good. They do have trackers on the vans because I am expecting a delivery and I can see where the van is via the app. It shouldn't be too hard for them to work it out.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 31/03/2021 14:49

Our local DPD guy (Daniel) is really good, always says hello, Here it’s Yodel who are rubbish, Hermes ok.
DH used to work logistics and his nickname for DHL was “drop it, hide it or lose it” Grin
The worst we had was Parcelforce who were delivering a bike... they sent an email to say it had been delivered, I was here and it most definitely had not been delivered and signed for. There was a picture of a signature so I traipsed round all the neighbours but no sign of said bicycle. On closer examination the signature was my husbands name but definitely not his signature. Turns out after a lot of phone calls, incl to the retailer who got on their case too, Parcelforce guy had decided to go back to depot, and had himself signed for any parcels left on his round Shock. Another logistics guy DH knows said this was not uncommon for Parcelforce.

Aloethere · 31/03/2021 14:57

What has the retailer said about it? If they are refusing to deal with it then yes go for a chargeback but most retailers will look into it for you. I have an online business and have been through every method of postage, something goes wrong no matter who you do it with. There is no such thing as 100% reliability. I always offer a refund or to send again asap. What I hate is when customers start off seriously angry and aggressive without seeing what I will do to rectify the situation first. Shit happens.

purplecorkheart · 31/03/2021 14:59

Dpd here just ring the doorbell here and leave the parcel so to be fair the person who has it may not have done anything wrong.

The picture was of an open front door with the parcel just inside. I'm not aware of anyone who leaves their door open here. It's not rough but it is a suburb of a city.

They told me it was my responsibility to chase it up with DPD.

I didn't start off arsey, I just sent the screenshot of the DPD app and said "DPD are claiming to have delivered this parcel but I don't have it. This is the photo on their app and it isn't my front door - my door is a different colour. Can you look into this and advise when I will get my parcel please?" I got an almost immediate response saying it was my responsibility to chase it up. That's when I went back and pointed out that my contract was with them and their contract is with DPD. I emailed again this morning and said if I don't have the parcel in 48 hours I will start a section 75 claim with my bank.

I'm so lucky where I am now, as every driver has been fantastic this last year - not a single AWOL delivery.

When I lived in Portsmouth, however, I had SO many run-ins with Hermes out was unreal. Now, our local Hermes chap is brilliant and I have more faith in them!!

His predecessor however, dumped a valuable jewellery parcel to my neighbour - blatantly on purpose - and it had a huge rip in the box and the jewellery stolen. The internal packaging had been ripped and the bangle removed. No way was that an accident. And no way was it my lovely neighbour. The jewellery company blatantly thought I had made it up, but not my problem. Hermes denied all responsibility and tried to blame the neighbours. Grrrr.

BitchIAmFromChicago · 31/03/2021 15:21

Have you got a local Facebook group? We seem to have a lot of posts on ours with these kind of images to see whether anyone recognises the front door etc...

Tiredmumno1 · 31/03/2021 15:27

Try to google your DPD local depot phone number and ask them to check the geotag. They will know exactly where that parcel was delivered to, they just like to be difficult sometimes.

DuggeeHugPlease · 31/03/2021 15:28

I much prefer DPD to other couriers and haven't had any issues.

But on your point about the delivery it's easy to happen in covid times. They put the parcel down on the step and you don't sign anything. At the moment I take a step back while they take the photo so wouldn't actually pick it up and look at the name until they'd left.
I wouldn't automatically assume they've deliberately tried to steal your parcel.

sqirrelfriends · 31/03/2021 15:31

DPD are great here, it's Hermes and Amazon who you have to watch out for.

Hermes will just dump stuff outside a seemingly random door and Amazon have a habit of losing things, an Amazon driver was recently fired for theft -they were opening the parcels and stealing contents before delivery. A few people tried to refuse the delivery but he wouldn't let them. I also had a designer bag mysteriously disappeared while out on delivery. Luckily there was no come back on me and they sent a new one.

allgoodinthehood · 31/03/2021 17:43

Well think yourself lucky . DPD delivered a parcel and consequently hit TWO cars that were parked up . Several witnesses and photos to show damage. DPD deny all responsibility and say they are not doing anything with out CCTV footage . Also deny any damage to their van even though photos prove otherwise.
Police report made and going to fight it . DPD is the most atrocious despicable delivery firm and totally boycotted from now on .

JemimaTab · 31/03/2021 18:23

I’d echo what some other people have said - I think it depends on your local depot and delivery people. Where I am, DPD are reliable but Hermes are atrocious. Hermes have recently lost some items I ordered - I went to the retailer who replaced the items without question. These days I do check which courier a retailer uses, because Hermes are really not worth the hassle.

Bluntness100 · 31/03/2021 18:27

Honestly I’ve no idea why you’re taking such a moral stance on this and trying to teach the retailer a lesson. Honestly if you’d just picked up the phone to Dpd this would have been sorted.

But crack on if this is the hill you want to die on . Confused

Becca19962014 · 31/03/2021 20:12

DPD didn't help me, when they bothered to answer. They simply told me to pop along to "all my neighbours" to get my parcel which was delivered 56 miles away - even rurally that's a lot of neighbours. They told me that as its the next big town that's what they class as neighbours. I tried treating them like they were idiots with idiot proof evidence after finding an email but no still demanding I went and got it. Not their fault I live rurally...

In the end I did a webchat and provided screen shots of all details with amazon acting like they were thick as a stack of bricks making sure I repeated "I know it's not your fault but you did give them my parcel" loads of times. Took almost an hour but eventually they got the point. DPD never did.

I got a full refund and free product and, only then did DPD want to help having been told they wouldn't be used in the area again - too late. They had their chance to resolve and refused. All over our local Facebook they just dump parcels wherever, this county, next county ..

Even living as I do in the middle of nowhere it's no excuse - I'm very aware of difficulties delivering to my address so I always give extra notes and when I know who has my parcel phone to ensure they have them. Sometimes delivery companies need to see consequences to taking products from customers, in both cases it happened to me they were expensive products that were stolen, totally almost £500 plus postage, one was irreplaceable.

Nothing has been delivered where I live with DPD by Amazon since.

its not all DPD drivers I'm sure but ours is beyond useless

Dugee · 01/04/2021 07:42

Just picked up the phone to DPD? It isnt just a case of picking up the phone though is it, I've tried before. It involves hours on the phone with them denying any responsibility for their actions.

On the other hand, a section 75 / chargeback claim via my bank is really easy to do. Plus I'm guaranteed a refund in this case, as I have all the necessary evidence. Honestly, I have no idea why you you would refer to that as a hill to die on.

For me it was as simole as just picking up the phone. Anyway you’re clear you don’t want to even try so fair enough.
