Needing some company while I wait for call back from Out of Hours.

I have had diarrhea for over a week. It has had points of getting better but has been every 30 minutes or so tonight and can’t get much sleep. I am struggling to drink enough water, as I have a burning sensation in my throat when I swollow. I am currently on antibiotics and am feeling really panicked by how much mucus there has been the last few times when I went to the toilet.

Have you had a Covid test? Covid can often start with these symptoms.

GoodNewsAhead · 30/03/2021 02:20

No COVID test but also do not have a temperature, haven’t mixed and have had a first vaccination.

Out of hours has just called. They said to stop taking the antibiotics and drink fluids. But am really struggling to get them in as feel like I am choaking when I eat or drink.

In the past 2 weeks, I have very similar symptoms in relation to the choking with mucous. I woke up this morning literally choking on the mucous. It was at the back of my nose and I couldn't breathe as I was coughing through my mouth. It's freaking my out. I have had negative tests for covid any time tested. I'm snorting like a ShihTsu. Those little dogs with indented noses. It's like I'm completely and utterly bunged up. Nothing wrong with bloods! I'm completely fine apparently. Except I'm fucking not.

Have you tried a daily antihistamine?
ismiseeire · 30/03/2021 02:58

Have you tried a daily antihistamine? I'm already prescribed one.

ismiseeire · 30/03/2021 03:00

My stomach is also on fire and I can only stomach a bite of toast a day for example. It's bloody ridiculous. I'm on stomach tablets twice a day and I just seem to be getting worse regardless!

Nat6999 · 30/03/2021 03:07

Goodnewsahead if you have only just had the vaccine it could be a side effect, it is listed in the booklet.

GoodNewsAhead · 30/03/2021 03:11

Sorry to hear you are struggling. Has your antihystamine helped atall.

I haven’t got any mucus in my throat it almost feels burnt and like its too narrow to swollow anything. I eventually mannage really well chewed food which can make me cough.

I had the vaccine 2 weeks ago. However, have been having a difficult time since with aciclovir for cold sores for a week and then ABS for a week.

OP posts:
GoodNewsAhead · 30/03/2021 03:31

Does anyone know what counts as seveer diarrhea after taking ABS. I am going to the toilet every 30 minutes to an hour and is very watery with mucus.Out of Hours nurse has said to take imodium but looking at the packet it says not to take with seveer D while on Abs. Unsure whether now to take it and if I should trust any of the advice. The nurse deffinately new I am on Abs as said to stop taking them.

OP posts:
Nat6999 · 30/03/2021 03:41

It sounds like you could be sensitive or allergic to the abs, have you got any probiotics? The abs could have killed the good bacteria in your gut & that may be part of the diarrhoea.

AlexaStop · 30/03/2021 03:55

Would it be worth handing a sample in to GP? I had similar after a bit of travelling and it was cryptosporidium. Lasted a few weeks. Nasty bug! Get well soon

cultkid · 30/03/2021 03:59

I was sooo sick with anti biotics this time last year

I would be taking some Imodium and I would also ask for anti emetics to stop you being sick

I was really bed bound and had that mucus like you

I thought I was going to die

The anti emetics plus Imodium plus pain killers meant I could rest

GoodNewsAhead · 30/03/2021 04:00

I haven’t got any probiotics but have been eating bio yogurt between doses.

I am a bit worried that everything Out of Hours have said goes against the NHS link on Diarrhea. For example I have been told to take imodium and it says not to take with seveer D caused by Abs. She said not to eat but it looks like it reccomends the sorts of foods I have been trying to eat E.G. chicken noodle soup, bananas, rice and bio yogurt. I was told to use flat coak in place of diorilite but the NHS guide says to use an oral rehydration solution. I said I am only weeing a couple of times a day with very dark small amounts and she said if you are weeing at all you are not dehydrated. Really concerned that I have been given bad advice and there is something more going on.

cultkid · 30/03/2021 04:02

That's shit advice

Can someone bring you to a&
I needed a drip when I was sick from the anti biotics and infection

GoodNewsAhead · 30/03/2021 04:04

Sorry to hear you felt so ill last year. I felt dramatic saying so but genuinely do feel like all my insides are going to come out with the diarrhea. Was your DR happy for you to take imodium while having abs from the diarrhea.

OP posts:
cultkid · 30/03/2021 04:07

Yes but I had a big checkup in the night at the hospital

The anti emetics made a huge difference

cultkid · 30/03/2021 04:08

I also got swapped over from some penicillin antibiotic to that really awful one they give to people I can't remember the name but it's not the one you're taking

I had to have three lots of anti biotics

I wonder if you're sick from the infection

GoodNewsAhead · 30/03/2021 04:16

Thanks @cultkid It will be difficult to get to A&E as DH can’t really take me while the kids are asleep. I would also feel a bit of a fraud given Out of Hours said to leave things. Did you go to A&E yourself or did someone refer you? Glad you are better now.

OP posts:
cultkid · 30/03/2021 06:54

I was referred to the ooh GP clinic at the hospital via 111 but they wanted me to go to a&e

As I hadn't been drinking or eating

JJSS123 · 30/03/2021 09:29

I was admitted to hospital last week with severe dehydration pregnant not ill, I was still just about weeing and I needed two bags of fluids and anti sickness through IV.

Don’t listen to that advice about your urine. Can you speak to your doctor today?

GoodNewsAhead · 30/03/2021 09:56

I wasn’t able to get a GP call as the next available appointment is a week away.

I am trying to speak to the walk in but they are not picking up the phone.

Hope you are feeling better.

OP posts:
JJSS123 · 30/03/2021 10:08

I’d go to a&e. This isn’t something that can wait a week! It can make you very poorly very quickly dehydration Is more serious than people think!! Please push for some help
