Could you ring the doctors and ask to drop a urine sample off to be tested? It’s only a dip stick test but should be able to tell them where your body is at if you need any hydration treatment. But personally I’d go to a&e. This isn’t a 24 hour thing you should be able to get help

Cheeeeislifenow · 30/03/2021 10:20

You are receiving terrible service. You sound very worried and equally sensible. You know you have a valid reason to go to a and e. Definitely go and put your mind at ease

TinaYouFatLard · 30/03/2021 10:20

I’ve recently been discharged from hospital after antibiotics caused some internal bleeding, signified by severe, very dark diarrhoea. I didn’t know how serious it was.

By the time I got to hospital my haemoglobin was 55 (usually 135). I was put in a crash room and ended up having three blood transfusions over the. Next few days. I’ve never felt so ill.

Go and get checked out.

Tigerchips · 30/03/2021 10:22

Just go to A&E

Tigerchips · 30/03/2021 10:23

As for not being able to wake children up during a medical emergency.....why not?!

Christ, go and get seen.

GoodNewsAhead · 30/03/2021 12:12

Thanks all.
I asked the receptionisst if they could test a sample and said they could only do this with a GP say so which required an appointment which they didn’t have.I have jusst had a sleep but am going to try calling the Walk in Again.

I don’t think I am that dehydrated right now but if things don’t improve will obviously get there. I suppose I didn’t want to wake the children when OoH had said that it could be mannaged at home. Obviously if someone was seveerely injured or really sick would either wake them or ask a neighbour to sit in with them.

Finally got through to the walk in and they will be giving me a call back. I hope they can arrange for a sample to be tested.

Good news op!

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 30/03/2021 14:26

I had that when taking anti biotic for an infection.

They can really hurt your stomach.

I stopped taking the anti biopics straight away and concentrated on small
Sips of coke or lemonade and after a couple of hours I then took Imodium.

I still had the runs to start with but within about 6 hours it had passed through.

I was out on different anti bio tics and was fine

GoodNewsAhead · 30/03/2021 15:40

Just spoken to the walk in and have anappointment at 5:20

Oh god they gave me a right shock the other day. Yes they can seriously upset you but there are non penicillin alternatives. I'm now on Amoxicillin. Hope you get on ok
JJSS123 · 30/03/2021 16:56

Good luck op pleased you are going to be seen! Let us know

GoodNewsAhead · 30/03/2021 19:18

Back from the walk in. They have said to get the GP to test a sample. I had ketones in urine but all other obs were fine.

OP posts:
wtfisgoingonhere21 · 30/03/2021 19:22

Did they also advise you to stop taking the anti biopics?

ismiseeire · 30/03/2021 19:28

Is it erythromycin that you're taking?

GoodNewsAhead · 30/03/2021 19:29

I finished the abs at lunchtime

ismiseeire · 30/03/2021 19:29

Will you easily be able to get a GP appointment? This is the problem with the OOH doctors. They can't actually do much.

ismiseeire · 30/03/2021 19:30

Oh I do hope stopping them will mean the end of the diarrhoea.
JJSS123 · 30/03/2021 21:04

I’m so sorry for the lack of care and pushing from pillow to post that you have received!! My ketones in my urine were 4+ and I was admitted on that. Not sure if this is different in pregnancy. How are you feeling tonight? You need to ring the doctors in the morning and tell them you have been to out of hours you have ketones in your urine and you absolutely must be seen tomorrow for an emergency app. Unfortunately you can’t plan when you need emergency appointments two weeks in advance! Hope you get some rest

GoodNewsAhead · 31/03/2021 02:06

Thanks all. Have just had a good block of sleep so am feeling better but its still really loose when i go.

I plan to ask if i can drop off a sample as the walk in has asked for them to dip urine and do a culture.

OP posts:
GoodNewsAhead · 01/04/2021 02:20

Up again with stomach problems. I am hoping my GP dip’s tested the urine and stool sample i sent in yesterday, as after advising that i took one they have said i can’t test it as claimed not to receive anything from the Walk in.

Not sure how much longer i can cope at home but really don’t want to be sitting arround in A&E without access to my toilet, with something possibly infectious, if the GP could do tests. I wish i knew what the ketones were like to see if the little bit more i have eaten and drunk is sending things the right way.

TaraR2020 · 01/04/2021 02:28

Oh op how horrible for you.

If you haven't yet tried rehydration salts then pleasd do so, once you're dehydrated you need to correct the balance of salt and water in your body and if you don't it can become a vicious circle. You can speak to pharmacist for advice when you're picking them up.

I hope you've had some clarity of immodium use now too and able to take it.

The advice of not eating will be to give your insides a rest and a chance to heal if the diarrhoea has roughed them up a bit. You'll start to feel more human once youre on top of hydration again. Flowers

ismiseeire · 01/04/2021 02:33

Don't be a martyr. Just go to A&E. I got a telling off from an A&E doctor for not having rang my GP (lol) days before I got to the point of being severely dehydrated. You can't get through to my GP!

ismiseeire · 01/04/2021 02:37

At this point, I would say that your potassium and magnesium and sodium are all a bit fucked. Diarrhoea affects some and vomiting affects others (electrolytes) - I know that you're not vomiting, but diarrhoea alone can clean you out of everything. You won't necessarily require admission, but you will at least require some fluids with electrolytes while in an A&E cublicle. So just a drip. Assuming your bloods are fine otherwise.

How are you actually feeling apart from the diarrhoea? Are you in any pain? Are you feeling weak?

garlictwist · 01/04/2021 02:46

Husbands colleague has had severe diahrrea this week and he went to a&e and they put him on a drip due to dehydration.

I understand you not wanting to go though. It sounds awful, I hope you feel better soon.
