If you can drive and have a car, when did you last use public transport?

I haven't used any form of public transport for 7 years. What about you?

About 18 months ago when I went to the dentist. Driving in town is a nightmare so I use park and ride. Waiting till I'm vaccinated to go back!

noblegreenk · 25/03/2021 00:23

Last summer, when the restrictions eased, DH and I got the bus to go for a meal and drinks. It was the first time I'd been on a bus in 5 years!

ChocOrange1 · 25/03/2021 04:58

I used to take the kids on the park and ride sometimes, to visit one of the larger towns nearby. Last time would have been Nov/Dec 2019 when we went to look at the Christmas lights display there.

Bargebill19 · 25/03/2021 05:24

6 years ago. Then we moved to an area with no public transport. As we would have to drive out of the way we want to go to even get to public transport and it’s very expensive - the cars will be staying.
Also no public transport to work at the times we would need. - night shift.

Before Covid I regularly got the train at weekends rather than drive, usually with my bike to do a linear bike ride and get the train back from somewhere else.

I cycle and walk short distances rather than driving as I find diving really tedious. However I never get the bus as so slow it's quicker to walk!

Train to London quite a few times per year : to go to a London hospital for medical appointments, lunch with friends, see a show.

Woeismethischristmas · 25/03/2021 05:57

Went on a train about 5 years ago. Sounds awful but am v rural and don’t go anywhere.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 25/03/2021 06:02

All the time.
Friday last week was the most recent, but usually 5 or 6 days a week. Love in London.

TartanCurtains · 25/03/2021 06:04

Yesterday. I use the train and tube Mon to Fri.

Leaving aside the horrible reasons for them being quiet, commuting into London at the moment is a dream. Although tubes around 7am are stupidly busy, but quiet at most other times.

WhentheDealGoesDown · 25/03/2021 06:10

When we went to see the Olympic Games in 2012, we still drove to the railway station though.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 25/03/2021 06:13

February 2020, train to london to see dd

eurochick · 25/03/2021 06:15

About four months ago, when I needed to go into the office. Pre-COVID every week day to commute in and out of London.

MiaMc · 25/03/2021 06:20

Last week. Been going into work couple of days a week since summer. But due to the pandemic sometimes I do drive. Wouldn’t usually in normal times though.

Iggly · 25/03/2021 06:21

January 2021.

I commute into London - pretty standard where I live.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 25/03/2021 06:21

A couple of years ago and that was a train to London for a day out.

TroysMammy · 25/03/2021 06:22

A bus about 5 years ago when we had snow. The main route was clear but it was impossible to get my car out of my estate. That cost me about £5 for a 2 1/2 mile each way journey.

RumHoney · 25/03/2021 06:22

Last march. When I'm in the office I usually cycle to work but tended to get public transport once a week or so (if I needed a rest day or if I had a post work event with alcohol).

Heatherjayne1972 · 25/03/2021 07:47

Jan 2020
Was on a date Didn’t want the person to see my car numberplate so took the bus

AuntieMarys · 25/03/2021 07:50

I haven't got a bus in about 20 years. I use the train sometimes.

TeenMinusTests · 25/03/2021 07:52

Trains, occasionally. e.g. to London every couple of years, sometimes to our nearest city for the fun of it or so DC can practice.

Buses? Hardly ever in my whole life, and never near me. In Edinburgh as they're so good, plus a few other times, that's it.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 25/03/2021 07:59

About two years ago. I used to zip around town on buses where we were living at the time as my husband had the car on week days.

LemonRoses · 25/03/2021 08:03

No buses near here, but I used to travel by train frequently for work. Lockdown stopped that, but I suspect to restart soonish.

Sometimes we use buses when we’re at our cottage, there are frequent buses from about 500yds away. We walk along coast path or to pretty villages etc, have lunch somewhere and catch the bus back. It means we can go further afield. We rarely use the car. I guess getting to the island is by ferry, so public transport too. The children and other visitors use passenger ferry and island train rather than bringing another car across sometimes.

In the Lakes we walk from the house and use the launch to drop us around to different places. We tend to avoid using the car all week.

MangoM · 25/03/2021 08:04

Last week when I took the train into the city for my covid jab Smile

Pre covid I travelled to work daily by train and the car was only used at weekends

LemonRoses · 25/03/2021 08:05

We use park and ride when visiting places like Oxford too. Much easier than finding a space in city centre.

HowAboutAH0tCupOfShutTheHellUp · 25/03/2021 09:25

I drove to the train station and took the train to London a couple of weeks ago. Pre covid I did that four days a week.
