If you can drive and have a car, when did you last use public transport?

I haven't used any form of public transport for 7 years. What about you?

Pre covid I used it all the time. I think I got a bus in October?

Bananaman123 · 24/03/2021 20:05

Park and ride Christmas eve

stuckinarutatwork · 24/03/2021 20:08

Pre Covid, I used it quite often. I would often catch the bus or train into the city to go shopping as it's cheaper and less hassle than trying to find (and pay for) a parking space. I quite like relaxing reading a book on the way there and back too.

About 21 months ago, on holiday in Italy.

I take it planes aren't being counted?

On a train right now. I get a train and bus each way to work. Takes about 50 minutes. If I were to drive to work I would have a 40 minute drive through London maybe more if traffic (zone 6 to zone 2) and then have to find parking near a hospital which would cost a fortune or down a side street a fair walk away. Much prefer my commute. I can read or just flick through my phone.

AngieBolen · 24/03/2021 20:11

When I went to London last autumn.

CompleteBarstool · 24/03/2021 20:13

Just over a year ago when I met up with DD in London for the weekend.

I probably (pre-Covid) only get a train a few times a year and buses about once every few years

SocraticJunkieWannabe · 24/03/2021 20:14

Last week

RunHobbitRun · 24/03/2021 20:15

I used to commute by train. Honestly can't imagine being happy commuting that way anymore so looking at self propelled commuting if I have to visit the office in the future. We currently live an hour from the office for walking so could be possible if I plan things right.

PurpleFadesToGreen · 24/03/2021 20:16

Beginning of March 2021, into London for a hospital appt.

Previous time would be for the same reason a year ago.

Erm, possibly a bus in between after dropping car at mechanics, but I think I used uber, can not remember.

BogRollBOGOF · 24/03/2021 20:17

Feb 2020. Did a weekend in Manchester by train and buses. My suburb is OK for buses if I want to go to town, but I tend to drive to a park and walk the last mile for free. Anything else needs driving.

Before the DCs were chargable for bus fare and when we had more time to fill, I'd use the bus for the fun of it. I also found the local bus useful when I had SPD and couldn't move my hip to walk up hills.

Smartiepants79 · 24/03/2021 20:17

Pre- COVID? Used to still get the train fairly often and often used the park and ride facilities in various places.
Taking the car is not always the easiest option.

dinosforall · 24/03/2021 20:17

About six weeks ago when I got the bus into town to go to the optician.

LegendDairy · 24/03/2021 20:18

About a month ago. But I've just bought a car last week so it won't be a while till the next time I'm on public transport.

Pearbear · 24/03/2021 20:18

Probably about 2 years ago. My car needed a repair and so got a lift into town to meet a friend at the cinema and we got the bus home. I can still remember the shock of paying £5 for a ticket and it taking over an hour to get home when driving would of been 10 minutes

HemlockStarglimmer · 24/03/2021 20:19

Two weeks ago to pick my car up after being serviced.

Before March 2020 I would use the bus to get to and from work as parking was too difficult.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 24/03/2021 20:20

Today, because I live in London and there is not a snowball's chance in hell that I would commute by car.

shinynewapple21 · 24/03/2021 20:21

Pre-Covid I would take public transport if I was going into the City Centre or if I was travelling alone somewhere more than an hour or so drive away as I don't enjoy driving . Also some times if I was meeting friends for a drink.

folloyourarro · 24/03/2021 20:21

Only time I use public transport is when going on the train to London for work (occasionally, not based there). Drive everywhere else, drive to London when I go for leisure. Oh will get the train to Cambridge too actually because the A14 is a bitch and Cambridge parking is extortionate.

lurker101 · 24/03/2021 20:22

Friday, I haven’t driven since January though. Much prefer public transport

RedRosie · 24/03/2021 20:22

Today and every working day (train) as although I have a car, I live and work in central London and no parking is available at work.

It's fine. V quiet still.

Megan2018 · 24/03/2021 20:24

I think I used a train around June 2019 for work. I genuinely have no idea when I last did a bus, 2013 on holiday possibly.
Tube a few times a year.

megletthesecond · 24/03/2021 20:25

I'd get the train to London every other month pre-pandemic.
Don't use the car much though even in normal times. Usually walk everywhere because we live in the town centre.

Gerla · 24/03/2021 20:27

Yesterday. I take the bus far more than I use my car which I haven't used in months.

Onedaysomedaynowadays · 24/03/2021 20:28

Everyday. We have a car because of DHs job but I drive v rarely
