I've just watched Mums List. Proper sobbing watching it and I don't even have children.

Eight Below, Haachi and Marley & Me are sad too.

Ah, @EvilOnion had a similar view to mine.

I've noticed a massive trend in the names of movies that have been suggested so far. They were based on actual events.
So seeing how awful humans are to fellow humans upsets us. I think then we should try to be nicer to each other. See how that goes Smile

The Normal Heart is absolutely devastating. I knew it would be sad because it's about the Aids epidemic, but dear God, I did not expect to watch it and be sobbing inconsolably on the sofa.

Bramshott · 22/03/2021 14:19

A.I. Artificial Intelligence

Watched it pre-kids, and have never dared to watch it again since having them!

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 22/03/2021 14:22

Truly Madly Deeply - absolutely bawled through this.

Life is Beautiful - omfg an amazing film but it broke me. Everyone should watch it, it's a fantastic but very sad film!

plumpuddisnice · 22/03/2021 14:22

Amistad - the scene where the slaves were in the ship, shackled. They lost their lives and drowned. Sobbed for my ancestors.

SedentaryCat · 22/03/2021 14:23

The one that really got me was The Bridges of Madison County. Watched it once and don't think I could cope with watching it again...I was a mess.

StellaKowalski · 22/03/2021 14:25

The Pianist.

So heartbreaking, but an amazing film nonetheless.

EvilOnion · 22/03/2021 14:26

@Littlefluffyclouds13 I forgot about Life is Beautiful! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when his Dad jokes about, making the camp into a game.

IseeScottishhills · 22/03/2021 14:28

Shooting Dogs (about the Rwandan genocide forget Hotel Rwanda this is really grim) even my usually unmoved DH cried and Into The Wild.

StormBaby · 22/03/2021 14:31

If you can deal with how bizarre the film is, it’s heartbreaking at the end. Only film I’ve ever been open mouthed in shock at...Dancer in the Dark.

It's just heartbreaking isn't it? I was an absolute wreck by the end of it!!

Spudbyanyothername · 22/03/2021 14:34

Dear Zachary

MabelPines · 22/03/2021 14:37

Bramshott

I only saw AI for the first time recently, don’t watch it again post kids, it’s heartbreaking!!

I’m actually welling up thinking of him waiting for the blue fairy and the one perfect day with his mum.

Sometimes we really need to just enjoy how much our kids love us.

Whengodwasarabbit · 22/03/2021 14:45

Land of mine. 😢

DareIask · 22/03/2021 14:51

After the Promise

Cried so much my work colleagues asked about my swollen eyes the next morning Blush

PeanuttyButter · 22/03/2021 14:58

Promising young woman

Really powerful movie that I find really difficult to describe to people but it really affected me. I felt for this woman so much.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 22/03/2021 15:01

Agree with a lot of previously suggested. Some I've never heard of.
Would add "The Magdalene Sisters". Absolutely brutal - again, it's based on real events.

greycloudysky · 22/03/2021 15:01

I watched Schindler's List in the cinema and blubbed all the way through it. It was really embarrassing. Did the same with Breaking the Waves.

Sobbed during the English Patient as well.

fizbosshoes · 22/03/2021 15:02

I found Life is Beautiful sad before I had kids but more heartbreaking watching it again after having kids.

SongSilkTrainspot · 22/03/2021 15:04

Manchester by the sea. Horrifically sad.

zeeboo · 22/03/2021 15:06

Dead Man Walking just shattered me. I sat on the sofa and sobbed for over half an hour afterwards. Just Mercy was similarly powerful but no film has ever affected me like DMW.

Minikievs · 22/03/2021 15:07

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.
I was pregnant when I watched it, so possibly hormonal, but I was absolutely distraught.

Sleepers. Really good film. It's popped up recently on Netflix but I can't bring myself to watch it again.

RhubarbTea · 22/03/2021 15:10

@Wearywithteens

Brokeback Mountain - stayed with me for a long time.
This. Even hearing the soundtrack makes me cry. I will never forget that film.

Another vote for Stepmom and The Pianist.

RhubarbTea · 22/03/2021 15:12

Oh gosh, yes! This film wrecked me. Oh God.
MrsBerthaRochester · 22/03/2021 15:17

Manchester by the sea. Amazing performances from every actor and I think the line he uses at the end about how he will never get over it is far more realistic than the usual Hollywood happy endings. Some things are just to devastating to live with.
