I've just watched Mums List. Proper sobbing watching it and I don't even have children.

Eight Below, Haachi and Marley & Me are sad too.

Seven pounds, the boy in striped pyjamas, titanic

Who will love my children ... a made for tv film.

EvilOnion · 24/03/2021 11:52

@hamptonmummy if you're interested in the case that inspired Devils Knot you should watch the Paradise Lost trilogy and The Forgotten West Memphis 3.

It's an awful, awful case all around and all the sadder that the families of those 3 little boys are unlikely to see justice being done even if it does seem obvious.

Who will love my children. Tears rolled down my cheeks. This is my father. If that film doesn't make you cry your a marble statue.

Undoubtedly a Hungarian film called Viharsarok (Land of Storms). It's the only film I've ever watched I'd say is genuinely heart breaking rather than just sad.

colouringindoors · 24/03/2021 17:16

Kes, it killed me.

I looked up the dad on Facebook. He has remarried and has another son plus a stepson. Made me happy to see.

I loved 84 Charing Cross road, quite an old film now, about the American author Helene Hanff, and her correspondence and friendship with Frank Doel who ran an antique bookshop in London.

She wanted to visit for many years, and when she finally got there, about twenty years later, she discovered he had died only a few months before. Utterly heartbreaking.

DizSquiz · 24/03/2021 18:26

Marley and Me. Still to this day have not managed to watch to the end.

LovelyIssues · 24/03/2021 20:30

The lovely bones. Stuck with me for a long time

Imitation of Life - old Lana Turner film, absolutely brilliant and makes me cry.
The Champ and Lion- make me sob
Avengers Infinity War- Spiderman at the end makes me cry

theleafandnotthetree · 24/03/2021 20:45

@DagenhamRoundhouse

Forgot 'Brief Encounter' ! Still heartbreaking after all these years.
Oh the final scene where they are together in the train station, it would break your heart. Also the scene in The Bridges of Madison County where she is in the truck.

I always find it interesting how these scenes are almost universally seen as being dreadfully sad - they are regularly cited on these kind of threads - but if the Meryl Streep or Celia Howard character posted on Relationships they would likely be torn to shreds as adulterous bitches.

clarpa6 · 24/03/2021 21:08

Who will love my children - watched it when I was about 14/15, meant to be babysitting for my mum but I was so heartbroken she had to stay in and comfort me. I was a mess!
