I've just watched Mums List. Proper sobbing watching it and I don't even have children.

Eight Below, Haachi and Marley & Me are sad too.

Who will love my Children
Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

Notavegan · 22/03/2021 12:40

Mary and Martha had me sobbing

Warrickdaviesasplates · 22/03/2021 12:40

@middleager

I can't remember the name, but it's a film with Angelina Jolie, directed by Clint Eastwood telling the true story of a mother whose son goes missing and then seemingly returns.
The Changling.

Based on the Wineville Chicken coop murders.

One of the just disturbing and upsetting films I’ve ever watched
Based on true story

Oh god yes, Dear Zachary and Precious. Both more awful/horrifying/bleak than sob fests but they def stay with you for a long, long time after, again both true stories (the former a straight documentary the latter a drama based on a true story). Don't start watching either if not feeling very robust!

Brokeback Mountain and Never Let Me Go both very well made, very sad films without being quite so traumatic!

Warrickdaviesasplates · 22/03/2021 12:46

The Kite Runner.

Even DH she's a tear while watching that one. I knew what was coming as I'd read the book, tried to sneaky read some at work and ended up in tears so I was prepared for it.

Juno.

Storks- the ending where everyone gets their babies just makes me sob. I struggled to conceive DC2 and think it just hit a raw nerve.

The boy in the striped pyjamas, the zoo keepers wife, Schindlers list- any Holocaust film.

Yes I agree with Brokeback Mountain!

Haven't seen Dear Zachary but I've read about it so I have chosen to avoid it as I know it'll get me.

Blood diamond.

Lochmorlich · 22/03/2021 12:49

Sophie's choice.
Years ago and I still think about it.

Lentillover1900 · 22/03/2021 12:56

Haatchi... where did you watch and suitable for an 8 year old?

BadBear · 22/03/2021 12:57

La vita e bella - the scene where Benigni walks off with the soldier while the kid is hiding gets me every time.

Le Havre - impeccable acting. It leaves you with such a bittersweet taste

The film I have cried the most at the cinema was Volta a terra, a Portuguese film which I watched at a small screening where I didn't realise they would do a Q&A with the director afterwards. So there I am literally sobbing my eyes out about a film that wasn't supposed to be that sad (It reminded me of where I grew up) and all the lights come on. I did get some pretty weird looks.

I can't watch Blood Diamond again. Ditto anything that is about the Holocaust. Because it's all too real. The knowledge that this actually happened/is happening (albeit maybe not quite as portrayed in the film) is what makes it so sad.

@NotExactlyHappyToHelp

Stepmom broke my heart. There’s a brilliant film no one I know seems to have watched called 50/50 with Joseph Gordon Levitt that makes me bawl, it’s based on a true story and it’s gut wrenching to watch.

Not a film but a series but I’m still not over It’s A Sin.

It’s A Sin made me bawl so many times.
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/03/2021 13:02

Not a film, but a recent news clip showing an orangutan trying to defend a tree from a huge logging machine.

I find it so awful that I can't bring myself to try and find a link for it. You'll have to do that yourself. I would guess that it's on YouTube.

Sad Sad Sad

OverTheRainbow88 · 22/03/2021 13:03

My sisters keeper

JackieTheFart · 22/03/2021 13:09

Grave of the Fireflies - I don’t know why I started watching that as I knew what it was about, but I started sobbing about three minutes in and had to go and lie down. I’ve never gone back to it. I don’t think I can.

Benjamin Button still makes me well up just thinking about it (this will out me to anyone that knows me as I tell this all the time!). I was watching it for the first time with my newborn in my arms, and the ending when BB just closes his eyes and drifts off.... oh my god it made me weep. I remember I was staying with my mum, and I took my baby off to bed and just wept for ages.

Mind you, every bloody thing makes me cry nowadays. You’d never believe I was the hardarse who never cried until I had a baby!

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 22/03/2021 13:10

I cried solidly throughout the second half of Me Before You. Can't remember a sodding thing about it, except the tears!

StressedTired · 22/03/2021 13:10

Kramer vs Kramer, broke my heart when I saw that one. Also Lion, I cried through it and for a good while afterwards. Beaches is good for a sob too.

NoFanJoe · 22/03/2021 13:10

Lilya 4-ever is the one that comes to mind for me.

A totally feal-bad movie

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 22/03/2021 13:11

Lion I remember every detail of. Bloody brilliant movie.

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 22/03/2021 13:12

Million Dollar baby made me sob my eyes out. Watched it years ago and can't bear to watch it again.

AllTheWayFromLondonDAMN · 22/03/2021 13:13

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind gets me every time.

DioneTheDiabolist · 22/03/2021 13:15

An Imitation of Life, with the amazing Juanita Moore. It was made in 1959 so very relevant to it's time.Sad

LifesLittleDeciders · 22/03/2021 13:18

The fault in our stars (is that what it’s called?) the one with the daughter dying of cancer.

Absolutely sobbed when the dad broke down to her. Oh my god I can’t ever imagine.
