I know spring is here. The treefrogs have started their nightly singing. It's not terribly loud but I do hear them if I wake up. Also, the yard looks smashing since the landscaper did their spring cleanup on Tuesday.

Tonight is Tex/Mex takeaway night, the first since last fall when the restaurant closed. We can hardly wait. Smile

Looking forward to getting home and using my new show rack. Yay! Life does not get better than that, you know! I moved into my new room last Tuesday but I still have to unbox stuff as my lung infection meant I was not able to do much. It is s.l.o.w.l.y clearing up so hopefully this weekend I can get EVERYTHING cleared away. I still haven't unpacked my plates and bowls but them I have been on a mainly liquid diet as it is exhausting eating with this infection!

MissConductUS · 25/03/2021 18:16

@Deathraystare, I'm glad you're on the mend. Was it a new shoe rack you're going to be using?

Ohhhh I could do with Tex Mex tonight!!

What have you ordered?

We’re having pork chops, seared then topped with whole grain mustard, baked on a layer of onion and white cabbage sautéed with caraway seeds, white pepper and oregano. Baby potatoes with butter and garlic on the side.

Spudlet · 25/03/2021 18:30

Car was no good. Dh is all deflated as he was hoping we could get it sorted fairly painlessly... hey ho. Something better will turn up and we can manage with a single car until then. On the upside he has declared the old car off the road so we will get a tax rebate.

Glad you're starting to feel better, @Deathraystare!

Ninkanink · 25/03/2021 18:33

@Deathraystare 🌷 I’m glad you’re on the mend. I also think a shoe rack is a very important thing.

Silkies · 25/03/2021 18:38

Tex Mex sounds lovely, hope you enjoy that. We could do fajitas as well, its hard as DS is very restricted on food but he loves anything like bread/plain fajitas and meat then we can have proper ones with sour cream, onions, peppers, cheese etc. I used to love ordering that at the restuarant (or sizzling Chinese dishes) as I loved the sizzling. Ahh the days of eating out pre a vegan DD and ASD DS.

Neighbours have been doing their fences. Not sure what is happening, they sent us an e-mail saying did we want the fence doing between theirs and ours and we'ld need to pay whole thing and request came via another neighbour. Hmm I said fine but never heard anymore back and afterwards wondered why I agreed to pay all of it. It's a village though and don't want to fall out over a bit of fence.

MissConductUS · 25/03/2021 18:59

We haven't ordered yet, they won't open for a bit. I'm still at work too. Here are the preliminary picks:

CALAMARI
Fried & tossed w/ lemon vinaigrette, pickled peppers & pineapple.

NACHOS w/ BLACK BEAN CHILI CON CARNE
Queso fundido sauce, pickled peppers & Mexican crema.

And for the tacos, it will be a mix of

ADOBO CITRUS MARINATED CHICKEN
Corn mango salsa, shredded romaine, cotija cheese

CRISPY STEAK TACO
Sauteed onions, sauteed jalapenos, avocado salsa.

SMOKED NATURAL BLACK ANGUS BRISKET
Pickled vegetables, crispy onions, chili crema

I may also throw in a

GRILLED CHICKEN QUESADILLA
Pepper jack cheese, Mexican crema, rojo mole (contains nuts).

They don't offer fajitas, unfortunately. It's a tiny bar with a small eat-in section so the menu isn't huge. But the food is fabulous.

Spudlet, did the old car finally give up the ghost, or was the new car he was looking at turn out to be a disappointment?

@MissConductUS - You do realize what you do to me? Hmm To an elderly person unable to move much and therefore not using up any calories? Hmm

MissConductUS · 25/03/2021 19:43

Prok, you cannot gain weight by reading about food. Grin

I also cannot move much because of my torn ligament, but the stationary bike and weight lifting have helped. I really have noticed the difference in my upper body strength. I really have to cut back on eating though.

Miss That's what you say! Grin

I think DH is coming round to the idea of a tall fridge with a slightly bigger freezer part. No idea where we'll put it, but it is a start.

Silkies · 25/03/2021 20:08

I'm drinking prosecco with peach syrup. I got 6 bottles of terrible prosecco with Avios points I earned from flights to Australia which due to covid we can only now use on terrible alcohol. So we have to disguise it.

Ninkanink · 25/03/2021 20:18

Envy Envy Envy

I hope you enjoy your feast!

Silkies · 25/03/2021 20:42

DH is just going back to the shop at the end of our road as he forgot to buy the steak and sour cream for the steak fajitas when he went shopping an hour ago to buy the ingredients for the steak fajitas.

Ninkanink · 25/03/2021 21:18

Grin That sounds like something I’d do!

HelenaJustina · 26/03/2021 06:15

We are having fajitas on Saturday, I remembered the sour cream when shopping last night (preens)

Liddelingland · 26/03/2021 07:27

Somebody told me I was a genius yesterday! I was very happy to accept the compliment, but all I did to warrant it was suggest the Teams meeting invitation she had accidentally deleted might still be recoverable from her Deleted Items folder.

In the land of the blind the one eyed me is queen! Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/03/2021 07:39

A wasp just flew in through my bedroom window. First slightly not so cold day and they wake up. Good for them, we need them and all the other little members of the food chain.
I must remember to get lots of bee feeding plants again.

I stomped into the kitchen to get some coffee.

Champagneforeveryone · 26/03/2021 11:41

I am going to collect DM's new car tomorrow, for various boring and convoluted reasons it is two hours drive away.

It occurred to me that this is the furthest I have driven in over a year. I feel rather giddy at the prospect. I am going to wear proper clothes and everything Grin

Spudlet · 26/03/2021 12:22

@MissConductUS Both. The potential new car isn’t that old but it’s on its second engine already and there were some potentially worrying things in the MOT history when we looked it up, so we’ve decided to keep looking. The old car is probably fixable but it had the same fault only a few months ago and it cost a couple of hundred to fix - it’s just not worth it for the value and age of the car, it’s getting to the point now where things are just continually going wrong with it. We don’t really need two cars at present so we’ve just take it off the road while we look for a new one.

Ninkanink · 26/03/2021 12:36

Today’s dull news is that they came to take the scaffolding away from the back of the house.

And I ordered more stuff for the back garden (it’s not actually a garden, it’s a tiny courtyard. But I love it). Oops.

MissConductUS · 26/03/2021 12:40

Everyone is having fajitas! I seem to have started a craving for Mexican food.

The takeaway last night was delicious. I have a leftover steak taco that I brought in for lunch today. The only problems was with our order of chips and salsa. They gave us a container of their salsa but forgot the chips, so DH went back to get them. They gave us a second portion for free. I guess they weren't quite back in the groove yet. DH reported that when he went back they had a line out the door of people waiting for tables and lots of people were dining outside.

Spudlet, we're of the same philosophy when it comes to cars. We drive them until they are truly on their last legs then replace them, generally with new ones. There is a shortage of used cars here at the moment so a good one doesn't offer as much of a discount as it used to. We will probably have to buy DD something to take to uni next year.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/03/2021 12:45

I have just learned that I am not supposed to wear any shoes I have worn before my surgery.
So I will have to invest in new ones.

Ninkanink · 26/03/2021 12:47

We’re having spaghetti and meatballs tonight, with sautéed courgette on the side. Couple of glasses of wine, too! Can’t wait.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/03/2021 13:13

@Ninkanink That sounds lovely!
I am laid up in bed with my foot up and have to wait until somebody decides to cook.

Probably Schnitzel, Kohlrabi (what's the Englih for that?) and Bratkartoffeln (fried potatoes)
