Lee Hurst Tweet - What a vile little man

Hi,

Google if you haven't already seen it. Absolutely disgusting.

On what level is this funny? What section of society would be anything other than repulsed by a comment like this? Ah yes, the moronic misogynists.

Oh well, at least you know your audience, Lee.

What a tosser.

I met him once, he was at a nightclub after he had
appeared in something in my home city. I was a fan at the time. He wasn't nice at all.

@BRITISHisBEST

Good job no one on here remembers the 70's comedians when people didn't take offence to anything and everything!
I remember 70s comedians, Bernard Manning ..aye they were the days Hmm
userlotsanumbers · 20/03/2021 16:20

I saw this before it got suspended (good!) and was disgusted by it, but heartened to see some of the reply tweets - many funnier than he's ever been and also some pointing out that condoms are made of latex, not plastic, which doesn't seem to have occurred to him? Thick as well as vile.

We have moved on from women having to shrug off vile misogynistic remarks in fear of being labelled difficult or humourless.

Hello there could you give some examples of the 70s comedian stuff that you consider much worse than a late middle-aged white man perving over a 16 year old girl. Thank you.
IcelandThree · 20/03/2021 16:24

Oh, him. I had to google to remember who he was. Here's to him sinking back into well deserved obscurity again.

Rockbird · 20/03/2021 16:24

I used to think he was really funny back in the day. He suffered a lot with back pain and was almost disabled (completely irrelevant memory!). What the fuck happened to him, that tweet is disgusting.

We remember, and we’re still working on getting society, and some men in particular, to realise that it is not acceptable.
pinkearedcow · 20/03/2021 16:27

FlibbertyGiblets try googling Roy Chubby Brown if you have the stomach for it. Envy

NiceGerbil · 20/03/2021 16:30

I remember the 70s.

Always hated all the objectification of women and the massive sexism. Before I even knew the words for any of it.

The idea that everyone then was great with jokes about old men trying to grope young nurses with big boobs and tiny uniforms is nonsense.

WhoAreYah · 20/03/2021 16:30

I haven’t seen it but I went to one of his shows once. It was when FB was fairly new. He mentioned he was on there, so I added him. As a teenager this was big news when he accepted. Had a couple of creepy messages from him offering me free tickets to his show. Got the real ick.

TangerineCandyfloss · 20/03/2021 16:35

@BRITISHisBEST, ah yes - the good old days.

I remember them. And they were offensive and/or creepy even then. Benny Hill for example? Some old round guy asking young women around with his tongue out? Ffs.
Kolo · 20/03/2021 16:44

Asking? I swear I typed "chasing".

Motnight · 20/03/2021 16:46

@FoxyTheFox

Lee Hurst, the man even Piers Morgan refers to as "a prick"

I enjoyed the response from Steve Brookstein:

"Conversely, when Lee Hurst last tried to have sex, he complained that he couldn't use plastic and needed cash."

LizzieSiddal · 20/03/2021 16:50

Very surprise but pleased that Twitter took such quick action.

Why is an older man thinking about an 18 year olds sex life. What a vile pervert.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 20/03/2021 16:55

It's a truly grim comment he's made, bleurgh.

FoxyTheFox · 20/03/2021 17:01

Considering BRITISHisBEST appears to have joined MN specifically to post that comment and that the comment is very similar to shit responses tweeted by the man himself, I think it might be a fair bet that Lee has discovered Mumsnet 🤔

CandyLeBonBon · 20/03/2021 17:05

😂😂 don't why people are find it hard to believe I got in a good heckle! It wasn't hard - he's not very funny! Not sure why you'd think I'd make something up that's so random. I'm really not desperate for validation, it was just a funny story from my twenties! Shrug 🤷‍♂️

TangerineCandyfloss · 20/03/2021 17:05

@FoxyTheFox, what an honour that would be.

Also....the username Hmm

This is Lee Hurst on Wikipedia. Very confusing indeed as I warmed to him on reading the first paragraph before being thoroughly repelled by the rest.

*Hurst refuses to be interviewed by newspapers owned by Rupert Murdoch, was a critic of the Blair government, and in one interview, stated that he stopped attending a back support group which helped him with his ankylosing spondylitis after he found out that it was run as a charity, explaining that "I believe it should be provided by the State through taxation. I'd be very hypocritical if I used their facilities when I won't do medical charity benefits".[3]

According to comments made by Hurst on his Twitter account in 2014, he is a supporter of the UK Independence Party.[6]

He is a supporter of Brexit and an advocate for free speech, criticising the banning of Tommy Robinson by Twitter[7] and alleging double standards by the media over Robinson's contempt of court hearings and Peter Hain's use of parliamentary privilege.[8] He is also critical of identity politics[9] and left-wing politics generally,[10][11][12] the UN,[13][14][15] feminism,[16][17] Sadiq Khan,[18][19][20] and wearing masks to reduce the spread of COVID-19.[21]*

Very confusing

Plenty of us cringed through the 70s and 80s thanks! Wasn't funny then and it still isn't funny! Hey ho
