Leave a bottle of something sparkling, or a bunch of flowers for the new owners of your house and the instructions for any built in appliances somewhere handy for them. If you forget anything important they'll be the ones who can help you to sort it out, so keeping them onside might make a big difference.

RoseMartha · 15/03/2021 22:09

Just before you leave for the last time take pictures of all the rooms empty and the garden and garage if you have one case new people dispute the condition.

Wolfiefan · 15/03/2021 22:10

You should have paperwork from the microchip company. (I keep ours with the vaccination certs).

RoseMartha · 15/03/2021 22:11

I also labelled keys eg window keys, shed key, bin key, garage key, gate key etc and left them on side in kitchen with original instruction booklet on how the boiler and cooker works.

theliverpoolone · 15/03/2021 22:20

Dont forget to clear out your final kitchen cupboard of all the last minute food you're using - unlike me, who left a whole cupboard full behind!

dohdohdoh · 15/03/2021 22:24

Bottles of water and lots of snacks to keep you going. You need sustenance on moving day!

Lochnessgiraffe · 15/03/2021 22:27

Will add waterbottles to kettle box

Make a moving box to have at hand. Toilet roll, scissors, pen, coffee / biscuits / milk, cash, toilet roll. Pack an overnight bag so you have all your necessary things in one place

Good luck x

I am moving next week and have a similar list on the go.

I have also organised 6 months of post redirection and, as each redirected item comes in, I will inform the sender of my new address - this should sop up any that I might have forgotten.

Good luck with your move!

Mischance · 15/03/2021 22:34

Oh - and I am taking some things in my car: laptop, toilet rolls, toothpaste etc. for the first night, clean undies for the next day, personal and confidential files, tissues, bedding from my bed, doormats (as it might be a wet/muddy day), lampshades, basic curtains for bedroom and bathroom - as well as kettle and tea etc.

AdoraBell · 15/03/2021 22:48

Put documents, passports, birth/marriage certificates, bank/savings details etc in your hand bag, also any jewellery.

Once a cupboard is empty leave the door open until that room is packed. We moved countries and as we were leaving for the airport I opened a cupboard in the kitchen. It was full of food 🤦‍♀️ DH thought I’d cleared it and I thought he had.

mummymayhem18 · 15/03/2021 22:52

Remember to clean your oven or get it cleaned before you leave 😀

ForeverBubblegum · 15/03/2021 23:00

Update your address with PayPal. A few moves ago now, but about 2 months in I ordered something and it auto filled the address from my PayPal data. I didn't notice until it said order complete, and I realised I hadn't filled it in. It was a right pain to sort out.

DartmoorChef · 15/03/2021 23:02

If you have any favourite plants in your garden take cuttings

longtompot · 15/03/2021 23:03

We forgot to change the v5 document of ownership on our car. We only realised a year or so later when we got a letter from a debt collection agency!

QueenZoopla · 15/03/2021 23:05

Arrange for a locksmith to come to your new house on move day and put in new locks

Mumdiva99 · 15/03/2021 23:08

Don't forget to change address at the orthodontist waiting list. The wait is more than 12 months and therefore the appointment will be sent to the old address 2 months after the years redirection has finished.....they won't then see your son.

Overthegardenfence · 15/03/2021 23:13

I’m moving tomorrow, been packing all day today the things I forgot today were keeping some dog food, bowls and a fork hidden away from the packers and ibuprofen, handy things to have to hand are screwdrivers, filler and paint, cleaning stuff, phone chargers, toothbrush charger, cash for the removal people’s tip if your moving a distance away have your dental check up, order any repeat prescriptions if I think of any more I’ll let you know. I’m dreading tomorrow can’t wait to just finally get there now.

Overthegardenfence · 15/03/2021 23:14

Sorry lots of mistakes in that post but I’m a bit frazzled!

Apileofballyhoo · 15/03/2021 23:17

@Palavah

Pack a case as if you're going away for the weekend. Remember a towel.
I was coming on to say this. I packed three days worth of clothes each into one case with bedding and towels, with toothbrushes and so on. Took a lot of pressure off.

Kitchen roll, soap and washing up liquid in the box with the kettle/tea/mugs. I also did a box for breakfast.

I left a mirror on the wall and a picture that was on a wall hidden by an open door.

Affectation · 15/03/2021 23:23

Don't know if it's been said, but take lots of pictures of both your old place and your new house (even if it seems silly), you'll love looking back at them.

Lochmorlich · 16/03/2021 07:19

Check inside any integral appliances before you leave.
The washing machine in our new house was full of towels when I used it for the first time.

dragonsmoke · 16/03/2021 07:30

Don't forget to take your doorstops (if they are nice ones...)

Lochnessgiraffe · 16/03/2021 07:41

Lots of good advice. I'm making a list from what everyone has said so far. Thanks
