I'm moving this weekend. Collecting keys on Saturday.
What will I forget to do?

Say goodbye to any neighbours and leave new address.

Lochnessgiraffe · 15/03/2021 21:21

I'll remember to flush!

We are moving on Saturday I'm the same just switched Gas, Electric, House insurance, council tax and water in a couple of hours but could have been quicker if kids hadn't been interupting me!

Don't forget driving licence as they can fine you...it's lots of annoying click throughs & took the longest.

Sickoffamilydrama · 15/03/2021 21:30

I'm not moving on Saturday...it's Friday see heads buzzing so much I don't even know the day!

We only exchanged today!!!

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 15/03/2021 21:32

When you pack you are best friends with the parcel tape and permanent markers...so you carry these with you to the new house. When you unpack, though, you will need bin bags and scissors, lightbulbs and probably a screwdriver, so make sure you pack these in your 'open first' box rather than the parcel tape and marker pens that you no longer need!

Lochnessgiraffe · 15/03/2021 21:34

Congratulations and good luck. I haven't even started packing yet! Boxes arrive tomorrow.

Lampshades from ceiling lights if you're taking them.

whatnow41 · 15/03/2021 21:35

Driving licence needs updating - you can end up in court if you don't update it.

EileenGC · 15/03/2021 21:38

Bin bags, toilet roll, scissors and a box cutter (or strong knife) at the top of the first box or bag you plan to unpack on arrival (for which you shouldn’t need any of the above 😂)

Lochnessgiraffe · 15/03/2021 21:38

I can't remember if there are light bulbs or not now. But we'll be taking ours as they're all smart so will need to buy some to leave here

Keep a corkscrew handy!

Chihuahuacat · 15/03/2021 21:41

We kept our kettle, coffee / tea out so we could offer our movers a brew, then left them all behind, don’t do that.

Do you have pets? Make sure they are somewhere safe.

There’s a weird lull between you handing over your keys and getting new ones - have somewhere to go (we went to McDonald’s).

A takeaway number for the new house. Bulbs / loo roll just in case.

Dailywalk · 15/03/2021 21:41

Inform DVLA of your new address. I didn’t and reminders to renew my car tax went to old house. I drove around with no tax for 18m! Then got a huge fine.

Lochnessgiraffe · 15/03/2021 21:43

Unfortunately we don't drink but might get cake!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 15/03/2021 21:45

Don't forget to empty your freezer and make sure there's nothing on top of kitchen cupboards.

catwithflowers · 15/03/2021 21:45

Do you have a garden? Take cutting of favourite plants/ take any special plants with you. We are moving soon and are taking some rose bushes with us which are of sentimental value. (The new owners do know!)

CaffeineAndCrochet · 15/03/2021 21:46

Anything stuck to a wall - posters, wall charts, the hose outside, the dressing gown as someone mentioned upthread.

Lochnessgiraffe · 15/03/2021 21:46

Will add loo roll to the kettle box.
Fortunately no car to worry about.

@Sidesaladofchips

Totally not in the must do box, but it's lovely to have fresh bedding prepared. Change your duvet cover and pillow cases, roll it all up in a bag/box with a fresh undersheet and transport it yourself if needed. Then you can simply unroll it, pop the sheet on the mattress and all ready for your first night in your new home.

That along with making sure you have kettle, mugs, teabags and a carton of UHT to hand. Again precious cargo you might want to transport yourself! Grin

And make up the beds the minute they are in the new house. Don't wait till the end of the day, when you will be knackered and desperate to crawl into bed immediately.
BunnyRuddington · 15/03/2021 21:48

Change the address on your TV Licence. They are buggers fir fining you if you don't.

Echobelly · 15/03/2021 21:51

Put the bed together before bedtime

Lochnessgiraffe · 15/03/2021 21:51

Good idea about bedding both of you !

Wolfiefan · 15/03/2021 21:53

Do you have pets? Change the address with the microchip company ASAP.

goose1964 · 15/03/2021 21:53

If you have a dog update the details on the chip register

Palavah · 15/03/2021 21:57

Pack a case as if you're going away for the weekend. Remember a towel.
