I’m hopeless and would like inspo Smile We are getting married in late Spring (May/June time) but thought it be a nice thread to hear from those of you who got married in all seasons - flower threads make me happy Grin

Thank you!

July wedding and had pink tulips, my favourite

cakebythepound1234 · 16/03/2021 14:35

This was my bouquet and I absolutely loved it, was so beautiful! Called a trailing bouquet, not 100% sure on the flowers - I just showed my florist pictures of bouquets I'd seen on Pinterest and this is the beauty I ended up with!

Just saw your question about budget - we had a small budget for flowers, we had my bouquet, the flowers for the parents, groom and groomsmens pockets, and a big display wreath for the certificate signing table which was then moved to the top table. We didn't bother with any other flowers as our caterers did big sharing platters to be passed around the tables, so with the platters and the bottles of wine we just wouldn't have had room for table flowers. Which helped with the budget. I think we paid £400-£500 roughly for the bouquet, 12 pocket flowers and a big display running the length of the top table. I don't know if that's reasonable or not but we were expecting a much bigger bill so when we got the quote for flowers we were very relieved! Instead of flowers laid down the aisle we had cute little jars filled with electric tea lights along the sides of the aisle which were a bargain compared to more flowers.

Sorry for derailing but has anyone done their own flowers and bought from an online wholesaler. Doing daughter 10 table arrangements and top table in Nov (cross fingers) and whilst will be ok for greenery will need to buy in flowers at that time of year. She has said I can spend £300 but should be less than that and florist doing the rest. Going for rust, gold, navy, green and burgundy colours.

I would also be interested in whether anyone did theirs themselves and how they found it! MIL said we could give this a go, she’s rather crafty but I’m ... not so much Grin

April. I had large branches of lilacs both white and purple for large standing displays. On the tables there were white lilacs with purple tulips. The bridesmaids had blue and purple anemones.

For my bouquet I had a bunch of arum lilies tied with a long flooring ribbon - very architectural.

Sunflowers and smaller sunflowers and baby's breath. We did ordered the brides and bridemaids bouquets from the florists,

but the table and venue decorations we did ourselves after buying cut flowers from a local flower garden.

I saved up vases and jam jars. It was nice fun sitting down with my bridemaids and putting them together and decorating the venue the day before :)

Mid July. I had amnesia roses, peonies, hydrangeas, eucalyptus, lambs ears, and succulents.

December wedding. Bouquet of leaves, and leaves in my hair.

Roystonv · 17/03/2021 10:19

I am happy doing table arrangements as said above and would have a go at buttonholes but think bouquets/formal church arrangements do need a specialised hand unless you are going for very informal/fun type do and then just go for it!

Nearly everything in my wedding was handmade by my DM. She’s super talented. She did the invitations, decorations, flowers, cake... but she was already a paper crafter and cake decorator. I couldn’t have achieved the overall look I had without her because I’m not as capable.

We had an April wedding and had purple and white roses (fake!), with a few snowdrops in my bouquet in memory of my Grandfather.

BIL and SIL got married in France in a big house/chateau that they’d hired for the whole wedding party to stay in for a long weekend. It was a DIY wedding, and when everyone arrived they were allocated tasks to contribute to the setting up of the wedding - preparing breakfast, decorating the reception room, planning activities etc etc. My task was the flowers! I was expected to create the bride’s bouquet and a floral arrangement for the ceremony Shock.

I am a gardener, but I am very much not a florist. To make this terrifying task even worse, I had to use ‘wild flowers from around the chateau’. I had absolutely no prior knowledge of this task, and there was no internet so I couldn’t even google ‘how to make a bridal bouquet’.

Here are my efforts. A bit wild...

My recommendation is don’t spring this on someone!

@venusclaptrap I think you did an excellent job!

DownWhichOfLate · 18/03/2021 14:03

We “did” our own flowers for the table centres. We bought potted flowers and wrapped the pots in tissue paper and cellophane. Then guests were welcome to take one home. Top table and bouquets were done professionally though.

LifesLittleDeciders · 18/03/2021 14:05

I’m not getting married until 2023 but my plans are for white and peach roses with lots and lots of eucalyptus and foliage. I’m not looking to have many flowers as such, I want primarily foliage.

Kiki275 · 18/03/2021 14:12

My whole wedding was themed around my favourite flowers which are orange/red freesias. These were combined with orange roses and red berries etc.
Picture not the best but they were beautiful, bright and smelt amazing. I bought wholesale freesias and put them in milk bottles for centrepieces to keep costs down x

June wedding - bouquet of white sweet peas (no foliage). Very simple, like my dress.

Church display of white hydrangeas with fresh green foliage - very good for making an impact

Reception displays and table arrangements - Errr can’t quite remember but the overall look was dusty pink, white and sage green. Definitely some roses involved.

IAcceptCookies · 18/03/2021 14:24

I knew (and still know) nothing about flowers, and had a modest wedding, so just phoned florists with budget and off the top of my head said "peach" as a colour scheme. I
was delighted with what I received, beautiful mixed bouquet with lots of roses. Our lunch venue had unexpectedly and fortuitously been done up in the 6 weeks since we booked it (last minute!) and was full of peach roses, too. So lovely.

VenusClapTrap · 18/03/2021 15:42

Thanks Gerla!

SquirtleSquad · 18/03/2021 15:49

Winter wedding.
Here's my bouquet, our Center piece wreaths which matched, sugar flowers on the cake, I couldn't find a better photo of the top table flowers (also matched) but with pine cone candles throughout, a close up of one of the flowers in my bouquet and the button holes to match Smile

Lilies - not the cala ones. Even though I was told they were funeral flowers and I shouldn't have them.

(Similarly the cake was not fruit, it was sponge. MIL found this most peturbing)

Dogsaresomucheasier · 18/03/2021 17:24

I got married a rather long time ago so this will be horribly out of fashion and pre-digital photos, but cream roses, white and lilac freesias (smelt amazing!) and purple Lizzie this.

TeapotCollection · 18/03/2021 17:31

Artificial ones. Still got them 14 years later
