My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

@goodbyestranger

If you can stop arguing, for just a moment, I would like to wish all mums a happy Mother's Day - including the DoC

What an insensitive thing to write on a thread where one particular mother has just lost her daughter in the most shocking of circumstances.

And...... This is the insanity of Mumsnet, a woman, on a women's site, types an innocuous, friendly message to other Mothers on Mothers day and is 'insensitive'

You really can't make this stuff up

WhiskyWhiskersdottir · 14/03/2021 10:00

@Wobblesandchickuns

Hmm looks like a PR move to cynical me...
Yup.
JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 14/03/2021 10:01

@Krispyk it's ridiculous isn't it.

@Mummyozzi the family probably didn't need hundreds of people flocking to the place their child was last seen alive, it it happened because people care and wanted to show their respect

I agreed with that comment. I didn't post it. Perhaps you would like to address it with the OP not me.
Not muddled here thanks!
@Roussette I cannot find whoever posted the original comment. There are over 800 posts and I'm not reading them all.

You agreed with the comment, so my post applies to you [too].

And yes, IMO you are muddled if you equate being 'private' with being in disguise.

'Private' is going somewhere alone or unannounced without an entourage when you are Royalty.

derxa · 14/03/2021 10:01

@speakout

Misogyny and patriarchy are not just the realms of men. Many men are not best served by this structure. And many women are hapless handmaidens perpetuating the ideals.
I've never been a 'handmaiden' ever. Well done Kate. You'd think she'd walked through Clapham Common arm in arm with Andrew and the pair of them had torn the floral tributes to pieces. RIP Sarah Condolences to her family. Wishing them strength to get through the coming days.
burgerjack · 14/03/2021 10:01

So no one in a family can care about women until they've sorted their nonce uncles out first?? Why is it up to KM? What do you actually expect her to do about PA?

I don't expect KM to do anything, I would like the RF to do more though. If he is guilty of something I would like him to face charges.

Roussette · 14/03/2021 10:01

What's interesting about it? We should all be equal with what has happened and she is a woman like thousands of others paying her respects.

GCAcademic · 14/03/2021 10:02

@Mummyozzi

I don't doubt that it is touching and my deepest sympathies for Sarah Everand and her family.

However the Oprah interview was only a week ago. Wills came out swinging a day ago. I'm sorry but anything the royals do this week is with their image and brand in mind.

I actually think that it is tactless to pay her respects when it will also benefit her and bolster her public image.

She could have released a statement as a family or sent flowers as a family as they usually do.

So because her relatives went on Oprah a week ago, she can't get involved in anything? What is an acceptable amount of time before she's allowed to appear in public?

If she'd released a statement, you would be the first to accuse her of PR.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 14/03/2021 10:02

Like my mother used to say about being a parent: "can't do right for doing wrong."
If Kate hadn't gone people would have been whinging and whinying about that, if she'd gone incognito people would say she didn't go and should have done, so she goes in the most understated way she possibly could and that's wrong too.

OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 14/03/2021 10:03
@OneFamilyToRuleUsAll I did mention it was still me. But as I say all my posts must be highlighted to you and others that they are OP posts no matter what my username?
Ah, sorry I definitely missed that you said it.

Actually, no the other posts aren't highlighted as the OP, including the new one you used to show me. Only @JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows is highlighted as the OP. Wouldn't have noticed the difference if they were and I wouldn't have brought it up either. I think only the one you started with can be highlighted as the OP.

But no worries. It doesn't matter now Smile

Roussette · 14/03/2021 10:03

SallyAnn
Just doing 'control F' would take you to it if you so wanted.
Thanks for the muddled comment again. Hmm

Personally I think when Charles ascends the throne he will hang PA out to dry - now THAT would be the best PR move a royal could ever make

Read my OP and you'll find out why i think it was interesting. I'm it repeating myself to serve your weird agenda

Roussette · 14/03/2021 10:06

Not for one minute do I think that would've happened. There's been vigils before and never have I seen demands that KM should've gone.

burgerjack · 14/03/2021 10:06

I'm happy to be proved wrong about the PR angle. If KM uses her platform going forward to bring more attention & light to male violence going forward then I think that's a good thing.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 14/03/2021 10:06

GUARANTEE there's have been people saying "why a stand bet? What was stopping her from visiting the memorial in person?

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 14/03/2021 10:06

A young woman died.
Another woman turned up to pay her respects. With a load of other women.

Big debate about motive.

Women can’t win. We really can’t.

She didn’t go to the vigil, though.
Roussette · 14/03/2021 10:07

OK, OP... I have a 'weird agenda' because I have a slightly different opinion to you.
I just don't think it's bold or brave, that's all.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 14/03/2021 10:07

Only @JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows is highlighted as the OP.

But all my posts are in that username?

I can assure you ( evaluate I've fucked up before with a name change) all OP posts show up in red/green/purple depending on what platform you're using

OP posts:
Roussette · 14/03/2021 10:08

She didn’t go to the vigil, though

Ok. To look at the flowers, is that better.

DoubleTweenQueen · 14/03/2021 10:08

Thank God - only two more pages left to go

CrabPuff · 14/03/2021 10:09

Kate’s attendance to any cause shines a spotlight on it. Whether it’s a children’s hospice or the Scouts or a women’s shelter. Whatever reason she turned up, it has done a good thing and guaranteed more coverage, whether she wanted it or not, she doesn’t go many places unrecognised but her freedom is curtailed enough. She should be able to go if she wants. She was surrounded by women.

I like to think that as a woman who has been chased by a horde of men for a decade (albeit with cameras), and as the mother of a daughter, she felt strongly about the murder of a woman by a man.

OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 14/03/2021 10:09

It really doesn't for me, OP. Could you send in one of the names besides this one and I'll send a screenshot.
