Crawling back to normality slightly slower than a tortoise taking the scenic route...

@Wilberforce42

Awww she’s lovely! On a more serious note I can’t believe what I woke up to re vaccine passports. I am now seriously worried about where we’re heading with all this and feel completely powerless to do anything about it. I’ve signed the petition to ban them but realistically how effective are petitions?
It's really worrying. It took probably over 500 years to create a society as free as ours was (not perfect, but with high levels of personal freedom), and now people will throw all that away in a year.
Worldgonecrazy · 04/04/2021 07:52

I think it interesting that the same weekend the nHS stop providing figures is straight before 12 April announcement. I’m presuming the weekend figures will get added in on the Monday making the Monday figures look bad, providing extra fear on the right day.

The vaccine passports thing is infuriating, there's just not enough information released, e.g. about how the tests will work if you're not old enough to be vaccinated yet (thinking about DD's friends) so it's just ramping up anxiety again. I despise the Govt and their advisers.

bakingcupcakes · 04/04/2021 09:24

Happy Easter all! We have an abundance of chocolate eggs in our house. Far more than I was expecting anyway.

I feel very disturbed about vaccine passports. It makes me want to go out and use stuff as much as I can before we aren't allowed in! Grin I think mandating it before everyone has had the option to have it is very risky. It'll drive people indoors rather than to the pubs. I do think people are less likely to stay apart in private than in public.

I over heard someone ordering delivery pizza to their group in the park last week. Grin Glad that people are working around the nonsense. DS and I have been off so we've been out loads. I've been on a mission to leave my 'local' area as much as possible. We've been to the beach, played crazy golf, eaten out (in the car) etc. The furthest we've gone is a half our drive away so nothing too mad but it's been so nice to see other places.

I was the only person to remove my mask in the outdoor section of the garden centre last week. I was surprised no one else did. It was hardly rammed. Mine is filthy/lives in my pocket. The one I used the other day has been in my summer jacket pocket since last summer. I haven't come down with anything yet though.

Happy Easter all enjoy the weather and frolic today

Or what if you have a condition where you can't be vaccinated? What happens then?
TabbyStar · 04/04/2021 10:00

Yeah I wondered that, do you just get an exemption or do you have to keep taking tests? Seems a lot of opportunity to break the Equality Act provisions.

ISaySteadyOn · 04/04/2021 10:09

Indeed.

Curlygirl06 · 04/04/2021 11:38

I said ages ago that vaccine passports would be needed to go to the pub, travel, go to hotels and holiday places and unfortunately I was right.

Twinkle tortoise says thanks for the lovely comments. Yes she is tiny but she's nearly doubled in weight since I've had her, little fatty!

RockaLock · 04/04/2021 11:53

I find the idea of vaccine passports to visit pubs etc horrifying - and also ridiculous.

We don't insist on vaccine passports domestically for any other disease, many of which are far more dangerous than covid.

Some news articles are suggesting they won't roll them out until everyone has been offered a vaccine.

So: this summer, when lots of people won't have been offered a vaccine yet, there is no need for passports.

But come the autumn, when practically everyone will have been vaccinated and things are presumably much safer, we will need one.

Where is the logic in it?!

And what about 17yos: will they be able to visit a cinema the day before their birthday, but not the day after, unless they had a vaccine as a birthday treat?

ISaySteadyOn · 04/04/2021 12:50

'Passport, please' is not far off. Sad

smallandimperfectlyformed · 04/04/2021 12:56

I am more optimistic about passports not happening. I think that they are trying to capitalise on people's fears right now but it would be a truly gargantuan task to sort out and there will be more opposition in the months to come. Let's not forget that Jeremy Corbyn, Diane Abbott and Ian Duncan Smith have all publicly stated an opposition to this amongst other Members of Parliament. Anyway Happy Easter to all! Hope you have a great day however you celebrate

TabbyStar · 04/04/2021 13:24

They do seem to have ruled them out at the moment for pubs and cafes, but who can believe them? DD and her friends have tickets for various festivals, she'll get the vaccine through work but it might be cutting it a bit fine for her 18 yo friends if there are further vaccine supply problems.

Pretty much the arguments I used in discussion on my LocalidiotsLive comments.

If you are satisfied that the vaccine is protectjng you, why are you concerned about others not having it?

I was accused of being anti-vaxx... ironic as I was in bed with a dead arm and drained from an immune system upgrade at the time Grin

Easter Sunday going pleasantly. Heading off for a walk/ picnic shortly. Gorgeous sunshine.

DS2 has been playing football and he's so happy with it. This week's been the first time he's played properly in over a year (his training went indoors from Nov 19 as it was so wet) and he's fitting the standard of the rest of the team he's playing. He's got all the sporting aptitude in the family. We can do running and that's about it!

Vaccines now into the 30s now. Lots of parents being careful with their left arm. One dad had his coat on and off and on and off... some more in their late 30s being done later. I think most parents will have had round 1 before schools go back and quite a few of us getting immunity levels up by then.

I've no issue with the vaccine rollout, just the concept of it being used for longer term control.
No one questions BCGs, MMRs, meningitis, herpes etc.
I'm just glad that prominent voices seem to be speaking up.

I’ll be amazed if people will need a passport to go into a pub - if only because the MPs hate it. The point of a pub is that you can quietly pop in and have a quick couple of pints. A “standard” pub won’t survive long term if passports are required.

It may be that it is up to the discretion of the landlord but most of them won’t want this.

CruCru · 04/04/2021 14:43

Happy Easter all! It’s a bright, sunny day here and we’ve been on a bike ride and I did an Easter egg hunt for the children.

MercyBooth · 04/04/2021 16:32

Happy Easter everyone Easter Smile

Aztectrousers · 04/04/2021 16:51

I think the media are stirring up shite again regarding vaccination passports.
Bars etc will never survive if they insist on this as all the young uns won’t have had their jabs (if they even want them) by the summer and definitely won’t have had both with them being 12 weeks apart.
My town used to be teeming with all the young folk before all this and the hospitality places rely on them, so to stop them going in will be disastrous for them.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/04/2021 17:38

Fingers crossed for tomorrow's travel announcement 🙏
Was talking to dh earlier about how Greece is expected to be on the Amber list. Like Greece is one homogeneous land mass and not various archipelagos of over 200 islands.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 04/04/2021 17:39

Sorry should have said over 200 inhabited islands.....

RockaLock · 04/04/2021 18:33

Well. That was interesting.

We had a nice wander around a National Trust place with the 2DS after lunch.

Got back, and as it's such a lovely day, DH and I decided to go for our usual walk around the block, leaving the DS (14 & 12) at home.

We were almost home when we got a call from DS1 - 2 policemen were at the door as they'd had reports of a covid breach at our address Hmm

We ran the last stretch back and had a chat to the policemen, who were perfectly nice, said they could tell it wasn't us, and that someone had probably given a wrong address.

DS1 was a bit freaked out, but had handled it well - even when one policeman said to him "that's a lot of shoes on the floor there" i.e. implying we had visitors (which we were a bit cross about - I don't think they should have continued to question a minor when we weren't there). That'll teach the DS to put their shoes away instead of leaving them all over the hall floor

But anyway. It's nice to know that somewhere at the back of us there are some people who are happy to report their neighbours for an alleged covid breach Hmm. And that they are stupid enough to get the wrong address Hmm

We booked our flights to Spain for August yesterday - we are fortunate to be able to afford to wait for a refund if it comes to it but if it's good news for holidays tomorrow then I don't want to have missed the boat!

@RockaLock bloody hell Confused I'm amazed people have the energy to report Covid breaches at this stage! Were any of your neighbours having a particularly obnoxiously loud party?!

RockaLock · 04/04/2021 19:06

@rosettesforjill we hadn't heard anything, no, so it's all a bit strange.

Next door had their grown up son round, and the husband's parents/mum, and had been having a bbq lunch outside, I think.

So I suppose that could have seemed like "a large group of people", as they have a couple of young children too. But it was clearly just a very very small family gathering - I can't believe people are petty enough to report that sort of thing Confused

But no, our road is v quiet and there was definitely no sign or sound of anyone having a huge party!

Taswama · 04/04/2021 19:10

Wow Rockalock ! We tell the DC not to open the door at all when we are out, so I'm not sure what they would have done.

DP pointed out we could probably go on holiday to Israel as they are vaccinating as quickly as we are. Luckily we are in agreement that we disagree with their politics sufficiently that we wouldn't want to go. Apparently Bermuda is another possibility.....

TabbyStar · 04/04/2021 19:22

Blimey, we'd be in trouble on that basis, and there's only two of us. Though presence of random trainers in the morning is generally the way I tell which of DD's friends are asleep somewhere in the house....

DD had a similar run in being reported to the police last summer for a "party" at her friend's house, which was actually five of them quietly watching a film at 4pm in the afternoon. The police apologised though and said they couldn't see the problem.
