Crawling back to normality slightly slower than a tortoise taking the scenic route...

Taswama we tell the DS that too!

He'd happened to be downstairs when they knocked, and they were peering through the front window and saw him. He could see they were in police uniform and so thought he'd better open the door. Otherwise I don't think he would have done.

The police told us they have to investigate every call about a covid breach. I bet 99% of the time it ends up being a total waste of their time.

RockaLock · 04/04/2021 19:43

Haha tabbystar, glad it's not just us with a shoe mountain!

BogRollBOGOF · 04/04/2021 21:39

Between my tiny feet, an 8 & 10 yo then DH's size 12 clodhoppers, our hallway shoe collection looks like an illegal gathering of Gandalf and his mates Grin

Well we've been out for a nice sunny walk which makes a change from a walk, a pokemon walk, a McWalk, a muddy walk or a bloody walk. Grin
We've had a picnic too. Isn't it spiffing that it's legal to have a picnic this Easter!

That was our first lockdown breach very early on... stopping to have lunch on a 6 mile walk.

Rocka I'd complain that they questioned children in the absence of parents.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/04/2021 07:57

Just seen a headline that Boris is expected to announce twice weekly testing for all adults today.
So what's the fucking point in the testing for big events he's been so fucking proud of this week?

Worldgonecrazy · 05/04/2021 07:59

When are the journalists going to start doing their jobs?

Why are we tolerating’leaks’ of what the announcements are going to be?

I hate this country so much right now!

Wilberforce42 · 05/04/2021 08:04

@Worldgonecrazy I’m with you on that

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/04/2021 08:34

THIS is the reason for the slow unlocking and the endless fear campaign!! I almost feel stupid for not realising it sooner.
Very short clip from an American news interview but without a doubt we have the same policy here. Look how the roadmap conveniently ends around the same time as most adults should have received at least one vaccine dose.

If nothing else, whilst I point blank refuse to be manipulated and despise the idea that we are all faithfully waiting for our freedoms to be kindly “given” back by our government, it at least gives me a tiny bit of hope that they can’t reasonably continue these lockdowns past the summer, even though they might still lock most people inside the UK for this year.

Times readers are VERY sceptical about this!

SirSamuelVimes · 05/04/2021 09:57

Unless it's a legal requirement and enforced (logistically too difficult I think?) they can go whistle.

WouldBeGood · 05/04/2021 10:11

Who’s going to agree to that? And surely they can’t try to enforce medical testing by law?

bakingcupcakes · 05/04/2021 10:18

My horror at mass testing is entwined with the damage to the environment not to mention the actual cost. The amount of plastic involved in just one of those tests (I have a box that I've stopped using) is obscene. The idea that everyone will be encouraged to do it twice a week every week is abhorrent. I feel like we're doomed.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/04/2021 10:26

My second vaccine dose is just before the June 21st date. Our area is ahead, but pretty much all CEVs and vast majority of 50+ should be covered by round 2 and virtually all adults by round 1. Plus low summer rates anyway.

35+ were being invited around here over the weekend! There have been spare slots avaliable, I'm guessing take-up is lower with Easter, particularly with side effects getting more strong in younger age groups.

I'll get my second dose done, but if I feel like I did first time around, it would certainly make me think twice about any boosters. I think progress is being made on Pfizer for secondary age. Mine aren't that age group yet, but I'd find it hard to consent for those kinds of side effects on my children for little personal gain. They have their flu vaccines but it's never put them in bed for a day. It's certainly a watch this space issue.

I just can't wrap my head around the passports/ testing/ masks agenda. Continuing to phase easing of restrictions and maintain caution I can grasp, frustrating as it is. But introducing/ continuing these measures beyond the initial distribution of vaccinations? Surely that undermines the message about their efficacy.

Remember 2018/19 when we were killing the planet with disposable cups? All the litter bins are rammed with the things now from all the mid-walk take-away coffee.

I never thought I'd miss virtue signalling over wanky bamboo cups Grin

Acorn, I think if we'd known before the police left that they'd continued to ask DS a few questions knowing we weren't there, then we would have said something to them at the time.

To give them some credit, they'd not made any attempt to enter the house, and had tried to call me when DS said that we were out.

There is no way that I will be doing voluntary covid tests at home. Why on earth would I test myself "just in case"? It's bonkers! Hopefully all the tests that the govt bought will be used up sooner rather than later, and then they can stop all this nonsense.

110APiccadilly · 05/04/2021 10:40

No way on earth am I doing unpleasant testing with a (relatively) high false positive rate.

In lighter news, have you heard about that Johnson & Johnson vaccine? The manufacturers claim it will mean no more tiers.

Stuffin · 05/04/2021 10:52

No way am I doing LFTs. As they are voluntary then I will just ignore it but wait for the MN threads trying to scare and shame people for not doing them.

Completely with you!
Stuffin · 05/04/2021 11:33

Oh I see the MN threads about the tests have already started. Thought at least the covid police would wait a bit longer than a couple of hours to start posting.

bakingcupcakes · 05/04/2021 12:39

@BogRollBOGOF I know. I felt slightly stressed when I cleared out my car for recycle week the other day. The amount of cardboard packaging was ridiculous. We've eaten out in the car a lot this week and when we got Nandos the other day every single item came in it's own cardboard box. We ordered meals so I kind of thought it'd all be lumped into two but no we had 6 boxes all in a large paper bag. Grin

Um..of course

They would be accused of all sorts if they didn't box it separately.

Don't like waste, don't order that kind of thing.

I don't have an issue with it but why use the stuff that causes waste and then moan about waste!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/04/2021 13:48

Interesting on the FCO page. Looks like they'll be treating the islands separately like they did last year.
Anyway, I'm staying away from media/social media until the announcement as it just fuels my anxiety, so for now my fellow ADs, I'll see you later.

They say the take up of vaccines is 60% in London probably lower in other cities, what makes them think these folks will do a twice weekly test
