Crawling back to normality slightly slower than a tortoise taking the scenic route...

Congratulations @Worldgonecrazy !

DS2's bubble has burst here, but looking on the bright side it's only a few days until the holidays at least.

ISaySteadyOn · 30/03/2021 14:18

I just hope schools don't shut again after Easter holidays.

TabbyStar · 30/03/2021 15:53

I'm fit and heathy but I have an inherited condition that could kill me this afternoon or could never affect me. Being fit and healthy does protect against it though.

This bubble burst thing annoys me as a sign of whether the virus is spreading, how many kids are actually ill, and how many perfectly healthy kids have they sent home? Though probably because I have a friend and my DM that catastrophises about it so their dementoring winds me up!

AcornAutumn · 30/03/2021 18:20

Concerned to see signs about rapid covid testing at London Bridge station today - free of charge

That's next I guess....have to be tested before using public transport

The nightmare doesn't stop and now I think my pessimism was misplaced; things might turn out worse than I thought.

We talked about hip flasks earlier in the thread. I found one...I got it free at the Alchemist bar, which is the kind of place you can have a dry ice feature in your cocktail. So lucky to have been part of that era.

Iheartmysmart · 30/03/2021 18:42

Oh @AcornAutumn you sound so sad. I’d love to give you a huge hug and tell you everything will turn out okay. And it will be, the tide is turning slowly among the BDs and I can’t see how they can justify keeping these restrictions much longer when less than 0.25% of those tested in the last 24 hours were positive.

Think I was at that point a couple of weeks ago, just couldn’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. It seems to come in waves and things don’t seem quite so bleak at the moment. I really hope it’s the same for you Flowers

Take care of yourself.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 30/03/2021 18:49

Much love @AcornAutumn. I hear you.

chocolatesweets · 30/03/2021 19:02

Hi everyone, feeling tired again recently. I think it's because playgroup is closed because of the holidays. It's so much easier when I have 2 hours to do things, 3 mornings a week to clean, sort out the house and just have a cup of tea in peace.

So tired after a year in lockdown too. I think we'll lockdown again next winter and I can't get excited about the kids starting nursery school either because I just don't believe it's going to happen.

Our house is a mess too and things need replacing a lot sooner than we thought. It's all well and good locking down and staying indoors but the work is still here. Kids need attention and stimulation. I feel like it's all too much and I can't be bothered trying because I feel like I'm failing. Things need painting and we need a new sofa.

ISaySteadyOn · 30/03/2021 19:08

@AcornAutumn, I get it Flowers. I am feeling flat today. I feel like no progress in liberty has been made.

@chocolatesweets, Flowers for you too.

MercyBooth · 30/03/2021 19:23

Much love to you @AcornAutumn Flowers I hear you!!

AcornAutumn · 30/03/2021 19:26

Thanks all

Chocolate I hear you.

I was talking to my sister at the weekend and I said "I don't understand why I've fallen in a hole again"

But this week, I think maybe it's being surrounded by people who still believe the lies.

And now Bloody Biden is asking state governors to reinstate mask laws...I thought he'd have America back in lockdown as soon as he took office but it just seems he is on a slight delay.

TabbyStar · 30/03/2021 19:45

My DM (87) has been going on about people breaking the rules for a while now, so I enjoyed the following conversation with her:
Her: Jill has come round a couple of times and we've sat inside.
Me: That's illegal.
Her: But we've both had our vaccinations.
Me: it's still illegal.
Her: Is it? We had the door open and she sat by the door.
Me: Yep, illegal
Her: Do they want an 87 year old to die of pneumonia sat outside?
Me: At least it won't be covid! Grin

She knew I was winding her up mind!

110APiccadilly · 30/03/2021 19:53

I like your style Tabby.

I went swimming in the sea today (in Wales, no pools open yet, even outdoors) as my back is increasingly playing up. I was pleased to find some of my cold water acclimatisation from autumn seemed to have stayed with me. I didn't stay in long though - partly because I'd left DD on the beach with DH and you never can tell when she's going to be hungry.

Out of the blue question for all of you. If you have ever watched the Disney version of Robin Hood, did you find Robin rather attractive? Or his voice at least?

Yes Blush
ISaySteadyOn · 30/03/2021 21:57

Oh good. Me too Blush. I know we're not the only ones on MN cos there was a whole thread about it once. And we watched it tonight.

AcornAutumn · 30/03/2021 23:11

ISay that was an unexpected question!

Here's another...

Those dartboards with soft tips.

If i get a board with a stand, so it can be packed away, will the noise be annoying for neighbours?

My sister likes games so it would be a good thing to do when she cones by. And quite easy to play given it's a small flat!!

MercyBooth · 30/03/2021 23:26

Bra Fitting Deemed Non Essential
22 degrees here tomorrow so watch out world. You are about to see the consequences of closing close contact services for so long (which has disproportionately affected women) Havent been able to wear a bra since the weekend before Christmas. In fact the last time i wore one was the Saturday of the sensationalist press conference that "cancelled" Christmas.
And people think its the non wearing of masks they need to worry about.

110APiccadilly · 31/03/2021 05:17

I'm still waiting to be able to go to a shop and buy any clothes which fit my four months post partum body/are good for breastfeeding.

Wales: where baby clothes are essential but clothes for mothers are not.

chocolatesweets · 31/03/2021 06:13

@110APiccadilly yes!!Angry

Worldgonecrazy · 31/03/2021 06:15

@110APiccadilly if you can get over the border to Cribbc Causeway, the marks and spencers there has quite a lot of clothing you have to walk through on your way to the food hall .....

TabbyStar · 31/03/2021 06:38

Glad you got a swim 110APiccadilly, the sea must be really cold! My back is bad too, I think in part because of no swimming. It's a family session most of the day today because of the weather at my gym, which is a bit annoying for those of us who want to swim, but back to normal hours tomorrow with only three hours set aside for families so I'll go a second time then, and over the weekend. It's a bit sad with the cafe all closed too. They sent out an email saying that from the 12 April we'll be able to sit in the clubroom (cafe) to work or relax but if we get a drink or something to eat we'll have to go outside! (Then once we've eaten we can come back in again!)

BogRollBOGOF · 31/03/2021 07:51

@110APiccadilly

I'm still waiting to be able to go to a shop and buy any clothes which fit my four months post partum body/are good for breastfeeding.

I had to buy a new wardrobe after DS1 was born because of the EMCS and two stones.i carried large mahoosive so had to wear under the bump gear, but that them lay on the CS wound. It waa Christmas/ New Year too so ended up ordering more mateenity wear online ASAP. It got a few months before I just needed a larger size of normal clothing, and at least all got reused in the early and post-natal stages of DS2.

I remember the postman handing mr the only wearable trousers I owned hoping that the 10 day old baby and oversize cardigan were sufficirnt distractions from not having any trousers on.

The other issue waa seasonality. Seconf pregnancy Inhad to buy winter mat wear as the pregnancies were 3 months off, so DS1's was largely summer/ autumn and by the time I hit winter, I was too SPDed to leave the house much, didn't fit much maternity wear and happy to sit in a 15⁰C house in very litglr clothing at 50% more than my usual size. DS2 was born in the spring so I suddwnly needed long sleeves and jumpers from October for the next 6 months.

Fortubately the DCs seem to be managing without a check on their school shoes. The often size-up at Feb half term. Surprising as they have shot up!

Morning all. Happy to report that my estate sounded like party central last night! Rule of whatever number went out the window with our new next door neighbours by mid afternoon, and by ten there were a few bonfires going on in various back gardens, plus music, and generally just happy sounds of life. I imagine there'll be a few sore heads this morning!

BogRollBOGOF · 31/03/2021 09:46

Yesterday DS2 and I went off to a beauty spot, more of a local one than touristy. There was a lovely vibe of young adults hanging out together in the early evening sun.

Earlier in the day, the park was busy with clusters of picnic blankets. A glorious sight. It's a lovely park, but muddy in the winter. Last winter a raised, flat, solid path was laid by the river which is brilliant but far too popular for its own good. It's OK now the grass is passable, but the clumps of pèople strolling in blocks across the whole bloody path made it a no-go zone for anyone wanting to move over 1mph per hour!

With (English) beer gardens and outdoor cafés open in a couple of weeks, along with the shops, there shouldn't be all the "flocking" of last May and the assocoated media outrage. Lets face it, British people do surge outside as soon as there's enough sunshine to warrant taking off your jacket!
