I wonder if the Royal Family stepped in for this to happen

If the comment about skin tone was said to Harry before he and Meghan were engaged, in any kind of 'are you sure about her, think what the children would look like' sense, then it doesn't really matter how well-intentioned the comments while she was pregnant might have been. Both Harry and Meghan would view them through the lens of that first conversation.

Piers is just a pompous, entitled man who has made a lot of money from supposedly ‘telling it like it is

Can he repent for specific mistakes and be allowed to explain or must he be forever struck off?

Again, I'm not disputing that some of his behaviour has been OTT

One cannot repent for mistakes of you don’t actually believe that you made a mistake

@lollipoprainbow I’m glad she did. He will be missed. He was great.

lollipoprainbow · 10/03/2021 09:09

@FuckyouBrennan in your opinion ! The majority of people on here can't stand him.

FuckyouBrennan · 10/03/2021 09:11

Yes, I’m sharing my opinion. I thought he was great and I think it’s shit he’s left. It’ll be extremely boring now with Susanna and whoever replaces him,

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2021 09:12

At what point will everyone stop talking about him? Surely if people can't stand him the best action would be to draw a line and stop talking about him?
He's no longer on GMB.

IrmaFayLear · 10/03/2021 09:17

I think Susannah thinks rather too much of herself. I much prefer Ranvir Singh - humorous and more intelligent.

Piers Morgan was exhausting and boorish. But not bland, I suppose.

Anyway, the fact that he was so hung up on MM made me think that their erstwhile “friendship” was a bit more than that.... A man scorned, methinks....

twelly · 10/03/2021 09:26

MN is not a cross section of society, PM challenges all the time - some of which I believe is playing devils advocate sometimes he believes himself. His views are echoed by a large proportion of the population , ok he appears to have resigned but we need people like him to challenge, the danger is without the likes of PM a lot of people feel their views are ignored and in addition it forces people to think about their own views. So we end up with bland journalism agreeing with the norm and the latest view - unable to challenge for fear of being accused of hate speech for whatever issue it is. This will make a huge part of the population feel again they can't discuss or voice options - I feel that lack of discussion polarises views which is not good for society.

The story is still news, so it is understandable as to why people are still discussing this issue

Also, I think the issue of racism and mental health issue are triggers for many
We are in the midst of a pandemic when many are struggling with their mental health, so to have Piers seemingly dismiss mental health concerns (particularly when many believe that it is part of an orchestrated campaign to destroy someone just because she cut him off)
Is upsetting

It's certainly knocked Covid off the front pages. hardly heard a thing about it since this all kicked off...

But that's not the point sparkling.

Him and itv have played a blinder.

He made unacceptable comments - 42,000 complaints.

He has walked, so they all go ah well he doesn't work there anymore.

In no other world would this be ok.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 10/03/2021 09:33

Susanna is just an ornament, sitting there in her wonderbra smirking at what Piers says. She must be fuming she might actually have to speak now.

42,000 OFCOM complaints may not appear to be a large number , but considering it is second to the Shilpa Shetty/ Jade Goody incident it is a sizeable number.
RootyT00t · 10/03/2021 09:43

At least back then, and I'm not defending her actions, Jade took a pounding. As did Roxanne Pallet (and I can't stand her).

Now, it seems to be you can just quit and all is fine.
@floweryscarf I love James Corden but haven't had time..maybe the wknd. That's I do my msg at night Grin.

I know people can't see it but I'm convinced Harry is going to be the saving of this RF! He's got character and that's in short supply everywhere.

I'm willing to bet good money on it.
He's got character? You mean the man who was too embarrassed to get help for his pregnant wife when she told him she was suicidal. Oprah went very easy on that one didn't she.

We've seen how mental health is stigmatised- look at all the people backing Piers saying they agree with him. Interesting it's Harry you're blaming in all this, not the institution that refused Meghan help when she asked for it

This... totally. I do not understand that the majority of people on this thread don't seem to get this. Bland, controlled, safe journalism. Piers Morgan for all his faults was prepared to take the flack and stand up and be counted. He got to the heart of the matter and he constantly challenged. This is proper journalism. It is very worrying to me where we will end up. Bigger picture folks...
JustNotFunAnymore · 10/03/2021 10:37

@itsgettingwierd

His insta this morning.

Obviously he's put it that he stands by what he said and people can't handle it.

Ignores the fact he's the one who flounced when called out by numerous people on his behaviour.

The irony!!

There's always Infowars for those of you who prefer the ranty, lunatic type of 'broadcaster'. Smile
RootyT00t · 10/03/2021 11:03

@ancientgran not his fault.

42,000 OFCOM complaints

Of course there have been many complaints. The whole thing feels like a well orchestrated attack (people on Twitter explaining other randoms how to fill in an Ofcom form!)

It's a disgrace how the Ofcom institution we all pay for with our taxes can be hijacked to suit a specific agenda

This is disingenuous and is minimising concerns about mental health We have spent the past year talking about mental health issues I stopped watching GMB a long time ago because I didn’t enjoy Piers’ brand of broadcasting. However, I realised that some people enjoyed watching him shout and holler and that is their prerogative I think that the game changer for many ( including myself) was his dismissal of Meghan’s mental health issues. This resonated with many people who may for the first time in their lives had to deal with mental health problems due to the effects of Covid. Piers had a massive platform and by dismissing mental health concerns he was potentially ( unintentionally) going into dangerous territory I think people such as Piers are so intent on getting the ‘story’ that they fail to think of the possible ramifications of their actions. A few weeks ago he received death threats . I as a fellow human had nothing but compassion for him as I could imagine how fearful he was for his own safety and that of his family. It’s just a shame that he is unable to have that same compassion for others
