Does anyone else think that the Harry & Meghan show isn't going to be that explosive?

I really doubt that loads of dirt will be raked, or muck spread. I'm guessing that there will be a few "it was hard to speak" type complaints, which the media will blow up, but that it's not actually going to be as exciting as we're all being led to believe?

@HmmmmmmInteresting

Dislike her (or both of them) all you like but KK’s level of fame puts MM’s in the shade. There really isn’t a comparison. Maybe one day but not now.

KK is nowhere near as famous as MM is now. Says a lot about your world if you think otherwise. Butt implants and makeup aren't really the main focus of most people. If I asked my mum who KK was she wouldn't have a clue. MM is on the news and on the front pages of papers every single day. I think the last time KK was in the news was when her jewellery got stolen, and that was ages ago.

I disagree. British papers maybe but not globally and especially not America. KK has just announced her divorced. I don’t follow her but still saw it was the breaking news headlines all over.

My mum would have a clue who both of them are but maybe she’s just a bit more alert?

UltimateBlends · 07/03/2021 22:30

I understand it will be shown to a global audience.. but are other countries really bothered? Beside the UK and prehaps America, does anyone outside of these countries really care?

These are genuine questions I am wondering.
I would love to know if average American even cares about a British price and an actress who was never very famous?

@Same4Walls

I'm not an American but I doubt Meghan is as well known as Kim Kardashian. Although I'm happy to be proven wrong.

I don't follow her but she was definitely in the news no more than a week ago regarding her divorce which was obviously big celebrity news in America.

A week ago versus MM's presence in the news every day? Would an Oprah interview with KK garner the same amount of excitement MM's appearance has? Thread upon thread on Mumsnet? I've never seen KK mentioned on Mumsnet until this person mentioned her just now.

The Meghan haters have overplayed their hand to the extent that they can't pretend that she is not a major talking point and somebody who is front and centre focus most of the time.

I think the media have blown it out of proportion and viewers will be disappointed if they're waiting for massively damning and explosive content

Go on twitter for the answer. Lots of people from Australia, Canada and Africa asking where they can watch.

H&M have fallen out with too many people. You can fall out with someone, even a couple of people. But when you have fall outs with so many people like they do, it's pretty obvious that they are a big part of the problem.

They have their freedom and they could have privacy which they claim to want. But...they're selling a 2 hour exposé to one of the most famous talk show hosts on earth and it's being broadcast globally for $$$$$$$$. The fact that they're giving this interview, when they could sit in their mansion with total privacy, tells me they don't really want privacy. I don't know wtf they do want, but it sure ain't privacy!

Who have they fallen out with?

But MN is predominantly a UK site so it's hard to compare. I imagine more Americans would tune into an Oprah exclusive interview with Kim than Meghan. Just because she's constantly in the news at the moment doesn't mean she is as popular overall as someone like Kim.

Yeah, I'm taking a punt that your mum is more alert to news from people like Kim Kardashian than my mum is, LOL.

WaggishDancer · 07/03/2021 22:39

@HmmmmmmInteresting American equivalent of our polls say Kim Kardashian is the second most famous person. today.yougov.com/topics/entertainment/explore/tv_personality/Kim_Kardashian

Harry is 55th. today.yougov.com/topics/international/explore/public_figure/Prince_Harry

Whilst Meghan is the 946th most famous person in the States. today.yougov.com/topics/international/explore/public_figure/Meghan_Duchess_of_Sussex

There is a reason why Meghan was relatively unknown before she married Harry. Kim was well known before her recent marriages.

The advertising slots during it are being sold for a ridiculous amount so I guess they must think a lot of people in the US are interested.
WhatsTheEffingPoint · 07/03/2021 22:41

How many times are we going to hear them put their side of the story across ?!

Harry grew up with all this, he knew what life in the rf was like, he's watched his brother take his time with Kate before their wedding so its not like he's been blindsided all of a sudden.

Yes there have been time when he's got pissed off with the press being in his face but then at the same time he has used the press to spread the word about things he wanted to like the invictus games. You cant have it all your own way and I think any cleb if the were being honest would say the same.

As for Meghan well as the saying goes there's no smoke without fire, to have multiple people make complaints/reports over her behaviour etc then you need to look at the common denomination which is her.

I think bringing up Diana is poor taste, you have no idea what she would have thought/said, yes she was harassed by the press but if you watch any documentary about her they will all say she courted the press to suit her.

I guess nothing new is going to be reviled and it's not going to put anything to bed, it will be interesting to see if this is the last 'our side of the story interview they do. If the do end up doing more it will just prove a point that they are just in love with their own voices and self importance.

Ah, YouGov. That unbiased arbiter of truth. Is that the same YouGov that said nobody was interested in hearing from Meghan and Harry? Well that aged well. Let's see the viewing figures in a few days then Grin

She MUST be well-educated if she knows what's going on with the Kardashians. Good for her Grin

I think they'll climb up a few places after tonight Wink

Absolutely. If Harry is already is 55th (which is massive, considering he is British), they'll be in the top 10 after Oprah.
HmmmmmmInteresting · 07/03/2021 23:11

Seeing as the poll is from December 2020 as well

I definitely think she will become more well known but I don't think it will be for long as surely after tonights interview they wont have anything else left to keep them as relevant as other big names. Just using Kim for an example again she had her marriage to Kanye, her reality show which went on for years, plus exposure through her parents and siblings and now her divorce.

I'm sure there will still be the odd story about them such as when they do work with Netflix and when she has the baby but I'm genuinely struggling to think what Meghan will have to further increase her 'rating' once she's done the interview.

Unlike KK who has lots to keep her relevant???

HmmmmmmInteresting · 07/03/2021 23:23

This. I've never met a child with their first utterance being a word like this and I work in speech and language with children.

Please, Oprah, call them out on this! It is infuriating many people! We have speech experts on the thread hoping you bring this up. Maybe this is the scoop we will get!

Well not much any more but shes been in the news for decades so there will naturally be curiosity of her life and children in future but it's taken her decades to be as well known as she is now despite all the reasons for being in the news. I was just musing aloud that I don't see Meghan having anywhere near as much as Kim did to keep her in the news for a sustained length of time for her to be more well known.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 07/03/2021 23:29

It's probably not that interesting, my guess is Harry worded it badly. Maybe the kid attempted it. But then the mentioning of 3 syllables sounds like he said the full word. God knows! The documentary will be a load of waffle anyway.

I was being sarcastic.
