Best song of the 90s

DH and I had a few wines last night and fell down a YouTube rabbit hole listening to 90s music. We then got into a heated debate about what the best song of the 90s was.

My vote - Set You Free by NTrance

His vote - Live Forever by Oasis

For clarity, we were both mid teens during this decade.

What's your stand out song of the 90s?

More human than human- white zombie. Takes me straight back to walking into a nightclub, under age, and and heat and dry ice that would blast you as you walked in.

I was a teen in the 90s. Can't have a favourite song, because everything reminds me of growing up, but I was def not a fan of mainstream. Totp in the early 90s was so much more diverse than the end.

Oh my word, what a fantastic thread! So many have been mentioned already, add God Is A DJ by Faithless, Dreaming by the Lilac Time, Only Love Can Break Your Heart by Saint Etienne. I'm off down the rabbit hole, my era! Unfinished Sympathy, Born Slippy and Fools Gold still get me turning the volume up. Agree with Jagged Little Pill, it was an absolute banging album and I still listen to it loud.
Oh and I was playing Second Coming by the Stone Roses in my car today funnily enough so thanks for the mentions upthread! Tears, Ten Story Love Song and Love Spreads, superb!

Sweetpea84 · 07/03/2021 01:41

@mommybunny

Funny, I’ve never heard of a lot of these. I’m American and didn’t move to the U.K. till 2000 so that must be why so many of the popular ones on this thread have escaped me. We certainly got our share of Oasis but there wasn’t much else in the way of British pop in the 90s. The 80s were an entirely different matter.

Oh man.
You totally showed up at the wrong time.

I moved to England from Texas in 1995 right at the height of BritPop. It was the best.

Jamiroquai was my absolute favorite 🤩
You cannot beat "Return of the Space Cowboy" for sheer awesomeness!

Elastica's "Connection" comes a close 2nd!

23PissOffAvenueWF · 07/03/2021 02:34

Sooo many to choose from - like many others, this was my hey day.

If I had to pick, I’d choose my happy song that instantly transports me back to that carefree, fun time of life - Moloko, Sing it Back.
