I liked it it was easy watching non thinking lockdown type of thing.

Janaih · 05/03/2021 18:07

I turned it off after 15 mins it was naff. Just found myself disappointed in the actors involved.

RunningFromInsanity · 05/03/2021 18:09

Yes. It’s a bit cringy but so addictive.

AnathemaPulsifer · 05/03/2021 18:12

I loved it. Have since read the books.

wonderstuff · 05/03/2021 18:12

Its brilliant, even Dh loved it.

newcarcoming · 05/03/2021 18:12

It's not the best acting wise, but it's quite pleasing on the eyes in many ways and I don't just mean the duke.

StanfordPines · 05/03/2021 18:14

I loved it. It was utter sugary dross but great at the same time.

Be prepared for some really rather intense bedroom scenes though.

Frenchfancy · 05/03/2021 18:17

As a lifelong Austin fan I didn't want to watch it. But if you ignore any historical accuracy and pretend it is a fictional universe then it is brilliant.

williowrosenburg · 05/03/2021 18:19

It's basically a clash of 50 shades and gossip girl in regency dresses!

Not bad, totally watchable, but a bit cringey in some places.

FatPatty · 05/03/2021 18:22

Total escapism. It’s not really a period drama, it’s Gossip Girl in regency costumes. I love it Grin

FatPatty · 05/03/2021 18:22

@williowrosenburg cross post!

williowrosenburg · 05/03/2021 18:25

@FatPatty hahaha glad I'm not the only one who thought so.
Do love that it's narrated by Julie andrews. Absolutely love her!

fruitpastille · 05/03/2021 18:26

After 15 mins I thought WTF but carried on watching and became totally addicted (dh too)

Littlebelina · 05/03/2021 18:33

Also agreed with regency gossip girl. Enjoyed it, will watch next series and thought they did a good job fleshing out the source material. I read the book afterwards and enjoyed it more than I thought but thought the series expanded the world nicely. (Probably won't rush to read the other books unless 99p on kindle).

In short, frothy lockdown escapism that won't change the world but was very enjoyable (if a little bonktastic)

UnsolicitedDickPic · 05/03/2021 18:35

I loved it, despite thinking I would dislike it on the basis of being a big one for historical accuracy. It was just so much fun! I definitely wouldn't watch it with my Nanna though - holy moly!

needadvice54321 · 05/03/2021 18:36

It's pretty tongue in cheek and cringey but I loved it Grin

So easy to watch!

Crookairroad · 05/03/2021 18:37

I loved it. The costumes and scenery were amazing.

Bookworm19 · 05/03/2021 18:37

A little naff but overall enjoyable and an easy watch without too much mental energy needed.

Tongue in cheek... idk

As described on another thread quite a lot of ‘face in muff’

If you like to watch sex in costume you will enjoy.

Whiskyinajar · 05/03/2021 18:53

Jane Austen produced by The Playboy channel. It’s good fun, OTT on sex (not nearly so much sex in the books).

ProperVexed · 05/03/2021 18:54

Quite different from the normal period costume dramas. The Duke....ooooh...gave me the fanny gallops and my nether regions have been dormant for years.
DH walked in during one of the many sex scenes and asked if I was watching Victorian porn. "Regency, darling!" said I.

PuppyMonkey · 05/03/2021 18:55

It was bloody terrible. Naff and not in an amusing or entertaining way. I only lasted one episode.
