I didn’t like it, totally inaccurate portrayal of the period. Lead actor was like a block of wood, sex scenes cringeworthy.
Beautiful costumes though.

Daisydoesnt · 05/03/2021 18:56

Enjoyed the costumes and sets but the scene where a female character rapes her husband left me feeling queasy. Turned it off at that point- not pleasant at all.

UhtredRagnarson · 05/03/2021 18:57

Who knows? I turned it off within less than a minute.

LemonRoses · 05/03/2021 18:58

Brilliantly ham and ironic humour with lots of continuity and ‘of the period’ gaffs. Hilarious. Excellent.

Standrewsschool · 05/03/2021 19:02

Read the books then watched the series.

The tv series was okay, but deviated from the books quite a lot (even introducing new characters). However, as frothy, light (and raunchy) entertainment, it’s fine.

The costumes are gorgeous, despite their gaudy colours.

doadeer · 05/03/2021 19:05

It's just a regency romance so if you like that then yes!

Whiskyinajar · 05/03/2021 19:38

Definitely leave your history hat at the door. 😁

Ahbahbahbah · 05/03/2021 19:38

You have to view it as a sort of alternative world - there’s a brief passing reference (lady Danbury talking to the duke) to the history of race relations being very different in the Bridgerton universe, and that’s why the casting is so diverse, but they don’t expand on it. Once you accept that it’s a different universe you can ignore anything that’s historically inaccurate.

Lots and lots of bonking in costume, careful who you watch it with!

BlueThistles · 05/03/2021 19:52

I'm conflicted too OP.... not sure it's my thing..

I actually started Outlander after much praise from people.. I turned it off after several sexually violent episodes... definitely not for me.. and so disappointed as it's filmed in locations near where I live.. Flowers

Erm, it really isn’t just that.
Bluewavescrashing · 05/03/2021 20:14

Phoar.

That is all.

doadeer · 05/03/2021 20:34

Puppymonkey

How is it anymore than that?

I read the books as a teen when I loved Mills and Boon

Mara2021 · 05/03/2021 20:45

Alternative universe Gossip Girl in regency costumes about sums it up. Perfect way of passing a few hours in Lockdown Land, just don't expect it to be historically accurate :D

PurpleFadesToGreen · 05/03/2021 21:19

I enjoyed it and it really isn't something I'd normally watch.

Just take it at face value.

I could listen to Lady Danbury and Queen Charlotte talk all day long though.

Bawdrip · 05/03/2021 21:32

It's entertaining enough. Great music, lovely costumes. The lead actor- Daphne?- was dreadful though. So many close ups on starey wooden face, it got irritating.

cravingthelook · 05/03/2021 21:33

It's brilliant, tongue in cheek all the way!

PuppyMonkey · 05/03/2021 21:39

@doadeer I’ve not read the books but from what I saw ( before I decided my life was too short) it’s not your typical regency romance drama. Did you actually watch it?

AntiHop · 05/03/2021 21:45

I nearly switched off about half way through the first episode. I'm glad I perserved.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 05/03/2021 22:19

Loved it. I have no shame - I watched it for the Duke.

SmednotaSmoo · 05/03/2021 22:21

It’s total gossipy sexy trash, and not at all like the usual thing I would watch and read.

I loved it...

Also the production (costumes, sets) is amazing.

GloomyWaters · 05/03/2021 23:18

Thanks everyone. Made it to 40mins...ummm not really feeling it switched off...may re visit it

First 1 or 2 I was a bit meh about , but then I think it picked up.

Like said earlier not my usual choice of TV.

IdblowJonSnow · 06/03/2021 00:01

Loved it. Enjoy!

Serin · 06/03/2021 00:06

I liked it, it's a bit of froth to cheer up lockdown.

doadeer · 06/03/2021 08:10

Yes I did watch it. The books are very typical Mills and Boon style regency romance. In the series the only difference was they introduced characters of different ethnicities and they had classical versions of pop music. But overall... It's still just a regency romance in my opinion 🤷‍♀️. It's never going to win a bafta (well it shouldn't!)
