How many meatballs is a portion...?

I know this thread is probably going to get a load of people saying that they eat half a meatball and are full for 4 days, but curious to know how many meatballs you would plate up if having spaghetti and meatballs?

For myself and dp, i would probably use a full pack of 12, so 6 each (Blush) as it seemed a waste to leave some that wouldnt be enough for another meal, and would likely just get wasted.

However last night i plated up 4 each, and put the other 4 in the fridge (cooked and in sauce) and 4 seemed like a much better portion, where i was full but not uncomfortably so.

So whats the general consensus? How many meatballs is a portion??

I have bought IKEA meatballs and I think we had six each. I do tend to make meatballs though and with 500g of pork mince plus two apples grated in and a potato also grated in to it it makes 12 big meatballs and it’s four each. I fry them a little then add gravy and finish them off by poaching them.

Omg through last time I did a meatball pasta bake I put TWO PACKS OF 24 in for 3.5 of us. I did freeze a couple portions though. I reckon we probably had 8 to 10 each tho (3 adults) and the 4 year old probably had 3 or 4.

Does it make it better that they were the smallish ones tho?

And love the oh so typical mumsnet comment I'm disbelief that someone bought readymade meatballs 🤣. So predictable! (I used a jar sauce if that's relevant too🙈🙈🤣🤣)

@steppemum

given that meatballs are different sixes, then look at the weight of the pack.

A standard meat portion is 100g.

But most people in uk serve up to 2x that amount.

One thing I have been doing over the last few years is actually looking at the amount of meat. I now usually serve 100g per person, and pad out the sauce with veg. Much healthier.

The Pinch of Nom recipe books are based on 100g portions, I showed my rugby player dp 100g of cooked chicken curry and he was very upset 🤣. I stick to 100g when I'm doing 1200 calories a day so I wouldn't say it's a standard amount of meat for a main meal.

It completely depends on the size, quality and how much crappy filler has been added.

Well, we had 48 meatballs in a pasta bake tonight, between 2 adults and 2 kids.
BUT, they were tiny -about 350 g total aparently, so 7 or 8 g each.

Usually 3 or 4, depending on size. But I always add a lot of veg into the sauce so it is more than enough.

Plus we cut back on food since 1st lockdown to slim down and staying in the normal range.

I would quite happily eat 6-8... but started being more careful about portion control when I realised just how much weight I've put on over the last year.
Now I make 3 per portion.
