How many meatballs is a portion...?

I know this thread is probably going to get a load of people saying that they eat half a meatball and are full for 4 days, but curious to know how many meatballs you would plate up if having spaghetti and meatballs?

For myself and dp, i would probably use a full pack of 12, so 6 each (Blush) as it seemed a waste to leave some that wouldnt be enough for another meal, and would likely just get wasted.

However last night i plated up 4 each, and put the other 4 in the fridge (cooked and in sauce) and 4 seemed like a much better portion, where i was full but not uncomfortably so.

So whats the general consensus? How many meatballs is a portion??

Depends on the size - we get a pack of 24 and we have 8 each and DD has 4, with 4 leftover. But they are small-ish ones.

Deadringer · 05/03/2021 10:37

About 6 i think, but if there were any left over we would polish them off too.

jillandhersprite · 05/03/2021 10:37

The pack we buy in Aldi is a lot more - the kids get 4 each, adults get 6 each and there's 3 or 4 left for second helpings...

We use a pack of 12 between three of us.

intheenddoesitreallymatter · 05/03/2021 10:37

Four is our usual as a 12 pack leaves one leftover portion for one of us to take to work —I hate making packed lunches!—

However it isn’t uncommon for us to have 2-6. Who can say no to sperg and merbs!

ScottishStottie · 05/03/2021 10:38

They are a smallish size, the packs you can get in tesco that come in either 12 or 24. Maybe 6 isnt such a large amount then, perhaps it seems like more as i love a ton of spaghetti with it... 😂

I'd say 6, love spaghetti and meatballs 😋

zzzooomwatcher · 05/03/2021 10:39

Depends on the size of the meatball surely

SingingWaffleDoggy · 05/03/2021 10:39

We’d eat the 12 between 3 (well, 2) of us. 4 for me, 5 for DH, 1 token one for DD who won’t eat it anyway then I’d realise that 2 left isn’t enough for a leftovers portion so add one each to our plates!

LarsErickssong · 05/03/2021 10:39

We tend to have 4 each (3 adults) but I don't think it's quite enough really I think 6 would be ideal, Tesco only do packs of 12 or 24 though so if I got the 24 pack it would be 8 which would be too many. Thinking about it though the best option is probably to buy 24 and save a portion for lunch the next day.

Lyricallie · 05/03/2021 10:40

I'm not actually sure, depends on the size lol.

Usually it's about 125g of pork mince. When my fiance had the ones that already are meatballs he had 6. But they were a bit smaller. I think he'd be still hungry with 4.

SingingWaffleDoggy · 05/03/2021 10:40

Oh, and that’s in addition to garlic bread Blush

LarsErickssong · 05/03/2021 10:41

X-post with you OP, if they are the Tesco ones then I definitely don't think 6 is too many.

Morello339 · 05/03/2021 10:41

I buy those 12 packs from supermarkets and the meatballs are sort of ping pong sized. I will have 4 or 5, 9 year old will have 2, maybe 3. He isn't a huge eater.

Smileandtheworldsmileswithyou · 05/03/2021 10:41

Packs of meatballs? Don’t you just make your own? I have about 4 but they aren’t tiny when I make them.

redcandlelight · 05/03/2021 10:43

depends on the size of the meatballs. we usually have about 4 each, maybe 150g per person?

I would never serve meatballs with spaghetti though

AuntieStella · 05/03/2021 10:43

It depends on the size of the meatball!

M&S meatballs are 24 weighing 400g, and Ocado are 12 weighing 336

I aim for anywhere between 100-200g per person (depending on size of person and what's being served with it)

DeepfriedPizza · 05/03/2021 10:44

Obviously op doesn't make their own.

6 each here too

Nope I buy them ready made. I like the convenience 🤷🏽

Was there really any need to be so condescending?
Chasingsquirrels · 05/03/2021 10:47

Aldi Swedish style ones. 20 in a pack.
5 each - there are 3 of us so I freeze the remaining 5.
Except ds1 eats them as a snack, so yesterday had 6 each. Ds2 ate my last one as I was full.

Ellieboolou33 · 05/03/2021 10:47

6-8 for me and husband, kids 4-5.
Although I can do far more if they are IKEA chicken meatballs!

BINGO!
ScottishStottie · 05/03/2021 10:48

@larserickssong i knew there would be some type of condescending posts on the thread, i assumed it would be people telling me 6 was too many, i wasnt expecting to be told off for not making my own 😂

steppemum · 05/03/2021 10:53

well I buy one pack. It is either 20 or 25 depending on the pack.

There are 5 in the family, so if it is a pack of 20 I add lots of mushrooms and some veg to the sauce.
If 25, then less.
so about 4-5 each.

But we don't eat meatballs with spaghetti. I make them in mushroom and passata sauce and serve with rice
