I’m just finishing Hear My Song in Amazon Prime, starring a very young Adrian Dunbar, Tara Fitzgerald and James Nesbit among others.

If you can get through the rousing final five minutes without your toes tapping and your hands clapping you are better than me!

It’s nonsensical, whimsical nostalgia and twee Irish, but marvellous.

Blithe spirit the old version from 1940s. My all time favourite film. It’s in technicolour. Reminds me of my nana xx

magicstar1 · 05/03/2021 13:25

Vacation from Marriage. It's a WW2 movie with Robert Donat and Deborah Kerr. They're in a drab flat, in a boring marriage and old before their time. He gets called up for war, she volunteers too, and they don't see each other for a couple of years. Then they meet up......

@EssexLioness Cry Baby was my favourite movie as a teenager...we were all rockabillies and just adored it. I remember watching it over 300 times lol.

Can anyone remember a fairly recent film, black comedy, two women, possibly spies, cut off victims finger when he was dead to activate his device

Loved it but as you can see , I can barely remember anything about it

BingBongToTheMoon · 05/03/2021 13:29

Virgin suicides

AgentCooper · 05/03/2021 13:29

35 Shots of Rum. It’s a French film from 2008 about a widowed dad and daughter living in Paris, and both of them realising that she’s not a child anymore and things are changing. It’s really slow and beautiful, amazing music.

I warn you though, since having DS I can’t watch it without howling 😭

MaidofKent78 · 05/03/2021 13:30

Was that Spy with Miranda Hart and Jason Statham? That is a really funny film. I loved Jason Statham taking the piss out of himself.

No, not that one m but I have seen it.

I don’t remember a big name in it.
But it’s one of the titles that you instantly forget.
It’s going to annoy me now

I was going to mention the Man Who Sued God also.

On the subject of Australian films The Castle is terrifically funny. Eric Bana is in it. Australians can never get over how he became a bit of a Hollywood heart throb because he always played really dim comic characters in Australian films.

I really like The Castle. The husband is so proud of his wife for very simple cooking 'What are we having today love?' 'Rissoles'. I think the funniest line is 'How did you get that so tasty Love' 'I used the flavour sachet'.

Also Hercules Returns which is about a little independent cinema putting on their first film and not realising it is in Italian so the staff dub it themselves.

I am sure I know the film also.... hmmmm let me think a bit

Rockhopper81 · 05/03/2021 13:38

@Dowser - was it 'The Spy Who Dumped Me', with Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon? Where they put the thumb in a lipstick holder to keep it? Looking past the fact that fingerprint recognition doesn't work that way, of course...

I went to the cinema to see that, and found it surprisingly enjoyable! Not likely to win any awards, but an easy watch, I'd watch it again. Smile

Yes!!!!!!! I think that was it.

DuesToTheDirt · 05/03/2021 13:41

Les Visiteurs (French comedy). I don't generally like comedies, but this had me LOL.

110APiccadilly · 05/03/2021 13:44

German language film called Labyrinth of Lies. Not a "fun" watch (deals with Holocaust related themes) but possibly the film that's made the most impression on me ever.

CannotOperateOnThisFailure · 05/03/2021 13:44

Marvellous with Toby Jones is indeed brilliant, as is What we did on our Holiday.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople - and if you watch Thor Ragnarok afterwards it's even funnier. It's sad, it's beautiful scenery, it's hilarious and uplifting.

Vivacious Lady - ginger roger at her finest with James Stewart. Currently on iplayer. Also arsenic and old lace, bringing up baby. Classics.

I love the slipper and the rose. I have it on dvd. I also have a version of cinderella with Kathleen Turner as the stepmother its a ch4 film. One of my favourites.

Keeping mum, what we did on our holiday both brilliant. No one has mentioned Saving Grace yet I think which is another British underrated classic.

I like action films and one of my favourites is Big Game with Samuel L Jackson. Not many people have seen it. Its very cheesy but enjoyable.

There's also an adaptation of Arabian nights with rufus sewell and dougray scott in which I love.
