What’s your favourite thing about staying in a hotel?

Reminiscing on various lovely hotel stays and thinking about how I can’t wait to stay in one again. I think what I long for most is a big rainfall shower with lovely smelling mini toiletries, then wrapping up in a big white towel and sitting down on the chair in the room to peruse the dinner menu...

What’s your favourite part? Lovely big bed with white bedding? Ordering room service? Getting a bit dressed up to go down to the bar and have a drink?

Please do share your favourite things so I can read through them and get ridiculously excited over the thought of a possible stay in a lovely hotel later this year! Grin

I love it all but especially clean bed linen and towels. Breakfast without the making and clearing up. Imagine the time we would have if we didn't have to do all the household shit?

CMOTDibbler · 25/02/2021 22:18

A really good buffet breakfast, sitting reading my book over several cups of coffee, and then sitting in my room afterwards digesting. Going out for breakfast isn't the same at all

I particularly like city hotels with rooftop pools where I can swim at sunrise

@Crockof

I'm not fancy, white sheets, purple walls, TV and all you can eat breakfast....... oh Premier Inn I miss you so much.
Ya can’t beat an all you can eat breakfast at the Premier Inn, can you? Missing them so much also.
edwinbear · 25/02/2021 22:50

Hotel buffet breakfasts, with as many hash browns as I can manage without bursting.

Seeing what sort of biscuits they’ve left on the coffee tray and whether they’ve left sachets of hot chocolate.

Cocktails in the bar before and after dinner.

The hot tub in the spa if there is one.

Raiding the over priced mini bar.

Cannot wait to stay in a hotel again Grin

Breakfast - all prepared for you, lots of choice, no clearing away or washing up. What a treat!

Breakfast

Following just to find out where *@Cissyandflora* sleeps!
Me too

Not being surrounded by clutter, just an empty room with a suitcase and a few things hanging up.

PerfidiousAlbion · 25/02/2021 23:04

Oh I love a nice hotel. For me, it's:

 • a big room, all to myself. The grander the better
 • a spectacular view
 • high threadcount linens. The crispy type.
 • i find the gentle noise/hum very comforting
 • raiding the mini bar! Sweets and gin generally
 • room service
 • lying in bed, watching TV in a bathrobe
Bedforme · 25/02/2021 23:14

Swimming - I’m not a strong swimmer, lanes are too long and public sessions tough. Hotel pools are perfect for me and I can usually find a time when it’s not crowded (when most people are sightseeing)

lurker101 · 25/02/2021 23:20

Everything! Can’t wait to travel again, but the main ones:
Breakfast - multiple courses
Crisp, high thread count sheets, freshly made and ironed
Balcony for evening drinks while getting ready
Floor to ceiling windows with city view
Turndown service, I always love the surprise especially when they leave different things different nights
The tidiness - a recent stay had special monogrammed Velcro strips that they used to securely tidy my phone charger!
The lovely “hotel smell” when you enter and the fresh flowers
Rooftop pools
All the special extras that they provide that make the trip

This has got me so excited 😆

Mydogruns · 25/02/2021 23:28

The moment you arrive in the room - all the travelling is done - the clean, the quiet, it’s so calming sitting in your own private space after a long journey - with a glass of something helps too!

I'm in my 4th hotel in 10 days. Right now in this one there is...
No breakfast
No bar
No evening meals
Housekeeping only every 3 days
And I have one of my kids with me.

Bleh.

Still. The bed is lovely. The wifi works. It has a fridge. There's a Target within walking distance. Lots of restaurants round here deliver.

One of the hotels last week had a lounge with fireplace, and you could order food and eat it there. The breakfast was served in the courtyard, the bar was open some days, the pool was available, and it was in a gorgeous warm area - I could have stayed there forever.

Time40 · 26/02/2021 00:34

I never sleep well in a hotel room, unfortunately. It's always too hot

Me too. The only thing I'm bothered about is: does it have a pool? I don't enjoy anything else about hotels.

I like apartment hotels (ie, with a kitchen and a sitting-room) and there are so few of those in England. I wish we had more of them.

Riapia · 26/02/2021 01:40

Is it essential that the white sheets are crisp?
Must be awfully uncomfortable.

FaceyRomford · 26/02/2021 01:44

G&T before dinner. Wine with dinner. Port/Liqueurs after dinner and then you get a lift upstairs to bed. No "designated driver" nonsense!

Bloodybridget · 26/02/2021 01:48

It's lovely if there's a view from the bedroom window. The excitement of waking up looking forward to exploring a new place. Breakfast! A lounge with books, magazines and board games.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 26/02/2021 01:57

Don't hate me, but I'm going away to a lovely hotel next weekend. I am very much looking forward to sitting on the verandah drinking local (Margaret River) wine, while watching the parrots and kookaburras in the Karri trees, and probably a kangaroo or two on the lawn. We are staying in a suite with a huge spa bath, and I can't bloody wait!

Toilenstripes · 26/02/2021 01:59
@Toilenstripes PLEASE tell me what hotel(s) you normally stay at! A library tucked away?? I HAVE to know where I can get this!
It’s called the Luxembourg Parc, in Paris. Across the street from the Luxembourg Gardens.

heatherhoneys · 26/02/2021 02:10

The breakfast, kippers and poached egg or salted porridge.

Ruthietuthie · 26/02/2021 02:21

I love watching tv in bed. We don't have a tv at home and I've never lived in a house with one in the bathroom and I think I'd get pretty bored of tv if I had it all the time but I LOVE a night of lazily watching nothing in particular.

Hydrate · 26/02/2021 04:57

No housework!

Definitely prefer an apartment. Room service sounds nice but the food is usually pretty awful - I’d rather make my own coffee and head our to a cool cafe for breakfast.
HarlanWillYouStopNamingNuts · 26/02/2021 09:32

Arriving in a room with a great view where they have deliberately kept the curtains closed so that the person showing you to your room can open them with a flourish. Otherwise, everything else - the sheets, room service, the shower gel and shampoo ...
