When did you start finding greys?

I'm early 30s and starting to notice the odd grey strand, luckily mostly not obvious yet because it's underneath my still dark hair but I feel like I shouldn't be going grey yet! Tbh I feel like I've aged fifty years over the past one. I just want to go to the hairdresser's. :(

I'm 38 and been growing mine out for a year. I started growing grey at 12 and thought I'd use lockdown to see how I liked it grown out... check out some instagram inspiration, there are so many ladies of all ages growing out their grey. Annika Von Holdt has dream hair! She's got my goal hair!! Good Facebook groups too if you search for them

IrishMamaMia · 25/02/2021 19:39

@sandybeaches74 wow her hair is gorgeous! I'm mid thirties and in the process of discovering the odd silvery strand now. I use a semi permanent dye every so often but long-term goal is to have naturally grey hair, preferably long. Lots of women don't want to be slaves to dye in our generation which is great :)

Late 20s. Really dark hair so it’s really noticeable. My friends who have greys at this age are all dark haired too, wonder if those with lighter hair just haven’t spotted any yet!

sandybeaches74 · 25/02/2021 19:50

@IrishMamaMia I know, her hair (& the rest of her!!) is gorgeous! I understand, mine has big wide silver streaks and my hair is so I'm quite pleased with the look! It's amusing the number of women growing it out that are displeased with the amount of grey growing through and want more once they've started. I'm planning to have my nose pierced and keep wearing dangly boho earrings - turning into a hoop perhaps 🤣 I love the silver sister community, it's nice that women are starting to have a choice and be their authentic selves regardless of whether they dye or grow out natural.

sandybeaches74 · 25/02/2021 19:52

That was meant to say dark and hippy!

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 25/02/2021 19:52

28, due to stress. I'm 49 now and rocking the beginnings of a morticia addams stripe of white hair.

I remember when my mother started going grey, she used to pull them out, when she noticed mine she tried to do the same to me. I told her I'm perfectly happy with my hair as is. My hair is dark brown and long, so I cant hide the grey even if I wanted to.

When I last had my hair trimmed, I was contemplating dying it and the hairdresser told me off.Grin she said my hair was in really good condition and not to ruin it.

I'm just starting to notice some on my crown now and I'm 38 👵🏼

SilverGlassHare · 25/02/2021 19:54

I have 2 grey hairs on my crown of my head - first found them aged 33 or 34. Ten years later, they’re still the only grey hairs I have. Neither of my parents went grey when they were young, so I guess it’s inherited.

TheFallenMadonna · 25/02/2021 19:57
  1. Pretty much white by early 20s, but dyed. Have just embraced the white before turning 50.
ohhhhitsme · 25/02/2021 19:59

Early 30s now and there's tons of them when I can't get to the hairdressers

User1511 · 25/02/2021 19:59

None yet. My Nan says her dad didn’t go grey. I’m hoping I have the gene!

wishes1111 · 25/02/2021 19:59

27 😩

MustardMitt · 25/02/2021 20:00

None yet (38). My sister is younger and has some.

I’ve had the odd grey here and there for years but I don’t count them as they don’t come back once plucked. I have dark brown hair - sister is darker!

Daisychainsandglitter · 25/02/2021 20:01

Only just this year so 36.

Lockheart · 25/02/2021 20:01

Mid 20s or so. Early 30s now and I'd say there are a few more but not noticeable; I'm a strawberry-blonde so I tend not to see them unless I go looking.

ParisWasWonderful · 25/02/2021 20:04

The most annoying thing, is that people won’t even realise. They’ll just assume I dye it all the time.
No idea why I got lucky with my hair - my knees are about 80!

Phillipa12 · 25/02/2021 20:04

I'm 45 and 70% grey, I love it and have had loads of compliments on it. Think it helps that It does mix in beautifully with whats left of my blonde hair.

User594022452 · 25/02/2021 20:07

25, in the shorter hairs around my temples. I was shocked as I felt so young and I actually saw it in the car mirror while driving and had to pull over to double check.

Thankfully it never progressed from there and bizarrely improved a lot after pregnancy (33). Now 36 and the greys are only noticeable if I actively go looking for them and I have black hair.

TankGirl97 · 25/02/2021 20:12

I was 14, the hairdresser pointed them out to me.
40ish now and mostly grey.

Mother87 · 25/02/2021 20:13

In my 40's - am Eurasian with thick black/brown hair, which is good... but all grey bits show up very silvery very quicklyGrin

Late twenties, now in early 30s with quite a few grey/white hairs at the front of my hairline but none at the back.

I dyed my hair for years but decided about 18 months ago that I really resented spending three figure sums each year to have my hair dyed. And that why on earth was I willing to dump a load of chemicals on my head and sit with them there for 40 mins every 8 weeks. I wouldn't do that to any other part of my body.

Men are allowed to go grey naturally and it's seen to give them a distinguished look. Women are just seen as letting themselves go if they don't cover their grey hair when they're younger. So I'm rebelling!

It does feel hard at times, although I've made a conscious choice to let the grey hair come in naturally, so few women do the same I feel the odd one out. When actually plenty of women are at the same stage as me, it's just hidden. Maybe there will be a new trend and I'm ahead of the curve. Grin

I’m 33, I have quite a lot of grey on the sides and I now have some in my beard, mine has all started to appear in the last year.
