What tea would you recommend to someone who didn't like tea?

I've never enjoyed tea (or coffee) but would like a hot drink that isn't hot chocolate.

I wondered if there were types of tea that were less, um, tea like? Probably a stupid question tbh 😂 Preferably ones that don't need milk added, I'd like something a bit refreshing and not too bitter.

I make iced tea by adding 3 tea bags to a large jug of water for 10 minutes and then adding squash. It's extremely refreshing from the fridge

Laila747 · 24/02/2021 14:24

I like Lady Grey and peppermint tea.

Weepingwillow22 · 24/02/2021 14:48

I like green tea with lemon and lemon and ginger tea. I hate normal tea. Weak earl grey without milk is ok.

I don’t like tea, coffee or hot chocolate. I either drink hot Vimto, hot Ribena or hot water with a lemon slice and squeeze of honey.

MyGoMargot · 24/02/2021 14:52

Licorice tea

Or licorice with mint

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/02/2021 14:52

Fruit tea? Hot Ribena or Vimto?

My tea-hating DS1 drinks Bovril when he wants a hot drink that isn't milky like hot chocolate

hellojim · 24/02/2021 14:54

I like some of the Twinings flavoured green teas, favourites are ginger, mint and pomegranate.

Saviouronthreelegs · 24/02/2021 14:56

Tick Tock do a lovely caffeine free tea called "bounce" with lemongrass and ginger etc. It's very light and refreshing .

Thesagacontinues · 24/02/2021 14:56

I've started drinking green tea with lemon aswell. I feel good when I've finished a cup, its really light compared to tea and coffee.

SausageCrush · 24/02/2021 14:58

I hate 'normal' tea, but enjoy peppermint.
There are lots of flavoured teas out there, most of them seem to smell fabulous, but taste awful IMO.
Good luck with experimenting...

Puffalicious · 24/02/2021 14:58

Like PP I'm a huge fan of Liquorice tea, it's amazing. Others I like are all mints, fennel, Pukka Night-time and Detox.

Peckhampalace · 24/02/2021 15:03

Currently prefer either pukka tea 3 ginger, timings lemon and ginger or twinings mint and liquorice. The liquorice one tastes clean and sweet to me. None need milk and none contain actual tea. All available in any supermarket.
Yogi choco tea might suit you, again, no milk required. I used to get from Holland & Barrett.

TeenMinusTests · 24/02/2021 15:03

Weak Earl Grey with lemon, or Lady Grey.

BoomBoomsCousin · 24/02/2021 15:04

If you haven’t tried them in the past, green or white tea might work. Fruit and herb teas are vary varied, there may be something there you’d like, but look carefully because lots of them are just tea with the fruit or herb added and they probably won’t do it for you. I like mint or ginger (Both fairly widely available) in the mornings when I want something to really perk me and I recently found a turmeric tea (Maybe a bit more specialist) that I really enjoy in the afternoons.

The trouble is you have to buy them a box at a time to try them out and I have dozens of partly used boxes of teas where I’ve tried is and whatever fabulous sounding flavour combination I’ve bought just hasn’t been my, well, cup of tea! But it’s fun exploring Grin.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 24/02/2021 15:04

I like red bush, and am not keen on normal tea.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 24/02/2021 15:05

Fruit teas might work, particularly the red berry ones. I don't like tea at all but those are quite nice.
The liquorice ones taste nice but I find they've got an odd aftertaste.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 24/02/2021 15:07

I have Earl Grey, with milk, very weak, looks dreadful to anyone who likes tea, or Hot Ribena in the winter.

My drink of choice is hot black coffee, strong enough to stand a spoon in.....but somehow it's not decent to drink coffee in the afternoon. I don't know why.

percheron67 · 24/02/2021 15:08

I cannot bear even the smell of tea. However, I adore Lapsang and fruit teas. Ginger and Lime is very refreshing.

CMOTDibbler · 24/02/2021 15:10

I'm currently really enjoying the Twinings Strawberry and Peppermint with black pepper tea which is really refreshing. I also like a hot ginger drink

waltzingparrot · 24/02/2021 15:12

Darjeeling is very light and refreshing.
Earl Grey has a slight floral flavour.
I like a hot cordial - pear & ginger, elderflower etc

BertieBotts · 24/02/2021 15:12

Peppermint is the only one.

Wigmic · 24/02/2021 15:26

As a fellow hot chocolate lover Twinnings caramel tea is a must have. I find it best served black and it’s a lovely sweet drink without being too bitter. Green tea with lemon is also very nice and is quite mild in flavour.

Flamingolingo · 24/02/2021 15:28

I hate normal tea, so drink mostly green tea. It’s very delicate - it’s not meant to be brewed for long, should be very clean and mild tasting. If it’s bitter you’re doing it wrong!

TurnStone · 24/02/2021 15:33

Redbush (Rooibos) tea is lovely with a slice of lemon, caffeine free and tastes milder than regular tea.

Flibbertygibbertywoo · 24/02/2021 15:35

M&S Kenyan origins tea is amazing. It’s so much lighter and fresh tasting than other black teas
