What tea would you recommend to someone who didn't like tea?

I've never enjoyed tea (or coffee) but would like a hot drink that isn't hot chocolate.

I wondered if there were types of tea that were less, um, tea like? Probably a stupid question tbh 😂 Preferably ones that don't need milk added, I'd like something a bit refreshing and not too bitter.

Long Island Iced

Kote · 24/02/2021 15:37

I really hate regular tea. I don't mind some herbal teas though - pukka tea do some nice ones. Lemon, honey and ginger is my favourite Smile

MistakenAgain · 24/02/2021 15:37

Jasmine green tea.

One that I like that most people don't seem to have heard of is fennel tea. I get the Heath & Heather teabags but I think Pukka do one too, or you can use fennel seeds like you'd use loose-leaf tea.

BlankTimes · 24/02/2021 15:52

Chez Blank we currently have a large collection of these

Pukka range, uk.pukkaherbs.com/products/organic-teas

Fortnum and Mason www.fortnumandmason.com/tea/all-teas/botanical-infusions and www.fortnumandmason.com/tea/tea-collections/oddi-teas

This one has a very strong flavour if you let it brew awhile, www.fortnumandmason.com/rose-violet-infusion-tin-30g

UK Loose Leaf Tea Company is new to us, I've only tried their organic gunpowder tea but it's lovely. Brew with water at 85 degrees, very hot water makes green tea taste bitter. theuklooseleafteacompany.co.uk/

A friend has highly recommended these, The Dragonfly range dragonflytea.com/

Twinnings chai is a cinnamon and vanilla flavoured black tea which I love. I drink it with milk, my kids love the smell of it! There’s also several chai powders that you add to hot milk to make a chai latte which is like a sweet spicy cinammon-y flavour. Delicious and feels like a treat in manner of hot choc.

I like the Yorkshire biscuit tea, tastes just like cow biscuits.

ohsuzannah · 24/02/2021 15:55

Assam or Darjeeling

MedusasBadHairDay · 24/02/2021 16:55

This got so many more results than I expected! Glad to see I'm not the only one who isn't keen on tea, will have to try some of these suggestions. I'm leaning towards fruit teas at the moment, but we'll see once I've tried some

IME fruit 'teas' (infusions) are vastly improved by adding a drop of No Added Sugar lemon squash to the cup, it helps them to taste of what they smell like IYSWIM

Yorkshire Tea Biscuit Brew supposed to taste like biscuits. Not tried it yet but a pack is arriving in tomorrow’s shopping delivery. Looking forward to trying it!

Whittards do a variety of instant ice teas you can drink hot or cold (I find they need dissolving in a splash of hot first then topping up if drinking cold) I like lemon and lime or mango and passionfruit.

meditrina · 24/02/2021 19:40

Camomile tea.

Or plain hot water

Msfoxy17 · 24/02/2021 19:42

For some reason I really dont like fruit teas.. but I love ginger tea. The Twinings spiced ginger is nice but the best one I've had is the Pukka 3 gingers. Dont get so often as it's very pricey.
Pukka also doa nice range of mixed teas with fennel, camomile and similar - the Sleepytime one is nice.
Also discovered Lady Grey but to my mind that is quite tea- like!
Lapsang (loose not bags) on a cold day after a walk is great.. but it's a very smoky taste and I dont know many who like it.

Holothane · 24/02/2021 19:48

Herbal teas for me now after 7 at night.

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 24/02/2021 19:53

Camomile

Terrylovesyogurt · 24/02/2021 20:00

I cannot stand the smell/taste of any tea, including camomile or fruity ones 🤢. But I will drink hot water with honey, cinnamon and a squeeze of lemon for a pick me up, despite not liking honey on its own.

Failing that, I'd go with PP and have a long island iced Grin

BikeRunSki · 24/02/2021 20:00

I drank milky Heath&Heather Apple and Cinammkb tea asa teenager. Earl Grey was my gateway “real” tea.

The Yorkshire Tea Biscuit Blend is very strong and malty. Maybe not the best if you are not a big fan of strong tea.

IamEarthymama · 24/02/2021 20:41

You can get packs of different fruit teas, so you can find out which ones you like.

When I had Covid19 last year I lost taste and smell and could not abear coffee or tea.

My lovely wife searched online and found some lovely flowery fruit teas for me on eBay.

It was one of the pleasures of the early summer to sit out in that glorious sunshine, resting and healing, with a pretty teapot and china cup and saucer.

These two were particularly delicious and I have to admit that we giggled over the flowers in the first! 😉☺️

I hate black tea but love herbal and fruit teas. Bird and Blends Dozy Girl is my favourite

Leah2005 · 24/02/2021 20:49

I feel like fruit teas smell more inviting than they taste. Chamomile is my go to when I don't want caffeine.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 24/02/2021 20:51

Peppermint and licorice or licorice and cinnamon are my favourites. I'm not a big 'normal' tea drinker.

Thanks for this, OP! Some great suggestions.

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 24/02/2021 22:48

I love lemon balm or limeflower. Not technically tea, but infusions.

I use a metal infuser in my mug.

Loose herbs are much better than teabags. You can control the amount you put in.

I also like pukka ginger tea.

You may like green tea. It’s generally very mild flavoured, though there are loads of different types.
