Your favourite TV series that no one else you know has seen

Currently unable to sleep so thought I would ask others!

I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s regularly recommended but I have a few TV shows I love that rarely ever come up in discussions. I figured I would share mine and maybe others could share theirs and we can all find something new to us!

The main ones that come to mind for me are:
Silicon Valley
Barry
Carnivale
Party Dowb

Almost all HBO so harder to get hold of but all absolutely brilliant and worth seeking out.

Also 30 Rock and The Shield - these come up more often but still not widely seen in the UK

What are yours?

So many of these I love! This thread has reminded me of so many I'd forgotten.

Ghosts-I now have family watching it as it's brilliant.

Superstore-laugh myself silly at it.

Upload-only one series but I'm desperate for the next one.

Being Human-old one but the first few series are brilliant.

Deadwood-don't know if you can watch it anywhere now but love it. Same with Banshee.

@Celticdawn5

On Netflix am currently watching Community
Community is one of my favourite programmes too - the more you watch it the better it gets.

Roger and Val have just got in- bbc, dawn French and Alfred Molina. Brilliantly funny and beautiful as in places.

Grandma's house - Simon Amstal (spelling) sooo funny.

Might have to go dig out my DVDs of both of these for some weekend bingeing.

I love community! Especially Abed.

OP I love Party Down!

I watched it when I lived in the US and it makes me really sad it’s not on Netflix here as I often think I’d love a rewatch.

jellybe · 25/02/2021 08:16

@Januaryblue2020

'Mum' with Lesley Manville is amazing (iplayer) The Good Fight (good wife spin off)
Love both of these. They are both brilliant in completely different ways.
Sparklfairy · 25/02/2021 08:19

Devious maids. Its trashy, outrageous, very desperate housewives-esque (produced by eva Longoria) but utterly addicted. I was so gutted when it was cancelled on a big cliffhanger.

I've just discovered it's on the 'grown up' section on disney+ and I'm sorely tempted to get it...

I think you might be the first person I’ve spoken to who’s actually seen it! It’s so brilliant, such a shame it couldn’t continue as everyone had other jobs.

If you haven’t seen Silicon Valley you should watch that, I think you’d like it.

DH and I often do impressions of Abed’s impression of Nicolas Cage 😂

:o Love it sinkgirl
My favourite bit of his is probably the Spanish rap from episode 2, but I also find myself saying “cool. Cool cool cool.” to myself instead of just the once 😂

Orpheline · 25/02/2021 08:24

Can't wait!

(Favourite so far anyway - I haven’t actually binged it all yet, I’m spreading it out between other series 😄)

Oh if you haven’t seen it all, you have lots of brilliant stuff to come.

My favourite episode is probably the Christmas Glee-bashing episode, but the whole of the last series especially is amazing.

Cool cool cool is a daily catchphrase here too 😬

Haven’t RTFT but loved Parks and Recreation, and don’t think it ever got enough credit for not only being really funny and sweet, but also having a really well written, positive female role at its centre.

Parks & Rec is brilliant - it’s a bit more lightweight than most of the other comedies I watch but it’s so well written. And Ron and Tammy are such a brilliant creation (how much fun it must be to play those roles when you’re married 😂)

I definitely think this and 30 Rock did a lot for women in TV comedy - there aren’t many where the main character is female and it’s about their work rather than home life.

From the early to mid 80s a program called Gems, set in a fashion design studio in Covent Garden. Cue models swanning around in Pineapple dance gear and drinking cappuccinos (had no idea what they were). I loved it so much, but no one else ever watched it, apparently.

SingToTheSky · 25/02/2021 08:46

I watched s1 of parks and rec the other week - loved it. Lesley is such a lovably annoying character 😂 in a way she made me think of a female Phil Dunphy with the way she looked at camera etc

Pulling - Sharon Horgan's first show, it's on iPlayer.

Another fan of Grandma's House, so brilliant and underrated, no one I know as seen this.

Scandal was the most exciting TV ever but people look blankly at me when I tell them about it!

Clocking On (or Off can't remember) different stories about people working in the same factory, brilliant.

Mike and Molly is the funniest US sit com.

Wayward Pines - Matt Dillon in a sci-fi/horror US drama, so original and gripping. S2 they replaced Matt Dillon and it lost its way. My fave film is Stir of Echoes and no one's ever heard of that either.

dayswithaY · 25/02/2021 09:03

Peace and dove I remember Gems, wasn't it the fabulous Stephanie Beecham? I was also a fan of Albion Market which was around the same time and CATS Eyes with Leslie Ash and Jill Gascoigne, maybe a spin off of The Gentle Touch.

I loved Linda Green with Liza Tarbuck but you can't watch it anywhere.

Yes to Pulling, another one of my favourite shows of all time.

Sleeper cell. Very much a hidden gem

Izzy24 · 25/02/2021 09:43

I thought Catastrophe and Rev and Mum would have been well known but seems not! All brilliant although the last episode of Rev was v sad . Also the first series of Dead to me.

JosephineBaker · 25/02/2021 09:44

I feel out of whack because I’ve seen so many of the things mentioned and didn’t think they were obscure at all! I move in the wrong circles Hmm

I mean, you couldn’t move for Good Omens coverage when it was first on the BBC, for example, and Casanova (very young David Tennant) was a massive hit at the time. Christ I’m old.

Northern Exposure was a gem. Due South and the deaf wolf Deifenbaker was sweet.
NYPD Blue was a game changer, as was Homicide: Life on the Streets, and then The Wire.
Loved Ultraviolet, Being Human, Grimm, iZombie etc,
Silicon Valley was so much fun. Also Brooklyn 99, Studio 60, Community, 30 Rock - lots of ace female characters.

Ones I haven’t seen mentioned are Fargo (the series), Haven and Once (upon a time).

We quote Friday Night Lights all the time - “I guarantee it” - and I have 3 Nashville albums. Scarlet and Gunner breaking up broke my heart.
