I think it's no coincidence that English schools have gone back 2-3 weeks before Easter. As it is, and taking should haves and what ifs out of the equation, I'm happy with 3 weeks as it's enough time to get that sense of routine back and feel like Easter is a holiday rather than continued lockdown, and that month is a long time for children.
DS will be 8 over the Easter holiday. He was still 6 when this shit srarted, and had a hard-lockdown birthday over last Easter (plus it was grotty weather that day). While it's all far from business as usual, that fact that his birthday now falls as an Easter holiday rather than continued lockdown is is a massive deal to a 7-8 yo who's been struggling.
At least I'm not the only parent on the playground who thinks that starting day 1 with a themed dress-up day was a bit discombobulating. Mon-dress up, Tues- uniform, Weds-PE kit... they don't know if they're coming or going.
DS2 did fine yesterday after Tuesday morning's tears and resistance. He did have a strop on this morning, but that faded off before school. Now we have that break from each other again, I immediately have more mental energy to stand my ground too.
