Mine's late this month SirSamuel Grin as in I'm on day 25! Every 6 months or so I have a 30+ day cycle just to keep me on my toes. First time it happened I thought ooh they're going to space out more now. I was wrong...

Blobby10 · 10/03/2021 08:37

I'm still hoping that every month will bet the last! I had a coil fitted in summer 2017 and they got MUCH lighter and regular and are now 28 days apart and getting lighter every month. My mums stopped when she was 52 and I'm 52 in May so hoping that I follow her lead!

BogRollBOGOF · 10/03/2021 09:34

I'm not looking forwards to menopausal changes. After children my periods became reasonably predictable and fairly civilised. My main gripe these days is moods and energy rather than randomly being floored by agony. Literally floored, under the desk at school, the bathroom floor at home, the revolting uncleaned stockroom floor at work.

I'm also not looking forwards to my longrun. Cold. Soggy. 8 miles. Considering route options...

LadyCounterblast · 10/03/2021 10:57

The vaccine does appear to work for the Brazil variant!

Shocker Grin

Twas ever thus @MrsDeaconClaybourne

First it's awful and scary
Then it might be resistant
Then whoops! it isn't after all

I think we've done the variant hokey-cokey at least four times now!

They always bury the 'oh the vaccines work after all' news too, don't they? I guess it isn't as clickable as frightening stuff.

ISaySteadyOn · 10/03/2021 11:14

I don't know how I feel about the vaccines tbh. I am not sure whether I want it or not.

I think I feel there's an element of coercion that I am not comfortable with. And I don't think there's any give and take. Mine and my children's mental health has been massively hurt to the point that I occasionally have suicidal ideation. I also don't think we'll be let go even if everyone is jabbed so I have no incentive plus apparently side effects are worse if you've had the virus. Which I have.

If I could be 100 percent sure that my children's lives could go back to normal if I had it, then I would. But right now, I do not know.

@ISaySteadyOn I’m feeling very similar myself with regards to the vaccine. I don’t like the thinly veiled threat of not being able to participate in life without it, nor do I trust the Government to ease restrictions when they say they will even if I do have it.

I’m in my early 50s so will probably be called soon but I really don’t know what to do. I’m by no means anti-vaccine, I just don’t see the point in this one.

Blobby10 · 10/03/2021 12:02

ISaySteadyOn theartmysmart I'm on the fence too. My risk from covid is very low - I don't go and have no desire to travel abroad, I don't do caring duties or live with anyone who does caring duties, I'm fit, healthy, not overweight, no underlying medical conditions, I avoid crowded places, don't attend large gatherings such as festivals, concerts etc. don't use public transport except very occasionally a train down to London.

My risk of contracting and being ill with Covid is lower than my chance of being involved in an RTA but my risk of side effects from a vaccine where the manufacturers cannot be held to task cannot be determined. I choose not to travel to places where i require a vaccine ie Yellow Fever, Malaria etc. I am really worried that due to the panic and terror about Covid that I will not be given this option if I want to leave my house. This scares me far more than contracting the virus and being ill.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 10/03/2021 12:02

Have fun on your day out SirSamuelVimes. Not the best weather for it down in London, it's rainy and cold here today!!

Covid is a test bed for terrible customer services

I've had a nightmare trying to sort a work thing this morning. My work computer can't cope with their updated website - it's less than 18 months old!

My doctor once said she thought I should get my anxiety and depression declared as a disability, I didn't want my work to know so I said no way. I am beginning to think it might be an idea though. I also think work have probably guessed and probably more than 50% of staff are on meds anyway.

But then I'm handing over more power to the doctor aren't I. Darn it.

Worldgonecrazy · 10/03/2021 14:08

Getting really pissed off with the narrative that people who choose not to wear a mask are socially irresponsible and selfish.

Rather than the truth which is that masks make f-all difference and in the absence of evidence to the contrary, I believe they do more harm than good. Not just the physical issues, but the social and mental issues. All of us have been conditioned through our lives to associate masks with fear - until last year the only people who wore masks in non medical settings were criminals. They provoke a fear response.

So no, those who choose not to wear masks are not selfish or socially irresponsible. Some of us actually care enough about society to think about what the effects of masks mean to society as a whole. If PPE can’t prevent infection within clinical settings, a face rag is going to make bugger all difference in Asda.

It’s the same message as being used by those who don’t want to have enforced vaccines. Why would anyone be so selfish so of course we should bring in enforcement of a vaccine for a not very deadly virus.

Totally fucked off with it all today and the smug sanctimonious eejits.

I also know that humanity is due a serious virus within the next decade and our response to COVID has me very worried about how society would survive that. I guess the sanctimonious arseholes with their false sense of security will be first to drop dead.

Sorry. Just needed a rant.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/03/2021 14:24

@AcornAutumn
Yes, I think mental health problems are more common than people let on.

It's a difficult one - depends on your relationship with your colleagues, & how your employers view mental health, as to how much people feel able to disclose.

I was happy for my current colleagues to know when I was ill, & they were supportive. But I chose not to join workplace mental health support groups, or to share my story with a wider group. For me, it was about getting help to do my job, but not wanting to be defined entirely by my mental health.

@Worldgonecrazy
and when this virus does come along, even if it's only a couple of years away, they will start whinging for severe restrictions at the first whiff of it. Then when they don't work (because viruses will virus) there will be much wringing of hands whilst people complain that we did it properly last time and it worked and it is because people are being so selfish this time that it is not working.

Yes but when the actual epidemic arrives people will be in hiding

And taxpayer money will all have gone on this shit show.

ISaySteadyOn · 10/03/2021 14:43

Rants always justified, @Worldgonecrazy.

The thing that often gets to me is that the people who go on about masks are the same people who say how terrible plastic pollution and overpopulation are Confused. Incidentally, there is a reef in the Philippines being choked by the single use disposable blue masks.

Hopelessly weighed down by our laws of steel..

Well it's a world gone crazy
Humans in chains...

Well I feel
Deep in our hearts there are wounds time can't heal

And I see..
All people all over are trying to breathe

Okay, back to work now.

Worldgonecrazy · 10/03/2021 15:48

😎that’s where I got the name from. I was going to change but it seemed very apt when COVID craziness hit us.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/03/2021 16:52

I've not been to many concerts but have been to Tears for Fears. Woman in Chains was fabulous live, it was one of their songs I'd been less familar with prior to that.

I had to edit my running route and went along a country road that I rarely run along as it tends to be too busy and quite hemmed in, but at least traffic is lighter at present... the number of grubby disposable facerags festooning the hedgerow was really depressing. There's nowhere near there, so goodness knows how they've ended up congregating there.
Some lying around clearly fall out of pockets and look neatly folded and unworn. I've seen a fair few fabric ones around too so doubt they were intentionally littering.

I'm fine with going for vaccination when my time comes. I have no specific concerns. Other routine vaccinations like my DCs having the flu spray are more for the greater good element than their direct benefit, and I'm now sufficiently convinced about the benefits. As anything, nothing is totally risk free.

I'm brewing towards name change time, mine's so March 2020 Grin Mad World would fit the TFF theme Wink

I'm not sufficiently inspired yet though. I'm quite attached to being bogroll Grin

ISaySteadyOn · 10/03/2021 18:12

I don't like change much. I think I have only ever had three MN names.

I want to be absolutely clear that my worries about the jab in no way mean that I want to prevent anyone from having it. That is entirely up to each person to decide by themselves.

And does anyone but me watch Umbrella Academy?

ISaySteadyOn · 10/03/2021 18:52

Who's your favourite? I can't quite decide. I like them all as they are all equally weird.

Actually, having said that, I like watching Five's story arcs best.
