@Curlygirl06. I've done something similar (without the potatoes) - I went to TK Maxx to get a nightie and some gym leggings, and came out with neither, but I did have a fake fur coat!
Everyone needs a fake fur coat!

Taswama · 01/03/2021 10:55

I finally watched the Blitz Spirit programme yesterday and really enjoyed it. I thought the comment about the suffering of the East End being ignored was similar to the situation of mums trying to work and homeschool being ignored / minimised currently.
I have a variety of friends and we have various things in common (shared hobby, kids with SN, shared heritage) but actually none who recommend me intelligent TV to watch (or books to read). So thanks.

Happy first day of Spring all! My husband says that Spring doesn't start until 20 March but I say that is nonsense. It is clearly Spring during March, April and May.

TrustTheGeneGenie · 01/03/2021 12:21

definitely felt like spring yesterday, glorious!

Not so much today, it's so foggy you cant see your hand in front of your face!

Sorry, it's not obvious from the link but "school staff not at more risk than others working outside the home"
Pleasenomoreglitter · 01/03/2021 16:36

I've had my first day having the wear a mask all day in school as visors are no longer allowed. Teachers can choose not to if they stay 2 metres away, but I'm a ta so am never that far from the children. Frankly I'd be a pretty useless 1:1 if I had to stay 2 metres away! Anyway, it was really grim. Mask got so soggy and yucky pretty quickly. Changed it at lunch. Felt really grimy on my face by the time I got home. Really feel for the secondary kids that'll be stuck doing this too. Can't imagine any of their masks will be remotely hygienic after a few hours!

Anyone watching the queen's zoom calls, the last few she's been smiling and laughing guess she's gagging to interact with people like the rest of us 😂

Curlygirl06 · 01/03/2021 22:21

Hmm, I've had the text to book for a covid jab. I'm hoping to have it ( allergy issues) but I'm still of the mind that it's being made compulsory by the back door, i.e. no jab, no travel etc. It's not that I travel a lot but where next will it be that you can't come in if you're not vaccinated?
I'll report back.

CruCru · 01/03/2021 23:58

There’s a really good thread over on the Coronavirus board called Stay at home...... Well worth a read.
Guardian article on women and homeschooling

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/feb/28/mums-women-coronavirus-covid-home-schooling-inequality?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
I saw that article on their Facebook page yesterday @Taswama and was gutted to see the first comment "why have kids then if you can't cope with them"

chocolatesweets · 02/03/2021 08:01

"What I keep hearing is a sense of guilt, a sense of anger, a sense of deep unfairness, and a sense that they are not being heard."

This hit the nail on the head for me with the article. I do think it's more of a caring issue though. As a society we just don't care anymore. There isn't any room for anything other than head to the grindstone. I think that's where the problem lies with this article's issues.

Kids are back in playgroup. I'm so happy for them and for me - I don't have to organise and entertain them for the whole day and I can get things done/have a brew in peace for 5 minutes.

I feel though like I don't belong anywhere. Not to any group. Does anyone else feel like this? I really would like to work more hours somewhere where I can have a conversation with an adult.

I miss holidays too and days out.

Life is a risk. Sorry to sound glum but I don't think this lockdown /corona issue is going away anytime soon. We're going to have to say we're not happy with it.

2020BogOff · 02/03/2021 08:08

I am actually feeling more positive. The vaccination program is really bloody great and overall moving at a massive rate. I am in group 10 and expecting to get an invite end of the month or beginning of next and I would have never thought that would happen a few months back. I think the variants will be used to try and keep us all locked away for a bit longer so we don't all run out and 'flock' Grin to somewhere nice.

But I think once we have lifted restrictions there really isn't any justification with vaccines to lockdown again even in winter. And the tide is definitely on the way out as noted by the threads on the other place. Far many more people openly calling out the covid police and doomers.

TrustTheGeneGenie · 02/03/2021 08:14

It's all this "new variant" shit, every time there's positive news its oh no new scary mutant variant every single time!

SirSamuelVimes · 02/03/2021 08:37

I actually think they're overplaying their hand with the new variant shite. The first couple of times I had a really negative reaction (oh shit, what does this mean for vaccines, is it going to put back the roadmap dates, fuck fuck fuck) but now it's just background noise to me. Good news on vaccination numbers & effectiveness + good weather = scary news story on a new (forrin! for extra scares) variant. It now just seems like a transparently obvious control mechanism that is there to stop people getting ahead of themselves.

chocolatesweets · 02/03/2021 08:40

@SirSamuelVimes that's how I feel about it too. Like a major party pooper.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 02/03/2021 08:45

Hello everyone. Just catching up on the thread. It's been a dreadful few days; a dear friend of mine is suicidal and I am trying to get her admitted to hospital. Her mental health issues pre-date Covid, but it is fair to say the current circs have made things much harder for her. I have made numerous calls to the Crisis team managing her care. I think I am going to just take her to A & E and hope they admit her.

Sorry to just dump all that. Am sat on a bench drinking coffee calming myself down for a day of work. Loving reading all the recent posts - this thread really is a godsend.

chocolatesweets · 02/03/2021 08:52

@TooManyPlatesInMotion sorry to hear. I don't mind if you dump - I feel I do this all the time on here 🙈

Worldgonecrazy · 02/03/2021 09:33

@TooManyPlatesInMotion

So sorry to hear that and hope your friend gets the care and support they need.

Be gentle with yourself and remember to put on your own oxygen mask first. (Big hug)

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 02/03/2021 09:39

Thank you. She's in a bit of a tricky situation as her psychiatrist thinks it is unlikely that the NHS will fund the therapy she really needs (trauma therapy).

Anyway, I am highly amused by the just stay at home thread over there. Grin

ISaySteadyOn · 02/03/2021 10:02

@TooManyPlatesInMotion, she's lucky to have s friend like you. Take care of yourself too Flowers.
