Every time there is nothing on tv, DH finds The Next Generation on Scfi.

SirSamuelVimes · 28/02/2021 20:05

Life forms, oh little life forms...Grin Also live TNG.

SirSamuelVimes · 28/02/2021 20:06

Love, not live. Not that big a nerd!

Worldgonecrazy · 28/02/2021 20:13

Ryker: I dream of a galaxy where your eyes are the stars, and the universe worships the night." .

One of my favourite quotes.

SirSamuelVimes · 28/02/2021 20:17

Ooh Commander Riker. Swoon. I'll just leave this here...

flower11 · 28/02/2021 20:25

We flocked to our local NT place today. So nice to walk somewhere different, beautiful flowers and people enjoying the sunshine. They are really limiting numbers so not at all busy.

justasking111 · 28/02/2021 20:37

Have seen ryker so many times before but never noticed him straddling a chair 😃

NeedWineNow · 28/02/2021 20:39

Waved back at @TheOrchidKiller I haven't been there in ages. We live about 25 mins away and we popped down because I wanted to go to Iceland and Superdrug. It was so nice to see people just out wandering, getting shopping and enjoying the sunshine. DH said it was so nice to do something normal!

ISaySteadyOn · 28/02/2021 20:51

I'd like to walk somewhere different, but I can't face public transport. That used to be my main way to get around because my dyspraxia means I can't drive. Now I can only go places within walking distance and not even that far because I get really worried about loo availability. The 'urinary leash' is a reality for me.

In Star Trek Next Gen trivia, did you all know that Dr Crusher was missing for one series because she was busy doing the choreography for Labyrinth?

ISay why can't you face public transport?

I used to have a passionate hatred of it due to crowds but it has been so much better since Covid. If the scared people stay scared it might stay that way for a while! 😂

AcornAutumn · 28/02/2021 20:55

I also have loo issues, so annoying.

SirSamuelVimes · 28/02/2021 20:56

In Star Trek Next Gen trivia, did you all know that Dr Crusher was missing for one series because she was busy doing the choreography for Labyrinth? Hence the dancing doctor!

In more TNG trivia, did you know that Riker's chair straddling manoeuvre was because Jonathan Frakes has back problems and found it less painful / awkward to do that than to sit normally?

Mask requirement. I have a lanyard but I am really anxious about the driver and other passengers plus again loo issues. There are no guarantees that any loos but my own will be available. So I feel stuck.

@NeedWineNow
Haven't been there in ages, either.
I'm not even sure where that Iceland is anymore!

AcornAutumn · 28/02/2021 21:05

ISay oh, right.

I have to use the Tube at least once a week. In the beginning I wore my lanyard, then got comments so wore a mask but made a show of removing it and pulling my inhaler out.

Now I get away with not wearing it for at least half the journey because no one seems to care, or people drink coffee etc.

I do have an exemption card printed by TFL as well.

I probably will avoid public transport for leisure until masks are gone so I see your point. I was just going to say, if you are worried about crowds there's no need to as buses etc have bits sectioned off.

God, I miss the days of "stay alert" before masks came in.

I have been reading the poetry of G K Chesterton as I attempt to get DD to sleep (not reading it to her, just to myself while I feed/cuddle her to get her to a point where she's asleep enough to be put in her Moses basket). Half his poems are about how good pubs are - I'd love to see the (definitely sarcastic) poem he'd have written about lockdown.

Not familiar with him at all

But seemed like rhyme time, haven't done that for a while

So with apologies to GK Chesteron, A Wine/Whine

The wine we drink in tiny flats
They sell not far from here
I bought it cheaply from the chap
Who runs the offie; oh I say
Those who run the offie, they
Have made a fortune in lockdown.

The wine they praise in restaurants
Was bought in cos they say
They'll open bars and pubs again
But what of test and tracing, eh
Those that run the restaurant trade
Have suffered in lockdown.

The wine we want in normal life
Is nothing special really
We don't care if it's red or white
Just want to share it freely.
Like days there was no track or trace
The days I saw my friends.

Taswama · 28/02/2021 22:16

Lovely poem @AcornAutumn

MercyBooth · 28/02/2021 23:19

Oh God i sympathize. I have an overactive bladder. Cant go very far because of it.

DWPmisery1972 · 01/03/2021 00:13

Good night lovely ADs, I’m so glad you’ve been enjoying the sunshine! The urinary leash is a real problem at the moment with public toilets being closed - I expect also difficult for families with babies that need nappy changing facilities. Not good at all.

ISaySteadyOn · 01/03/2021 08:31

Good morning everyone. First day of March and coming up on a year of lockdown.

But I am hopeful because the seasons cannot be locked away or shut. Spring is coming.

And also, we have each other. Whatever else happens, I am so glad to know you all. When I posted last night, I had to ask DH what Data's rank was and he commented that he's never seen me let myself be quite as comfortable with my being, as I said last night, a great big nerd with anyone besides him (reader, that's one of the many reasons I married him) as you all. And that's because I know that even if you have no idea what I am talking about, you won't mock me for it or call me names. Thank you for that.

As I've got older I've been surprised to find out how many people are secretly great big nerds about something. I reckon all the best people are!

DWPmisery1972 · 01/03/2021 09:04

@ISaySteadyOn fwiw all of us here think you’re funny, kind, genuine and you ‘keep it real’ (I’m so sorry I can’t I think of anther way to put it!). You are to the point, smart and we care very much about how You are feeling. It’s why this thread exists. We all support each other. Flowers

Also I agree re spring- the seaside towns in particular NEED this summer to ‘open’ in order to survive- they can’t go another year without ‘business’. My oh lives in a seaside town and it’s like a ghost town when normally even by now, the hotels would be packed to the rafters and the beach and shops would be rammed. Open. It. Up. Fucking bozzy shlongson 🙄

ISaySteadyOn · 01/03/2021 09:04

Oh, I have many somethings 😺
