@AcornAutumn I have had a call this afternoon from the surgery and I have an appointment booked with the specialist physio who can refer me for an MRI and I will be getting bloods done ASAP. The surgery haven’t received the details of what bloods are needed so want to get that information before booking the appointment. I think my E Consult must have been re-triaged as they had cancelled tomorrow’s telephone appointment and brought it forward.

The hospital wanted me to have an abdominal ultrasound as well, but apparently the surgery are getting those turned down and are only allowed to request MRI’s through the physio.

Anyway I have made some progress and they think my circulation is fine which was a relief.

DWPmisery1972 · 25/02/2021 14:33

Hello lovely ADs. I’m still in shock and can’t quite believe what has happened to me today.

A friend found out about my sick pay situation and today an envelope came through my letter box with a considerable amount of cash in it and the most beautiful and kind letter. It’s been two hours and I’m still crying. I don’t deserve this. I rang him and was in hysterics and he told me ‘friends are like garden fences, sometimes you just need one to lean on’ and I just... I don’t really know what to say. I never asked anyone for any money or anything (the MN ‘grabby’ trope- I just soldier on and hope for the best mostly 😂) but I just can’t believe it. I just don’t even know how to thank him. He is so kind. I had forgotten what it was like to feel emotions other than isolation and misery for a bit there.

I hope everyone is doing ok; how is our mascot? Any pic updates?

DWPmisery1972 · 25/02/2021 14:35

@Evenstar I hope your tests go ok and you get them in a timely fashion- I am awaiting another scan app as my surgeon thinks I’ve got a slipped disc from when I fell! Yay!

Evenstar · 25/02/2021 14:38

@DWPmisery1972 really sorry to hear that, I had a partially prolapsed disc many years ago and it was very painful. Thank goodness for lovely friend

DWPmisery1972 · 25/02/2021 14:39

@BogRollBOGOF sorry about child issues- I think both of mine are actually bored of looking at my face at this point... maybe I should get one of those celebrity masks so I look like a different person or something. Or put some make up on so I don’t look like I zombie? I don’t know 🤔

DWPmisery1972 · 25/02/2021 14:40

@Evenstar I’m really sorry I’m catching up on the thread- what happened to you? Whatever it is I hope you’re ok, sending good vibes to you. Getting tests/routine stuff is a shambles at the moment, I feel your pain. Flowers

It's interesting that so many teachers have such a lot of time to chat online isn't it. Thought it was all so busy and stressful etc

Oh that's good.

SirSamuelVimes · 25/02/2021 16:06

@Evenstar so glad that you were seen and it went well. Sounds like your gp have been really shit though.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 25/02/2021 16:25

SirSamuelVimes I understand the pain regarding school uniforms. My children's school sent out an email yesterday saying they are aware children may have grown out of their uniforms and need new ones but people's finances may not stretch to this at the moment. What they have done is advised us to send our kids in uniform or as close to it as possible and they won't mind too much about infractions of the rules but they will be stricter after Easter. I think that's quite fair and I wish more schools would do that. Glad you had a nice friend to help you out DWPMisery1972 and I am glad you got seen yesterday Evenstar, hope all the tests they have ordered give you the results you need.

Evenstar · 25/02/2021 16:57

@DWPmisery1972, stairs suddenly became a problem to the point I was struggling to make it to the top.

Further update I have just had another call from the surgery, and they have booked me in for their late night clinic tonight so I will be getting bloods done today. They are trying to redeem themselves at least.

Evenstar · 25/02/2021 16:57

Thank you all for the support 💐

Hello all - was trying to give up MN for lent but have dropped in here for a dose of sanity - I did venture "over there". Good grief.

In other news, I don't really want to have the vaccine. I'm 47, in good health and fit (ish), normal BMI etc etc. I had a text today from the surgery asking me to book in for my Covid vaccinations. I'm assuming it's because they have on record that I had hyperthyroid in the past? No idea why it would be otherwise. I'm sorry, I know this is really selfish but I don't want to have it done until it's at least finished Phase 3 testing, looking at medium-long term safety, which as I understand it is not due to finish until last 2022.

I have heard a lot of talk about "vaccine passports" - is this actually a thing? Surely it must be voluntary to take what is, if we look at it at its very base, a trial vaccine.

CaptainWentworth · 25/02/2021 17:25

Hi all- bit of lurker on these threads but enjoy reading the craic!

Just wanted to post to those who are struggling with GP appointments- my lovely DH is a GP and is completely exhausted and overworked at the moment, even more so than usual. They are a doctor down one day a week at the moment because they have to contribute someone to the central vaccine clinics, and as a result the on call rota is such that he is on call for part of every day, which means he has to do all the telephone consultations in addition to doing a full morning or afternoon of appointments. He usually sees/ calls about 40 people a day even without an on call and he is really struggling to keep on top of everything.

Plus the COVID safety measures mean he has to wipe down surfaces in his room after every patient he sees, wear a new plastic pinny (which he hates!) and gloves every time and wear a mask every time he leaves his room or a colleague or patient comes in to speak to him. So that all takes up extra time.

And on top of all that he is managing patients with complex conditions in the community, when they should be being seen by hospital doctors, because the hospital service has obviously reduced due to the pandemic- he has to have half an hour argument with a consultant or whoever every time he tries to refer someone at the moment, which takes up a lot of time considering he’s only allocated 10 minutes for each patient contact. Plus all the multiple phone calls when he tries to call a patient back because they don’t/ can’t answer the phone the first time.

I do understand what it’s like trying to get appointments- I’ve been there too - but GPS do mostly work very hard, want the best for their patients and are as frustrated as everyone else by the current conditions.

I understand

I wish I had said no, on reflection

My elderly mother would have been very unhappy

It's difficult because I have various things that make me vulnerable, probably the main thing is lung scarring from a previous bout of pneumonia.

I am unclear about the long term safety but they tweak the flu vaccine yearly and I have that.

There's a complex web of having nearly killed myself last year, then realised no one gave a damn about lockdown or becoming china, then realising that I was only hurting myself, then feeling I didn't want to attract the attention of the GP by refusing because I rely on them for other prescriptions....

I can't claim to be drug free 😂 and on that basis it made more sense to take it.

MrsEWeatherwax · 25/02/2021 17:58

My DD is having her vaccine next week as is in group 6, I’m so pleased especially as she will be going back to college. She is refusing to do test at home.
I am also letting my other DD decide if she wants to test.
Flowers to everyone struggling with anything.

AcornAutumn · 25/02/2021 17:59
  • that should say, realising I was only hurting myself in my upset at the state of lockdown etc

Sounds like they've had a well earned kick up the ass from above. Shame when that's what it takes.

justasking111 · 25/02/2021 18:55

My friend a GP Welsh health board said a few years ago that referral was to be avoided, the practice was slapped down financially if they did. All to keep waiting lists for surgery down in orthopaedic cases. You can wait a couple of years here for hips, knees if you do manage to get on the list

Mea culpa! You are correct. Refraining from hugging is government guidance, not law. And on a thread where I have moaned about lack of reading comprehension too. I am mortified Grin

LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/02/2021 20:05

I'm glad you're getting somewhere now @Evenstar

I did something similar to your friend at the start of the pandemic. DSs best friend couldn't attend school as it was keyworker only. His mum is now one of my closest friends. For some reason the breakfast and after school club wouldn't refund her the term she had already paid for. She had to close her business and was worried about money. We pay ours using childcare vouchers so I contacted the wraparound care and made a payment for her DS on the understanding they would refund her and tell her it was an admin error (due to not having to book holiday clubs I had a high balance) To this day she's no idea I did it.
It wasn't much (couple hundred) but she was so happy.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/02/2021 20:06

Sorry meant to tag @DWPmisery1972 in that post.

I really hope there aren't people scared to hug because they think it's law they can't.

Looking on MN, something else that surprises me is how little illness has been experienced. I guess that's good but it reminds me of a former friend who saw illness as a weakness, had never been ill in her life with ordinary things. I always remember her being annoyed that a group cancelled drinks with her because her sons had swine flu. She texted saying "so looking forward to drinks, both the boys have got swine flu and I've been stuck with them all day but now hubby can take over".

Then got cross when everyone said "What? I'm not coming then".

MercyBooth · 25/02/2021 21:02

@LivinLaVidaLoki that was a bloody lovely thing to do Flowers Smile
