my friend had a puppy about 6 years ago she named luna but since then it must be the commonest name for a dog

I know one cat Luna and one toddler Luna

She’s nearly 5 now but we’ve met several Luna’s on walks since and know friends who have cat Luna’s.

Lots of dogs called Luna around here. It took over from Lola. Olive seems to be the latest, 3 people 8 know have puppies called Olive.

I foster rescue cats and called one of them Luna. We've had several Lunas just within our small rescue.

I think when she was registered with our vets for spay, vaccs etc, she was actually Luna 6 on our account.

I think it's easily a top 10 name for female dogs or cats.

I was in the park for half an hour yesterday and heard two owners calling dogs called Luna and one toddler Luna-I didn’t realise it was so popular!

Pro dog walker here. We recently booked a fourth Luna, and had a bit of a comedy moment on Thursday when I called Luna 2 and both her and a rather nice golden retriever came charging up!

I thought it was luna but like the moon - luna is both Spanish and Italian for moon with no r at the end.

For my Luna, she was black with massive eyes so it seemed to fit.

Answering your question... Two of the Lunas are white and were called after the moon, another is white with brown markings and owner says she just thought it was a pretty name, and one is black, definitely a bit of a lunatic and was named for that reason.

i am wrong about the spelling though, it is Luna, whatever it is named after!
