Do you want to help me find a garden gnome?

It is my birthday on Monday, and I will get some money and I would like a garden gnome.

Now don't be like that, each to their own, I'd just like one.

We have a fish pond and I'd like something old looking and natural colours, fishing into the pond. When I was a kid, my mum had a brown stone teddy with a red scarf who fished into their pond. It was nice.

I don't want cute. I don't want cartoon. I don't want bright colours.

I don't mind what it is (but actually not that keen on a teddy) quite like the idea of a frog etc. Old gnarled, ancient looking, and preferably with a fishing rod.

To give you an idea, Jeremy Fisher from Beatrix Potter would do it.

Price is max £30.

Today I have learnt that you can get gnomes for all occasions & not just the garden. Esty site

ShirleyPhallus · 19/02/2021 21:57

Hang on, this sounds familiar

Are you looking for something for that “fucking nailed it this time” style?

Yiayoula · 19/02/2021 22:11

Admittedly not actually fishing ( but thinking about it ) .

@ShirleyPhallus 😂. OP don't let anyone know where you got it from or what it cost when you do get one!

JaneJeffer · 19/02/2021 22:18

What are those links @steppemum? First one redirects to a news site and second one says it's unsafe.

This is an odd admission- but I spent my teens and 20s stealing gnomes. I stole the first, then felt guilt but couldn't remember where I took it from. So I put it in another garden. But impulse meant I took one too. I spent a decade taking gnomes from one garden, and leaving a "new" gnome in its place. I did this at least 30 times. Stopped (children and therapy) and a decade later my new neighbor showed me her favourite gnome- it was favoured because she didn't buy it - "he arrived". I'd left him there. She hasn't noticed the stolen gnome and just loved the mystery one. I spent a lot of time feeling guilty. That made me feel better (a bit)

steppemum · 19/02/2021 22:33

Thanks for all these, they are mostly too nice and too cute/happy.
I like the grumpy old man vibe.

I do like weedsandseeds frogs, but can't afford those.

I clicked, they are fine, first one is a photo of a nice gnome. Second one is not.
